One of our more requested questions we see pop up on social media is in regards to PED use in the Unit, or PED use in the military in general. So, Randy gave his honest perspective, opinion and experience around the subject matter.

As a young soldier in the early 90s I remember watching the really big guys and thinking they were just natural athletes. Later I realized, the natural ones are husky... the dirty ones are swole.

I think the question should have been, how many guys used PEDs to get through selection? Using PEDs onces you’re already in isn’t as significant.

I used to work in an armed context and I was actually surprised by the amount of guys who actually used it or still was on a cycle. It's funny because I 'm fairly fit myself (6'@220lbs) but I was always on the boat of not using PED due to hearing a lot of negative stuff. I wouldn't be surprised if tier 1 guys would use it since the stakes are much higher.

I would be surprised if the current generation isn't using specific compounds to increase VO2-max instead, which would have significantly greater utility in my eyes

PED use is big in the units but there's also a mix of guys using it for the looks and other to perform above the average.

I would think it would benefit a lot of operators if done in safe dosages. It would be nice if the doctors prescribed this and monitored the individuals blood work. There is a difference between optimizing your health and performing at your best (which at that level you need to do), and running cycles.

I think its stupid to do PEDs during selection and basically prior to being put in a unit, everything after that? Honestly should be on the table with just how raw many SOF personnel are run day in and day out
