ASICS Magic Speed 4 - Good Marathon Racer?

the fact it comes in a wide option makes it a great choice for people who can't wear many race day shoes due to how narrow some are these days.

Great timing. I'm deciding right now between ms4 and edge+. I have a couple more marathon pace runs. Feels like edge+ is pounding my legs. I ran a 10k and 1/2 in edge+, very fast, but for the full marathon we'll see.

They almost got it right with this shoe. Just as you mentioned had they tweaked the midsole with more race foam.

The Magic Speed 3 gave me more pop than the Magic Speed 4. However, the extra stack on the Magic Speed 4 saves my legs for those longer distances with some speed intervals.

Yeah seems best utilized as a long run with tempo paces style shoe

I would love to see a roundup with more of these "almost race" fast plated trainers. I feel like they would complement a true easy day shoe very well. The true all-round seem to be less speed focused than what I want.

Absolutely, after about 30 miles they loosened up but still in comparison to the market these are very stiff

This would be a good hyrox shoe. I think if they were to make an update to suit that style more, i think they need to update the upper. I ended up going with the Hoka Mach X2 over these to pair with the Nimbus 26 for my upcoming two shoe Spring Half training rotation. Side Note: The whole time I'm watching this video, I'm thinking about the UA Velociti Elite v2's in the background on the shelf.

Haven’t gotten any miles in the elite v2 just yet but that’s coming! I agree though, a better upper and maaaaaaybe a little less stack and this would be great for Hyrox

Is the evoride speed pretty much a budget version of the magic speed line? I picked up a pair of evorides for 60$ and took them through a few intervals and tempo sessions and loved the firmness of them.

Not really a budget but more of just an uptempo trainer made for intervals and track work!

My fav plated trainers of 2024 (regardless of release date) - Adidas pro 3 - also used for races - saucony pro 3 Myself i don't see the reason not to train in race day shoes, especially as supertrainers are, mostly, worst versions of super shoes - lower price would be only reason - but in many cases the price is not that much different...

Really that’s what I was doing before I got into shoe reviews. I would use my “old” race shoes for speed workouts and then my new pair id save for race day. The arguments for supertrainers though would be 1. Better durability 2. Potentially less aggressive/harsh on feet 3. Can be a lot cheaper depending on brand (unless you buy old models) Honestly there are a lot of people who would likely just be more comfortable racing in super trainers in my mind too

Maybe due to my weight, when I run or walk fast, the foam will compress. It is not stable and kind of soft to me when running, but still stiff when normal walking.

How is this shoe used vs the Superblast?

Same general use case except this one is supposed to be better for shorter intervals while the superblast is probably better for longer mileage

The Asics Magic Speed 5 will probably be really good with a lot of Asics premium middlesole. This Magic Speed 4 was a bit cheap shoes. Every other brand put a lot of their premium middlesole on their plated trainers and still cost the same as the MS4.

The meta speed were too unstable for me. Is this also unstable or is it more than the meta speed?

This is much more stable than the metaspeed which I agree was unstable!

@@raddadbodtv Thanks so much for your review and quick feedback. As a 5+ hour marathoner and recently created my own yotube channel my ears always perk up when i read or see reviews about shoes that might work well for my marathon. That is one area i have struggled with is finding the right mix of weight, comfort for more than 5 hours on my feet.

@@davidg9120 of course! One thing to consider with this one is it’s quite stiff. Personally if I was going to be on feet for 5 hours I may lean towards the superblast
