To budget, I use my debit card for bills ONLY! Includes groceries/gas. I give myself a cash allowance for the week that I can use on eating out, drinks, shopping etc. Whatever money I don't spend, I put in a jar. Then I take out more cash for the next week. This way I can visualize my money!

While I totally understand the concerns from other commenters that this is super first-world-problems-like, I don't think that people who have money should be shamed when they spend it. The two women were upfront with what they recognize as "bad spending habits," so this video is their effort to change it for a week. So Chantelle has the money to spend on eating out and you don't? So? The title of this video is "We Gave Up Our Bad Spending Habits," not "Tips on How To Save When You're Broke AF."

Maybe I didn't say it right. What I wanted to say was a month's salary as a whole, idk. Thing is in my country the avarage salary would be somewhere between 281$-328. That's how much you'd make a month. So 1120$ would be 4 salaries of 281$ (4 months) and around 3 salaries of 328$ (3 months). Hope that cleared it up a little bit. But yea. Point is that a lot of god Damn money!!

@ShelbyRenaeH7 жыл бұрын
I'm disabled. I get $1300 a month. $967 of that goes to rent. $100 goes to health insurance. That leaves me with $233 a month. I don't drive. I have to pay for medication, doctor appointments, groceries... I do the minimum and I still end up at the end of the month with no money in my account. When you're genuinely poor... that's not so easy. It's literally impossible for me to get money into a savings account.

$100,000 is nothing? We live off my husband's single income and he's in the army, they don't pay half that. We don't eat rice and beans and we bought a new car (brand new first owners) in July 2015. Sounds like some just don't realize how much they're actually making.
@undetestable17 жыл бұрын
100K a year comes out to about $48 an hour. Keep in mind that minimum wage is about $7 an hour (varies depending on state but that average). 100K is a very comfortable living and places a person squarely in the American middle class. You could raise a family on that income. If you consider that a pittance then you are far wealthier than your believe yourself to be and could probably benefit from some budgeting advice.

Among all the luxury handbags and beauty hauls on youtube, this is very refreshing. I grew up with very little money and really no budget for non-necessities, so despite having money now and treating myself to quality purchases, I still hardly spend money on everyday things. My family barely eats out but we are not stingy on home cooked food and groceries. It's a lifestyle that should not be limited to people who can't afford to spend money. It's a very asian mindset to save money on the small stuff, in order to invest in the large stuff in life.

REAL ADVICE FROM A REAL BROKE PERSON: if you feel bored or like you aren't buying new things to occupy you, go to the dollar store. I'm not talking about some bougie Dollar General or Family Dollar, I'm talking the 99¢ store. Sometimes I'll pick up knockoff biore strips, or a new nail polish, or a big sheet of poster board, or WHATEVER. it gives you something to keep you busy when you get home and you won't spend more than $5.

I don't see why people are so surprised at how much they spend per day. They're professionals on a salary income with a successful company. I get that most of us aren't where they are financially, but it would be good to set your expectations before watching the video.
@imeldawilm6777 жыл бұрын
Probably because a lot of people grew up with different standards. My parents made decent money, but they werent wasting it away by shopping constantly and eating out all the time, therefore neither am i. Seeing people waste a lot of money even though they don't need it to life feels weird. I personally hate wasting in most ways, so this kinda irked me. ALso the "fun challenge" aspect, when its day to day life for many people.
@seafarer_7 жыл бұрын

@maimayme7 жыл бұрын
Maybe it's the culture over there in LA when you're young and have no kids. I'm probably around their age but our city is pretty small and boring in comparison so there isn't the mentality to go out every night to eat. Spending seems like the in thing with all the beauty and clothing hauls on youtube at the moment. Also with instagram lifestyles.

@simransimran93397 жыл бұрын
I don't know if you're clothes are actually 8 years old or you're exaggerating (buzzfeed audience being mostly preteen or early teens) but I actually have clothes I bought in 2010. And I buy clothes twice a year too. Winter shopping and summer shopping. Unless I need to get something in an emergency.
@ZomberStomper7 жыл бұрын
I'm too old to watch buzzfeed video i guess, but I'm just strangely addicted to them. I'm a 20 year old woman. :) Some of my clothes is really 8 years old. But it's pieces I only wear at home, or as sleeping attire. Reason why is, that I work a lot and many hours a day. I take a bus to and from work. I spend maybe 11 hours a day wearing a uniform (Bus takes an hour) so once I get home I jumb right into comfy clothes, that I don't wear in public. I don't like to throw things out, so a lot of my older clothes has holes in it, or the elastic is just gone at this point. But again, I only wear it at home. The once or twice shopping is when I seriously need new shoes and pants, cost what it must, almost. Everything else is thrift shop stuff.
@simransimran93397 жыл бұрын
I like Elephants My life isn't what hard (knock on wood!). I am a 26 year old woman who is not addicted to buxzfeed but is addicted to procrastination. I guess I've just been a student too long, am doing my Master's now, that I just don't care about clothes. As long as they don't have holes in them, I wear them, mostly because my mom throws away the ones that have holes. But yeah most of my old stuff has become night wear. The once or twice shopping is because I genuinely hate clothes shopping. Shoes I buy when they break. You have an issue with time and so on, on my part it's pure laziness and I'd rather spend money on books and food...oh and glasses.
@ZomberStomper7 жыл бұрын
Well books are great and food is more important than clothes, so that's a good reason. I'm going back to school soon, as I've come down with stress due to the many hours of work and other personal stuff. So I'm actually looking forward to it. Nothing lazy about not wanting to shop for clothes, some people just really don't like it, and that's completely undertstandable. I'm super lazy as soon as I get home, I spend my time playing video games and watch stuff on youtube.

I can definitely understand budget bootcamp. I had to really crack down on my spending habits, and my biggest habit was coffee two to three times a DAY from Big Foot Java ( I don't care for Starbucks ). Yes, they are cheaper then Starbucks, however, even just six dollars a day (24oz drink), three times a day, means that's one week's worth of gas! Once I started on my new car payments, I completely understood that all the little extra spending habits had to be curbed, pronto. This video was a valuable lesson! Thank you ladies - new subscriber ~ :D
