This is actually very sad, I felt her pain when she said that she and her boyfriend have been dating for 8 years, and yet when Steve asked whether her boyfriend is in love with her, she had no answer. The problem is we women feel lonely when we are single, and then we jump into a relationship and think it's the best thing ever when it's still early days and the other person is still "putting their best foot forward." As time goes on, the other person reveals who they really are, and by then we've invested so much time, energy, and emotion into the relationship, that it seems impossible or too painful to walk away.

They probably haven't been dating all that long because she couldn't answer the question about them being in love. They have probably been dating only a very short time....so she doesn't know if they are in love yet. Steve said, "So you're just dating, but you're not in love?" She said, "Umm..." and Steve interrupted before she could finish her sentence. If they had been dating for 8 years, she would have answered the question yes (about being in love).
