+metfan4l idk If they had a go to see who is better and if Gene beat Haake, I don't think it would make Tomas any less of a drummer. Gene is a beast, and I've heard him play some really great stuff. But there is just so many killer drummers out there that its really hard to choose. There are a lot of guys that are criminally underrated, like Flo Mournier. Some say he is sloppy but I'm telling you, any band that has him as a drummer, wouldn't be complaining. He doesn't sound sloppy to me. Other guys that are criminally underrated Lex Kincaid he played on a record with Soulfly. And after listening to him, I think he can play just about anything, had he been out there more, he definitely would have made a name for himself as a monster. Chris Kontos the best Machine Head drummer, imo. Just a whole bunch of really good drummers out there no one talks about. Jon Dette who always seems to step up for Slayer when they needed a drummer, but he never found a permanent seat in that band, also really good.

The metal drummer I've been most obsessed with recently is Jaime Saint Merat from Ulcerate. Heavy, fast, and complex as shit, but with touch, sensitivity, details, and dynamics that's extremely rare in metal drumming, especially in extreme metal. In a way he's like a return to the days when Bill Ward was so influenced by jazz.

joey jordison, tastiest grooves, fastest double kicks that never get old no matter how many times you hear it, one of the nicest metal musicians out there , never played bad live, could play when he was so sick he had to be carried on stage, could play in weird possitions and upside down, no matter what he never sounded bad behind the kit, that my friends is a quality musician right there.

I put him in that "hes in my favorite band, so he HAS to be the best drummer on earth" category. Ala John Bonham. I also think Matt is the 2nd best drummer AAL ever had , lol. For technicality I like Marco Minnemann. Not only does he play in the technical death metal band Necrophagist, he also has a jazz fusion band called the aristocrats. He has also played with a wide variety of bands from Joe Satriani to Kreator. For huge body of work, Gene Hoglin. And for sheer drum pounding,, complete off the chart insanity, Dave Lombardo. The best drummer I've ever seen live. He's a fucking machine.

Daniel Ekeroth argues that the blast beat was first performed by the Swedish group Asocial on their 1982 demo.” “AllMusic contributor Thom Jurek credits jazz drummer Tony Williams as the "true inventor of the blastbeat" in 1979.” loudwire.com/charlie-benante-first-recorded-blast-beat-s-o-d/ Charlie also argues that he invented Blast Beat too The drummer, who is also known for his work in Anthrax, explained, "There's this style of beat called 'blast beat,' and I will say that the first time ever that type of beat was recorded and played on a record was on this S.O.D. record that we did in 1985. And I'm tired of people not crediting that that was the first time."

Everyone says Gene Hoglan, but without Dave Lombardo, Gene would never have been the drummer he is today. Saw an interview with him the first time he saw a Slayer gig.
