It would be helpful to show the difference, and discuss what can be done about either.

Dystonia is not just genetic. It can be down regulated gaba + dopamine centers with gene mutation, and gene expression from taking benzodiazepines, and especially from the cessation of a benzodiazepine. #akathisia #TD #dystonia #prescribedharm

I have both and I still can't tell the difference... Most of my body is affected by them and it confuses me when my neurologist says that some symptoms looks more like Dystonia and others like dyskinesia. Is there really that much of a difference? I can't tell them apart at all.

I thought Dyskinesia was a kind of Dystonia? or is that the other way around? If it presents with Ataxia is it more likely to be Dyskinesia or Dystonia? I have athetoid type movements which started as balance and co-ordination difficulties in my early 30's (now 44) The athetoid-type movements in hands/arms and sometimes tongue didn;t start ill after I hit 40.

I'm not 100% sure but from what I've read, I think your second guess may have been correct and it is the other way around.

adarsh tripathi dystonia can be life long so NO it's not acute Now a Dystonia reaction at one acute instance would be temporary This does not mean it won't be lifelong for some people

This guy is so WRONG. Dyskinesia refers to a CATEGORY of movement disorders that are characterized by involuntary muscle movements. Types of dyskinesia includes: 1. Dystonia 2. Athetosis 3. Chorea 4. Hemiballismus 5. Myoclonus 6. Tardive dyskinesia (see drug-induced dyskinesias) 7. Tics 8. Tremor

You better look it up again. Dystonia is a prolonged contraction in a particular muscle or increased muscle tone that results in abnormal posturing or a muscle spasm. ... Dyskinesia, on the other hand, is more like a rhythmic contraction of large muscle groups, often described as a rolling or writhing motion.

@@MydogWoofs Hey, dip shit. You're a moron, and you're wrong. From Wikipedia: "Dyskinesia refers to a category of movement disorders that are characterized by involuntary muscle movements,[1] including movements similar to tics or chorea and diminished voluntary movements.[2]"
