Not for nothing, That Scene in S1 was the easiest thing to change in the book plot, and yet they plowed full-steam ahead, so I'm braced to be watching through my fingers at how the show is going to handle 'wealthy white man repeatedly tries to pressure East Asian maid into a sexual relationship'. I have a feeling that Cressida's aunt Joanne (hehe) will be the evil stepmother of Sophie. They did the groundwork already, and she is as terrible as her brother, Lord Cowper. For some reason, Joanne goes to London with her daughters and wards (maybe one of them is to debut) but obviously Cressida and Sophie are to stay at home. Maybe Cressida and Sophie became friends (and Cressida is clearly broken after the evens of the previous season and is actually trying to be a better person as she has no status any more to compensate for her bad behaviour, and she learns better ways, maybe even with Sophie's help). They sneak to the masquerade ball, as they can hide their faces there and attend unrecognised. Cressida takes Sophie under her wing as she is the one familiar with the rules. Unfortunately, they get separated and Sophie is suddenly all alone. This is when she meets Benedict.
@checksanity2 ай бұрын
I see something like this as a true possibility. I don’t think the wish for “no more redemption arks for villainous white women” is going to be fully granted. Particularly because of how they’ve set up show Cressida, though hopefully, she’ll be the last. Redemption arcs that work are typically for characters the audience connects with as much as the writers. I think they have done a decent job with Cressida, but not with Lady Featherington. Season 3 was trying to do too much-as in, have-its-cake-and-eat-it-too. Three characters with similar storylines in the same season was overkill. (The third being “Lady Whistledown,” due to the harshness and naïveté/immaturity that lead to real harm and consequences-she’s undoubtedly the villain to some.) What’s needed, for balance, is C storylines that give good and juicy arcs to the non-white tertiary characters. If the writers * must * continue with the dramatics and world building the Ton.

Love the unhinged references in this video 😍is important for me that in the show Sophie is accepting of Benedict's bisexuality maybe one or more of her fellow servants are gay and she feels comfortable with them so if she sees Benedict kissing or flirting with a man she is comforted by that maybe that's why she feels safe with him when he rescues her because she thinks he's not interested in her that way or maybe he mentions one of his past partners and she takes it in stride, not sure on the way they might introduce this fact about him but I need it to be included in season 4 bi erasure will not be acceptable

I completely agree with all the changes you suggested. It would be really great if Benedict starts drawing the Lady in Silver after the masquerade ball because he cannot get her out of his mind, thus reigniting the artist in him, and as you mentioned, he draws Sophie as well and something happens to the drawing to help him along with his realization. Also, having Benedict show anger towards all those who wrong Sophie would be so amazing to watch, especially given how show Benedict is not at all the kind to get angry. I cannot wait to see Bennie's season and I really hope they tone down all the other irrelevant subplots and focus more on the main couple.

I loved the book when I had Luke Thompson in my head and picturing it playing out on screen, not sure if I'd forgive him so much otherwise 😂 but yes, small tweaks with how he reacts to certain things and it's a epic Cinderella story with enough of its own melodrama (the attempted gang r---, the jail fight, are you kidding me?!) to sustain interest *without* unconnected side plots but alas we shall see. 2 years worth of analysis, let's go 😅

This video is life - I swear that if you don't get the press junkie for S4 we will ride at dawn... With every soldier we have 😂😂 I think (since netflix loves the drama) make Benedict propose to Sophie, but instead of him saying mistress she is the one mentioning it. Yes, he doesn't care for society rules but she does. It would ruin him and his family. I am also keeping my expectations low so I don't get my heart broken 😂
@checksanity2 ай бұрын
That doesn’t make sense as something that would ruin the family. Mistresses were “normal” and didn’t really blowback onto the men-that’s not how the patriarchy works. Anthony was going to do the same with the opera singer back in season one. There was no concern on his end that it would affect his family and he’s the head of it.

Love your Bridgerton videos as always! What are your thoughts on S4 episode/timeline structures? Because if the show sticks to the book timeline (and the ball takes place 2 years before the main chunk of Benedict/Sophie's story), then will that night mainly be dripfed to us via flashbacks or will it be the whole of Episode 1 and everything else takes place 2 years afterwards? Also, what will it mean for the timeline of Fran and Eloise's own stories? Book Fran's marriage on lasts 2 years, will that timespan be changed (and will we miss out on her and John's marriage)? And when will Eloise meet her own endgame, and how will any reworking of the timeline affect her headspace?

TO BE FAIR, if the vibes are immaculate and the chemistry is pulling me in, I might not overly nitpick that detail. I'm playing up a lot of my 'opinions' for the sake of the video (hopefully) being more fun to watch but ultimately my number one request for season 4 is for there to be a lot of fluffy romantic interactions between Sophie and Benedict because I didn't get enough of that for Polin when it was their turn to be the main couple. 😭
@annec81272 ай бұрын
I agree. Super hot. Also, I want to believe that Sophie is way too smart to be caught alone in a gentleman's bedroom, even one she likes (maybe particularly one she likes), who is the brother of her employer. Her moral fiber is one of my favorite things about her.

The moment we’ve been waiting for 🙌🏽 AOFAG is MY favorite Bridgerton book, and Sophie is so precious it hurts. I’m glad you enjoyed it. I have such fun with this book everytime I read it that it’s hard for me to understand why some people have problems. The masquerade is PERFECTION, but the scene I’m most excited for is the prison. But honestly this story has so much drama they can take directly from the source material that it could end up being the most faithful adaptation so far. On the other hand, I fear shondaland giving important roles in Benophie’s story to Polin (their favorite couple). I’m dreading the thought of Sophie working in the Featherington house instead of the Bridgerton. Let’s see how it goes (in 2 years 💀)
@LadyJenevia2 ай бұрын
All they really need to do is calm down book Benedict’s temper (the same way they already have for Anthony and Colin) and make his incidents of blackmail/coercion OFFERS (like the title states) and I’d imagine I’d be thrilled with the result. Nonetheless it’s 2 years to go from here on out! 😅
@chikzdigmohawkz2 ай бұрын
Setting aside the question of whether the writers would do it *well*, I actually think Sophie working for Penelope & Colin would solve a lot of my issues with the Sophie/Benedict dynamic in the book. 🤔 One of my major icks is the way that Benedict getting Sophie a job in his mother's house has a low-key expectation of access (to continue propositioning her). I can't remember if book!Benedict has bachelor's lodgings, but regardless, there's a bit more distance there wrt visiting a sibling vs visiting a parent. And with them being right across the square, they could have Benedict 'escaping' from Violet & the younger sibs, Hyacinth visiting often (she was so excited to gain Penelope as a sister), or Colin being part of cute Bridgerton sibling banter again, and conversely, she could accompany Penelope to Bridgerton house, or be sent with messages, or other errands. It also gives the writers a valid reason not to have Kate & Anthony in more scenes instead of...::gestures vaguely at S3's Kanthony writing choices::. I only say this because by all accounts, Portia, Prudence, and Phillipa aren't going to be continuing on the show. If that plan changes, I very much hope they never even breathe the same air as Sophie. I do remember Jess Brownell mentioning in interviews that the Whistledown plot hasn't completely ended b/c now Penelope has to deal with the consequences of going public (please, God, just let this character *rest*), so it would *also* allow that plot to be more of a background/overheard conversations kind of thing, instead of what they did in S3 with all the abrupt cutting between disconnected storylines. (I mean, ideally they will have dropped that subplot entirely, but in the event that they haven't, it's at least one idea as to how it could pull less focus.)

Sophie is definitely the best part of the story. I think Violet has her moment as well. I agree the meet cute is great, however, Book Benedict is a mess compared to show Benedict. Also, just want to add it's more than the black mail that's the issue. He literally saves her from SA and then has little decorum about his own advances. It would be nice to see him be a bit tender with her in the show. While I agree his behavior isn't the same as that dip shit and his friends, it is still red flag behavior. He also belittles and calls her stupid which she slugs him and rightfully so (love the fire in Sophie)but he on a few occasions tries to tell her what is best for as if she isnt her own person. That's my issue with book Benedict...it's the "you don't know what best for you; I do" behavior he has along with the im going to force you into a position you dont want because well I know whats best and I selfishly want you as my mistress.( my apologies for the rant) The only reason I ever even read the book was because I loved show Benedict so much and not that I completely dislike book Benedict but my boy got some red flags.

To reiterate a point I made in my video, I read this book not long after being submerged in "It Ends With Us" for videos I made for my channel. That played a MASSIVE part in why it was easy for me to read the bad parts of book-Benedict and go "That wasn't as bad as I was mentally preparing myself for" or "Well that's very easy to change when adapting this for television." 😂 ALSO, me being excited about Yerin Ha being cast as Sophie made me focus more on all of the things I liked about Sophie as a character and her journey that it was natural for me to focus more on letting people know that my first impressions largely gravitated towards the parts I liked the most (which was Sophie, the meet-cute, and the jail scene). I'm fully prepared to nitpick the parts that need to be changed once I start going through the book in more detail. We simply haven't gotten to that part of my coverage yet (we have TWO YEARS to get to everything, but it WILL come). 😊🫰🏻

I believe that Cressida's mom wont be redim just like in the books, but Cressida will, the same way that one of the stepsisters of Sophie do I the book, since one of the main points that make Sophie connect with her is by realizing how poorly she is treated by her mom, since the father had died in the books so he doesn't take a part in the story. I think that they will reconnect in the country side where Cressida has been send to where I hope she will have an epiphany and repent of her evil ways and either be good to Sophie or even realize they are sisters, and on Sophie's point will be a 'your life isn't as good as I thought it was, just because you are part of high society doesn't mean you are happy or treated well'.

So in the book, he DOES realise in the end that he's very fortunate to have such a loving family, and that not everyone has that. It's something he figures out from meeting and falling in love with Sophie, and learning (and witnessing firsthand) the horrific treatment she receives from people who are supposed to be her loving family. In the show, he's already been established as having a different characterisation from his book counterpart (as evidenced by the "people who actually work for a living" line from season one, dating Madame DLC and Tess, being super welcoming to the Mondriches despite them being new money, and before that, being highly complimentary to Will and outright telling him he's jealous of how he's been able to build something for himself with his club). They'll presumably want to start Benedict in season 4 as needing to learn, develop, grow, transform, etc. within himself by falling in love with Sophie, and I think mixing the best parts of the book and seasons 1-2 (while throwing away the bad parts of him from the book) have great potential to give us a wonderful result. Regardless, we have TWO YEARS to wait and see what they do with him. 😂

@@LadyJenevia since he's already been presented in the show as someone who is more self-aware of status, maybe the things he will need to change are direction, discipline, and motivation?
