I've used "selca" as an English person for like 7 years and I had no idea where it came from lol. I started using it cause of my friends. It bothers me when people say "selfie" nowadays because theres been a word for it for soooo much longerrrr.

A lot of slang are simply just syllables taken from each word in a phrase. Like 버카충, '버'스 '카'드 '충'전, which takes the first syllable from each word. But not always the first syllable, like 득템 which takes the last syllables of the phrase 아이'템' 획'득'. Some teens will make up abbreviations on the fly while talking to each other, following a protocol only teens can decipher, the repetitively used one later becoming slang. Most of the slang you guys are taking about were spawned in this manner.
