I had to smile when you were watching video with Apple. Our first Cavalier, Charlie McFarlie, used to run up to our TV and bark at any dogs or horses that appeared on the screen. We had to wait until he was asleep in order to watch Animal Planet. :)

Hi there Charlie….thank you for answering my question about how your other dogs are dealing with Tags passing….I did especially ask about Boo knowing she was Tag’s littermate…they seem to spend a lot of side by side time together…I know she had to dearly miss her. Just prior to us getting Charlotte our Cav (will be a year we have had her end of April…she just had her 1st Birthday 2-16…sure went fast!) my 8 year old female Coton de Tulear passed suddenly…she was acting listless, noticed a fever …got her to doc and she had internal bleeding …complicated..not sure I understand but was told treatment needed 24/7 care in hospital would amount to 15-20 thousand dollars with no guarantee…the doctor told me she didn’t think she would make it through the night… after much consultation and discussion we made the very difficult decision to let her go. We had her brother/littermate at home…no chance for goodbye and he was very depressed. I was depressed I have never lost a dog at such a young age…I cried for me and him because I could see he was so sad….that’s what made me think of Boo…she so sweet and I was sad for her. Tag was such a sweetheart…again I saw her as so regal…I loved watching her on your videos…she moved so gracefully….she was so feminine …she made me want a blenhiem💕 Throughout my life seems I would get a dog and within two years we would get them a friend same breed of dog afghan hounds, dachshunds, Coton de Tulears! We also have horses! I’m 62 For now extremely happy with Charlotte, our male Coton is hubby’s buddy….at this point not thinking about another…although very easy to want more in the future…she is my dream dog💕 I’m home all day now and she is my buddy. Oh and we got Charlotte insured immediately! Hated having to make that decision for such a young dog…may not be practical or I should say affordable with multiple dogs…thank you again for sharing your wisdom and love of this lovely breed, I look forward to each and every video😊🫶🏻Kimberly so sorry for length of comment🤦‍♀️

I also wanted to add to someones question about car travel - mine used to get anxious and then throw up ( since past that) but still drools though for a very short amount of time. Per alot of trial and error - i had to put him in the front with a car harness ( not my first choice , given i believe in crates in cars ) but it has helped tremendously ! Id love suggestions on how to graduate him to at least the back seat - thanks again! Also when u answered our question , I realized i had spelled my youtube nick name wrong , so thank you!

We had a cavalier who when his best friend passed away he mourned for about 6 months. He went into our walk in robe and only came out for toilets and food then went straight back in. It was so sad to watch but he had to work through it.

We found that they deal with it best when they can see and sniff the deceased dog's body. But Tag died at the vet's office, so she didn't have the chance to do that.

I've been wondering about Boo with the loss of her sister. Every adult set of littermates I've owned have mourned the loss in some way. Apple loves the camera. Would she be more entertained if we asked her questions or questions about her?

My female tri admires Apple - she will never be a show dog because she has a few chestnut freckles. We're wondering if Apple has any misplaced chestnut and why the standard is so specific about chestnut (eyebrows, cheeks, ears, and base of tail) yet black can be anywhere on a tri.

Los buenos criadores lo limitarán a un máximo de 6 camadas en la vida de un perro. Soy un poco más conservador: normalmente no cruzo ningún perro más de 2 o 3 veces.

Not sure how to submit a question: but here is my question. In the process of researching to find a puppy. I am trying to find the look of your dogs with the cute head and nose (domed?) but I seem to keep seeing dogs with a longer nose and more of a spaniel look head. One way I have found is looking for a show dog however I am not interested in showing just a companion. Any suggestions on how to narrow the search? Love watching your videos and the life of the dogs.

You will generally find the nicest heads on Cavaliers bred by people who regularly show their dogs. Those of us who show will only keep the best prospects, but the ones we place usually look quite nice. Most of the poor quality heads I see come from "breeders" who just produce puppies to sell, and don't show their dogs. Start your search on our breed club website, www.ckcsc.org, and click on the "Find A Cavalier" tab. Also watch my video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/oHybnqWGmNGEmJY. If you have any other questions, by email is charlieweidig@gmail.com

Hey Charlie, I am a big fan, I’m wondering if you will be at Westminster this year, and if you will be entering Apple?
@chaskat35
@chaskat35 2 ай бұрын
Yes, we are entered and will be there, but not with Apple. Dogs must have already earned their AKC Championship in order to be eligible, and Apple has not. Jamba, however, is a Champion. My granddaughter will be handling him, and I will be standing ringside. Come say hello if you are there. If you can't make it, you can live stream the Cavalier breed competition from the Westminster KC website on Monday, 5/13.

Hi there, can you offer any advice about syringomyelia in Cavaliers? I suspect that my dog may have it and would like to hear if you have experienced it, thanks so much!
@chaskat35
@chaskat35 2 ай бұрын
We've been very fortunate to have a virtually SM-free line of Cavaliers. In all the years we've been breeding, we only heard of one case diagnosed out of the many that we have produced, and that was an unusual case that developed very late in the dog's life. It was a mild case that had no effect on the remainder of his life. The first symptom you will usually see is what we call "phantom" scratching. That's characterized by the dog scratching with his rear leg, but usually not even touching the skin with his paw - sort of scratching in the air, above his rear - and the dog will often do it while walking. If it progresses, the scratching will persist and look more like normal scratching, and eventually it can cause pain, which is usually pretty obvious from the dog's behavior. Keep in mind that any kind of constant scratching can also be caused by other factors, such as being infected by fleas, or wearing a collar that the dog is not comfortable with.

I wonder, how and where did Boo ride during the long flight to Europe? My Jude is 21 lbs and I don’t think he can ride in the cabin but I’d love to bring him with me on my next vacation to France.
@chaskat35
@chaskat35 2 ай бұрын
Most airlines have a weight limit of 25 lbs for dog and carrier combined. If I were you, I'd get a lightweight carrier, and cut Jude's food down so he loses a pound or two; that will also be a benefit for his heart. In the many times I've flown with dogs, I have never had anyone actually check the weight of the dog and carrier. The carrier always goes under the seat in front of you, and he'd be in there for a pretty long time going to France. When we went with Boo, my wife was suffering from nerve pain caused by herniated discs, which was aggravated by stress. We had a letter from her neurologist that allowed us to certify Boo as an Emotional Support Animal, so she was able to be out of the carrier the whole way, sleeping on our laps, and on our heads when we reclined. The cabin crew absolutely loved her. Years ago, it was not very difficult to get an ESA designation, but the airlines have tightened up more and more lately, and I don't think any airlines recognize ESAs as service animals any longer. I have traveled twice with puppies we imported from Europe, and both times they rode in the carrier under the seat. Both did very well, as long as I allowed them to potty right before leaving, and right after arriving.

@@chaskat35 thank you so much for this thorough response! Jude is a large cavalier and is quite thin at 21 lbs but we’ll try to lose that 1 extra pound. He’s flown as an ESA before and as you’ve said, no issues. In fact, the crew love him. But that was in the before times. We’re both seniors and hope to figure out something so that Jude can travel with us. It’s just no fun without him no matter where we go.

There is an interesting piece in today's (3/17/2024) New York Times about the ARK facility at JFK Airport. ARK handles the importing and exporting of all types of animals and is run by a private company who has an agreement with the Port Authority. Thanks, Charles for the video.

My 4 month old Blenheim boy would rather 💩 in the house even though we just had him outside 2 min prior. Or sometimes he will 💩 outside then come inside and squeeze out a few turds upstairs? also deliberately peed on couch blanket twice. very frustrating 🧐
@chaskat35
@chaskat35 2 ай бұрын
His freedom in the house should still be restricted at 4 months of age. After going out, give him some time for SUPERVISED play in a limited area of the house, where you are with him and can stop him from pooping in the house. Then put him in the crate for a nap - when he wakes up, start the cycle over again. Also, I allow very selective access to the upstairs. My dogs don't get run of the house until they are over 2 years old, and even then we block off the stairs to them.

Hi I had a male dog that did this same behavior…go outside…come in and poop inside…I’m 62 and after many dogs, the best new advice is to not let them have run of the house…a pup that young there is no shame for putting him in a crate or ex pen when you can’t directly supervise. Keep puppy world small until they learn the basics…taking him out at least every two hours especially when they wake up from nap or nighttime sleep, after playing, after meals. There are lots of free puppy advice/training KZbin channels that address potty training…it is really important and so worth it to follow that advice! My 1 year old female cav was a breeze to potty train following this advice. Honestly she is the first dog that I have had that I never used a pee pad with and she doesn’t go potty in the house! I didn’t know this information with my other dogs…I followed it and like I said it is sooo worth it …hope Charlie doesn’t mind if I share two channels with you just put in search bar McCanns dog training the other is called “Dogs That” they both do videos and podcasts on all things puppy/dog training…From my experience…I have found males are harder to potty train….check these out and Good Luck😊Kimberly

Charlie just did a video I believe called Teddy’s day about 2 weeks ago…he goes through the day and shares lots of good info on the routine…when and how many times he goes outside, etc…I would suggest checking that out…keep your puppy’s world small and don’t feel bad crating him when you cannot directly supervise…they sleep a lot at that age anyway! Routine is key…Good Luck😊Kimberly
