How many times do they need to be nagged about the audience wanting to see Kate's back story and see Polin's meet-cute for the show to realise we need to see the origin material for these love stories? 🤪😂🥰

you know how Benedict gets a fever and Sophie nurses him back to health? well let me introduce you to the quintessential Korean cuisine of comfort stews and soups: samgyetang (a stew of chicken stuffed with ginseng, rice and jujube), doenjang (a fermented soybean soup), or dakjuk (not too dissimilar to porridge that is made from slow-cooked chicken, beans, rice and any vegetables). coincidentally, Koreans also eat these stews/soups as hangover cure. so, there are options for these dishes to appear multiple times. now I don't know how Sophie would get the more niche ingredients for her Korean cooking. her dad's an earl. Benedict's rich. Colin traveled the world and brought back those. figure it out writers!
@LadyJeneviaАй бұрын
YESSSSSSSSSSS, you have the exact energy I want for making their love story compelling and with Korean cultural elements infused throughout! And don't waste screen time trying to explain how Sophie just happens to have access to ingredients that might not make sense for her to be able to have in early 1800s England, WE DON'T CARE ABOUT THAT AND THERE AREN'T ENOUGH EPISODES ANYWAY, just let her make some Korean food! 🥰
@alexandrabaughns5779Ай бұрын
That would be so cool, if they included that information (we get to see Sophie's cultural heritage in action). I wished you were one of the writers 😅
@sheelockАй бұрын
Yes, that would be a perfect way to introduce Korean food and culture
@RenHRbookloverАй бұрын
Agreed!, I’ve said the same as you that Sophie’s backstory is and I repeat ESSENTIAL to her character and since she’s a new character to the general audience it’s important they introduce her as such, and not to mention her backstory as you said is part of their love story too. Honestly Sophie deserves it all she’s such a great character and not treating her with care would be such a disservice and I hope the writers do her justice ( I’m literally praying 🙏)
@LadyJeneviaАй бұрын
It's baffling how much was cut from Kathani's back story and there is NO WAY it will go over well with fans if that's done again for Sophie. It's entirely incomprehensible to follow why Sophie holds herself back in her love story with Benedict if you don't know what happened to her in her childhood (and adolescence). BRING ON THE FLASHBACK(S)!
@keienn7259Ай бұрын
Regarding your Korean Food commentary, I actually keep thinking that they need to give Sophie a hobby/talent outside of being a maid. I keep imagining that she is skilled in cooking and this is something they will show throughout. Not just the casual, "Oh this is good" kind of cooking. But something masterchef level that everyone is gagged and something she is passionate about. I need her cooking for Benedict at My Cottage when he's sick. Her cooking for the Bridgertons new food when she works there. This will not only set her apart in Benedict's eyes but also in the Bridgerton family as a whole.
@keienn7259Ай бұрын
On top of this, I keep imagining that Sophie getting caught by Araminta in Bridgerton house is cause of her cooking. Maybe Araminta visits and there is a dish that she tastes and it's very familiar cause it's something Sophie prepared for them back in the day.
@cataryad661Ай бұрын
Aaaah! Yes! And it would work in with the idea that they bond over their artistic pursuits
@keienn7259Ай бұрын
@@cataryad661 yes! Them sharing passions is so good for their connection outside physical attraction. And it's also even in contrast to Benedict's attraction to the LiS which was magical love at first sight. He falls in love with Sophie twice. Once because they are fated. Second because they choose to.
@kaitlynmartin2075Ай бұрын
Honest I always saw Sophie as an actress because of a line from It's in his kiss

It’d be easier for her to get access to cooking than it is to get new books so it’d make sense for her to cook to pass the time and enrich her inner self. ☺️

Thanks for keeping us Bridgerton fans fed. I'm gonna guess that they'll cast a Korean actor for Richard/Dick Gun, since Araminta has his surname.
@LadyJeneviaАй бұрын
They had BETTER! We didn't get to see Kathani's full family so at this point, we're going to need to see Sophie Baek's entire family tree. 😂
@carpevinum8645Ай бұрын
Scene idea. Expose of the hand pinching without making child actors fight: Sophie secretly making/eating korean food in the kitchen when Mrs Gibbons notices the bruises and Sophie doesnt tell but they glance at the mean sister or do something to signal it was her. Later we can find her in the kitchen with korean food often when finding solace with the other mauds and taking quiet moments away.
@LadyJeneviaАй бұрын
Yes, here for that! And honestly, even if it’s just flashes of Sophie’s childhood where you only see a few seconds at a time to fill in gaps? I’d take it. Some things require a proper scene but other memories and details can be conveyed with glimpses. The point is that they need to be a priority in the storytelling because Kathani’s backstory WAS NOT WHATSOEVER. That was unacceptable then and it’s unacceptable now for Sophie’s origins.
@katherinealvarez9216Ай бұрын
4:21 agreed and it has to be said, S03 needed that meet cute. It's the only season without flashbacks and it suffers for it. 6:15 agreed. Kate and her family should have had way more attention; same thing with Sophie. It's her season, she should get the full main character treatment.

Do you think it could work if we don’t “meet” Sophie and her family until after the meet-cute? E.g. We see the day from Benedict and the Bridgeton’s perspective - and then there is a “rewind” and we see the lead-up / departure from Sophie’s perspective. I’m so used to seeing Cinderella stories from her perspective, but there must be ways of doing it where we start from the “prince’s” perspective so that Cinderella is as much of a mystery to the audience as to him… and then we gradually learn the background and the depths of her character

I really hope they do Sophie justice. She is very special to me for a variety of reasons. And I LOVE Seasons 1 & 2 Benedict. If done right, their love story will absolutely destroy me in the best possible way. I 1000% agree with bringing in as much Korean food and culture as possible. I love the idea of Mrs. Gibbons (or the cook maybe, but we already have so many characters) teaching her how to cook, and it maybe tying back to some faint memories of when she was with her mother/grandmother. Food can be a very touchy subject with three-year-olds, so it makes sense to me that it's something she might remember. I think that they could maximize the use of brief visuals in Sophie's Baek-story to hammer home how much she's been abused without traumatizing the child actor. For example, in a flashback that takes place after Araminta and the girls have moved in, the camera could zoom in on Sophie's bruised hands. Bonus points if we see the earl notice her bruised hands and do nothing about it. Later, maybe her hands are covered in burns/scratches/scars/calluses from the type of work she's doing. Araminta could deliver her abusive lines without the child present and SFX makeup could be used to create nail marks or something that the camera could pan to after.

I need little 3 year old Sophie looking up at Penwood Park with her little suitcase, the Earl realizing who she is the moment he looks at her, little 6 year old Sophie roaming around the house being loved by all the staff (amd ignored by her father), little 8 year old Sophie being excited and waiting to meet the new Countess wanting to be loved just to have her little heart crushed by mean Araminta and Rosamund. All of this is NEEDED to tell her full story, i demand it!
@katherinealvarez9216Ай бұрын
20:25 and honestly, so much focus on the villains will hurt the story. Just look at Once Upon a Time. 23:26 but it can be said HERE- Araminta is an abuser- she abused Sophie, Posey and literally any servant in the household - and a white collar criminal.
@LadyJeneviaАй бұрын
If there was 56 episodes in the season I would be fine with more or less everyone being thoroughly explored but this is not Bridgerton’s model! 😂
@heathercontois450129 күн бұрын
They could easily do her dealing with the trauma in the present with voice overs of memory of Araminta speaking to child Sofie. That sh!t stick with those of us who've received it, all our lives.

I'm Colombian but I don't watch telenovelas, I'm assuming its one of those originally for tv ones that gets put on netflix like what they did with Bolivar. Which explains the episode count Edit: yeah the clip you showed had the Caracol logo on it, what I suspected is exactly what happened.
@carpevinum8645Ай бұрын
I think the back story spreadout over a few episodes could work, depending on how the the episode stories are structured.
@carpevinum8645Ай бұрын
I could conceive of a structure where it parrallels and the onscreen ball and reveal happen in the same episode - but that would probably work better if they still had the time gap.
@LadyJeneviaАй бұрын
Maybe I'll change my mind as I work my way through more of the chapters but I don't think the show will do much of a time-jump from the ball to Sophie reuniting with Benedict as herself afterwards. Even if it's just down to the fact that you'd have to change actors for Gregory and Hyacinth if you want a believable gap of having a couple of years fly by. 😂
@annacalstone610Ай бұрын
I actually wonder if we could see Sophie as a maid and get made up and go to the ball (with the hint of the fact she, is more than just a maid) and the ball in episode 1 with her running away as the end. Episode 2 benedict hunts for her and she is uncovered as attending the ball by step mom and kicked out then leaves the ton (just missing benedict who is hunting for her) we then see a montage of benedict searching for her while sophie searches for employment and gets employed at a house, then episode 2 ends with benedict agreeing to go to a party at said house. Ep 3 opens with the flashback to explain sophies backstory, but maybe ending like you said with araminta calling sophie a bastard but rather than cutting to the hurt child cut to adult sophie working as a maid. Don't tell viewers yet the earl died and then araminta made sophie a maid, leave folk wondering how sophie went from ward to maid until maybe another flashback. But will cover that when you get to those bits. Also yes I need them to address not only the impact Edmunds death had on benedict but the fact his brother became head if the family where as he became the heart emotionally caring for everyone, but also the impact it had him becoming Anthony's heir. Seeing their father die so young did he worry about Anthony passing without producing a child and him being left with the responsibility, we saw a glimpse in S1, I want them to delve into that and also how he feels now Anthony has produced an heir and he is no longer needed as the spare, would be a conversation sparked by the inclusion of Kanthonys baby son in the show so ticks off 2 major elements. I need Sophie's back story but for once can we allow both of the main pair to have their backstory explored because right now that hasn't happened
@heathercontois450129 күн бұрын
I swear to goodness, I am going to start commenting "hold my poodle" when a character makes me mad in the inkitt books I read. I love the authors that are able to get anger from me in the way they write their characters. Like Julia Quinn with the way she wrote Sophie's evil step mother.
@leeway3739Ай бұрын
Since there is a two year gap between the masked ball and when they meet again, I like the idea of the ball taking place before any of the stuff that has happened to him on the show. It would put all the flitting around he has done in context of him having broken heart and is trying to find something to fill the pain.

2000 a year is very decent for a widow, in p&p the bennet sisters could only count of 50 pounds a year each, so 250 altogether, while their father lived and then 1000 pounds each as a one time payment. meanwhile mr darcy had his 10 000 a year but he was like a kardashian of his time.

On the Colombian telenovela you watched: netflix has been putting a lot of telenovelas on their catalog and they are structured to have repetition and over explaining a bit bc they were made for tv airing everyday no repeats and so they have to work in a way where ppl will loose episodes here and there and still need to follow the story but yeah they are always big 56 is actually on the lower side of episodes for one. Telenovelas in general are a great genre and have their own tropes could talk about it so long

Colombian telenovelas are their own category: fierce, emotionally statisfying, woman-led. i would recommend you Ana de Nadie. The trumpling of convervative ideas is delicious and it gives so much grace and passion to women that hollywood forgets. (and i think colombian spanish is the superior, sexier accent. as Pasion de Gavilanes)

Bear with me here. This is just an idea that went through my head that could add some development to Sophie’s story. I wonder if they could make Sophie have both baek and beckett as her last names. Her cruel family want her to change her original last name as Beckett, so Sophie struggles to keep her identity starting with that. But as time goes on, she goes back and forth with which last name she chooses to introduce her with. For example, for certain people in the ton, she uses the name Beckett and when she runs away, she meets people who won’t judge her for that and she uses Baek. She finally keeps her true identity when she introduces herself to the Bridgerton family, but still “decides” to take the Bridgerton last name.

A single person in the gentry or lesser aristocracy could live comfortably on 500 a year if they lived modestly and didn't update their wardrobe except for replacements of things which couldn't be mended or altered. By comfortably I mean could eat 3 meals a day, afford their tea/ coffee and sugar, pay to have their clothes laundered, stock their candles, afford their stationery expenses, heat their home in the winter with coal, and live in a one bedroom or studio type domicile which was in clean, good repair and working order.
