I studied child development and worked in s child development center for over 5 years. I just had my first child 1/30/18 and I must say that my experience with children has made me super relaxed about parenting. There is always some newness but I had already experienced lots of poop, pee, vomit, blood, tantrums, potty training, etc. so I’ve approached parenting as I did as a teacher. Always be calm, patient and loving. I practice RIE and love an emergent curriculum that implements Reggio philosophy. I don’t believe in battery operated toys and as for discipline, just make sure to always communicate the “why”. Ask a lot of open-ended questions and allow your child to get dirty, make mistakes, fall down and get hurt. Thx for the great videos! Sounds like you’re doing a great job!

As someone who is studying to be a primary years grade teacher, I would advise you guys to continue to engage aria with questions when she does engross herself in play. This will help her develop necessary language skills from not just playing, but also having you engage with you and ask her questions here and there and prepare her for school when she does start ~ But looks like Aria is a really great child :)

So as far as advice goes for easing the baby boy into the Aria's world, and this may sound silly to some but gifts. I've had a lot of mommy friends try this and it has worked from what I can tell. Get aria a gift from "baby" so it shows that she is still loved and then let her pick something out for the baby. Now, she may not be old enough but it was the first thing I thought of.

When my second was born, we had a 'big sister gift' at the hospital. Also, we had a basket of special toys for her to play with beside me while I nursed baby brother. It included her in our bonding time too.

Hi Jen and Ben! First child and second child tip: I am the oldest of four children in my house, and I personally feel like an older child should be treated as independently as before. Sometimes it makes parents' job easier by praising the first child when they take care of the younger child, but I think the first child is still just a baby and in the long run, be yourself instead of someone's caretaker gives much more confidence in oneself because the later one can become very dependent on other's approval or response. Be a good friend to the younger one should be enough. Thanks for sharing your parenting tips! I will rewatch them when I decide to have children XD.

I always tear up watching your ask Jen & Ben videos. I don't know why, but i just feel really touched at how genuine, loving, and sincere you guys are with each other and Aria (and to us)! Thanks for the parenting advice! =) Started off by watching your makeup tutorials for years, and then your pregnancy vlogs, and now your parenting tips! Amazing to see your family grow

The best advice I have for adding a second child to a family is to let your first born help as much as they reasonably can without getting in the way. My oldest was 3 when my second was born and he loved to help with getting a diaper or finding the binkie or holding the shampoo bottle during baths. Can't wait to see the little guy join your family!! ❤

What got my son get use to having a baby sister was getting him involved as much as possible with the new little one before and after they are there with you like helping pick out stuff you buy the baby or helping putting a nursery together and then when the baby gets there have her help with him she won't feel so left out and she will create a bond with her brother

I love your ask jen and ben series!!! I think they are very realistic and honest and an excellent way to enhance communication between subscribers and you and feel close. I have a question though...you say you research a lot on parenting. Are you talking about research papers? Books? Magazines? How do you sieve out what you think is not helpful vs helpful? I know you are on your babymoon. I hope you are having an amazing one!!!!

On the topic of how to introduce baby #2 into the family: get Aria to help and praise her for doing so... I don't have kids but I'm a big sister and I've seen the same scenario over and over with family members... You're gonna be busy with your baby boy so just make Aria part of the plan, let her help you with bathing, feeding, changing, etc... Just make sure she knows that you love her help... 😘

Jen~ Please do a sleep routine/training video in depth!! Like, how were you able to wean dream feeding? I would love to hear about sleep schedule too! I'm struggling with my 6 month old's sleep/nap T.T
@keranwing6 жыл бұрын
If you're already at the point where you only feed your baby once per night, you'll notice that after a while they don't feed for as long before popping off on their own. At that point you can just try not going in for the dream feed and see if they sleep through. It's different for every baby, obviously, but we did baby-led weaning this way and it went pretty smoothly. Good luck!

Loved this one (love all of these honestly) your parenting style isalot like my own with my two girls although mine are now much older. I think you both have a good outlook on what you think is important and what needs to be let go this is what helped weather many storms as my kids got older (Aria 5yr and Sae 9yr) it’s going to fun seeing the dynamic change again with you guys and maybe in a year what you have to add or change. Can’t wait to see the next Jen and Ben!

My daughter is 20months old, my son is 3 1/2 months old. My daughter seemed to understand as much as she could that a baby was on his way. Having her own baby helped a bit. She had a bad week a few days after he came home. She was teething and upset, and I was breastfeeding and couldn't console. It usually goes pretty great. :) As far as who do I go to first if their both crying, I go to her first.

Guys if you would want professional advise on how to stimulate her speech and language development, a speech and language therapist will help you a lot. I highly recommend it, as an slpstudent:) She is growing up being bilingual so she already get more words ro learn, more sounds to say so a bit of help from a therapist would work. A small tip I usually give parents is to Repeat what aria says and extending it by one word like: juice ->orange juice To get her using two-wordsentences

I think it all depends on your baby and how you handle it. Some just cries all night and doesn’t sleep through (thank god mine didn’t do that). It’s funny coz my daughter was moved into her own room at 3months and it was the best time eva so I know how you feel Jen. When she move out that’s when I stopped the routine 3 hour feed and started demand feeding. Which lucky she lasted 12 hours (7pm - 7am). I had a friend that wasn’t that lucky. Both her kids had to be held all night. She didn’t get much sleep. Good luck on the 2nd baby. I’m still thinking should I or not but I’m getting too old to deal with nappies I think. By the time I have one I’ll be 39yrs old. I started late.

I'm not a mom but an aunt of 2 as in my sister has 2 kids a boy and girl so tell aria to say good morning to 2nd baby in morning,to say hello,to kiss baby on cheek , thats what my niece does w/ her brother and they are both happy . you have to watch out tho even if oreo is the 1st she will feed food to once baby 2 is born she might try to feed him lol eventually bc my niece tried to feed some chips once to her brother and give him a toy baby bottle lol . and they have two dogs as well so she does feed them but gets in trouble tho when shes suppose to eat it or if she doesnt want it to leave on the plate. So ive seen that work and have her help with everything . my niece will follow my sister when she changes her brother so my niece loves helping

Parent goals. I wish more people had parents like you two, not to put pressure on you two or anything haha. I don't want to sound ungrateful to my parents but I wish I had parents similar to you two. I mean, my mum has already said that she'll beat my kids because they need discipline which is a big reason why I'm not going to have any. I wish more people understood the negative effects of spanking. Just because you turned out alright from being spanked, doesn't mean everyone else will handle it the same way. My brother seems to have no negative effects from it but I'm a different story.

So interesting to hear that you «choose» not to spank, in norway its illegal to spank your kid, and if repeated they can take your kids away from you. I have two girls, I will never ever physically lay a hand on my kids to dicipline them. If they dont listen or disobey its usually something we as parents do wrong.

I really wish I’d been better at getting my son to play alone when he was little. Now, at almost 5, he still doesn’t play well alone. My almost 2 year old daughter plays independently so much better, bc I couldn’t devote as much uninterrupted attention.
