I'd like to add a discrepancy as I keep mentioning Colt and an SR-15 around 12:00, for all the times I mention Colt and improvements I meant Knights Armament, not Colt. Sorry for the confusion.

That KAC upper + LMT lower combo definitely costs way more than $2,200 these days. KAC uppers by themselves are now over $2k if you're lucky enough to even find them in stock.

I have done it! My first build was back in 2009. Had it for a very long time until I sold it to a friend in 2015. My good friend still has it today. He actually used my first AR15 build to compete in The Tactical Games in 2022 and 2023.

This is a great video but under no circumstances should KAC be considered by someone looking for a starter gun. As a matter of fact I personally wont recommend KAC, H&K, or LMT for too many reasons to list. Geissele, and Sons of Liberty are fantastic rifles that are built to be as tough as it gets while also being EXTREMELY accurate. Plus they have excellent warranties while also being universal in design with very few proprietary parts. BCM is good too, but I agree with David, PSA or Aero is the way to go for a starter rifle

KAC should only be considered with the full knowledge that they are the American H und K. Civilians are only there for offloading factory seconds or contract overruns. Their customer service and warranty were very dismissive of civilians also. Their MOA accuracy guarantee is a cruel joke. 1 MOA is really 2, 1.5 is 3, etc.

Curious as to why you would never recomend kac, hk, or lmt other than money Ive got the Hk mr556 and have taken many classes with it, thousands on thousands of rounds in adverse conditions, and its been the single most reliable rifle ive used yet, including over my BCM and FN. Its also wickedly accurate, but its been my experience that any quality ar should be accurate. Now I dont mean recomend as a beginner gun, but by your coment it sounds like you would never recomend premium makers at all. How about Noveske or Q?

The best bang for your buck is a DD, or BCM upper on a palmetto lower. Palmetto lowers are fine, build them out with a Wilson parts kit and a Aero buffer kit for around 100 bucks. If your on a budget go with a palmetto upper with a FN CHF barrel. Just put a good bolt carrier in, it's the part that does all the work. You can get by with a lot of cheap parts, but a good bolt carrier is critical.

I agree. Especially since PSA makes a stealth lower that doesn’t have a big logo on it. Not everyone likes a massive gaudy logo lol

Colt rifles are still fantastic, and the basic cr920's run for under 1k al the time. That said, I think the best value is BCM upper, Aero, PSA, Anderson lower. For an extremely tight budget, Bkings firearms 16 inch upper, (AERO/BA parts) proper mil-spec Microbest/AO percision bolt carrier group in phosphate or chrome, mil-spec charging handle, and any lower listed above you can find the best deal on.

I agree with starting with a complete rifle when training/shooting. I personally started on an Unbranded Ar 16” rifle with 3k rounds on it and have learned a ton and have more invested in my optics than the entire rifle. The only thing I don’t agree with is that if you want to build a rifle after already shooting and training, and already having a manufactured rifle, then by all means. Just because you don’t know how to build a rifle doesn’t mean you shouldn’t touch it. You have to learn one way or another. I definitely wouldn’t start with building as there are more important things (training).

BCM, DD, SOL, and Geissele are my S tier for my own reasons. I can afford everything mentioned. To me, The diminishing return is too small for what you get for what other people call "S" tier rifles as BCM and DD etc. are just as reliable and reasonably accurate as a KAC. Everything beyond that is just bells and whistles, "nice to have but not actually needed." I am not a collector, I am a person who buys quality self defense tools. I don't buy bragging rights or validation or beauty queens for the oohs and aahs. I buy tools that get used, trained with hard, and banged up that I know I can depend my life on to protect me and my family. This is not a slight on this video at all nor on anyone who wants any of the more expensive rifles. Just my perspective as people have different reasons for how/why they rank anything.

PSA is awesome. Not great for those who look beyond "gun is gun. Gun work." Several models and re-barrels from being shot out, all of mine are still running strong. 1x dagger, 1x dagger full size, and 5x AR. PSA's guns will outshoot most people in accuracy. Also, my airsoft builds costing 3x real builds is forever a meme to me. To the newbies: remember to leave budget for ammo. Also remember that ammo will cost WAY more than the gun, KAC or not.
@jwalesoutlaw32945 ай бұрын
PSA is good for price but QA/QC, materials and barrel quality are a far cry from a BCM. I've heard this over and over and seen relatively new shooters with PSA disappointed with fit and finish, groups, and longer term reliability
