It happened to my neighborhood in 1990 when it rained for a week and the city dam was opened without a warning of a possible flood. It destroyed my family's old house and FEMA gave very little to repair. The house was torn down. We ended up living in a shelter until we got public housing, a nightmare.

Our dog Chewy is a hurricane Harvey puppy. The family had to evacuate and they left their pregnant dog behind at a shelter. After he was born Chewy and his siblings were shipped up north where we adopted him. 😍

I wonder how well that rain chain would have handled it?

This was a hard episode to watch. We lost our home and almost everything in it to a fire, and watched it be razed to the ground afterwards. The weird thing about a fire, is that just as much damage is done by the water used to put the fire out, as the fire itself. Knowing all these people suffered the same kind of loss breaks my heart.

All cities need to build RETENTION PONDS in low lying areas and STOP BUILDING in these areas! New Orleans is another prime example! Insurance companies are going bankrupt because cities have gotten greedy and allowed building to take place where it SHOULD NOT have been permitted!

This is Part of what's def Uniquely American. The amount of money in charity, helping others, coming together, and responding to adversity always seems to bring people together.

Give me a break, uniquely American? I applaud the commitment people have to their neighbors and communities and Americans don't get own that. Shows of solidarity are human characteristics.

@@fhoughloftnposdu2641 It is unique. According to world giving index Americans are the most giving people. As a country the US gives the most foreign. 10 Billion more than no. 2 and nearly double 3rd and lower.

It's unbelievable how much crap ends up in landfills. ALL the mountains of garbage all just gets buried somewhere. Pretty soon we will be overrun by our own waste.

I was in Jackson M.S when Katrina hit. My family had to stay at a church for a few days after. I still miss there some times (now in Kansas), I know Jackson wasn't hit as bad as New Orleans but it still caused issues, family drama afterwards didn't help either.

I'm glad TOH came by to show the devastation left behind, but looking at this now in 2020 the first thing that stands out to me? How close everyone is getting to each other and not a mask in sight. This timeline is really screwy.

Can we PLEASE have some Roger updates?!? I know his portion of this was recorded long ago, it's been a while since there has been any word on how he is doing. I know he retired and is done with this and so forth but can we please get just a few sentences? You don't have to put him on camera if he isn't cool with it, just tell us how he is getting on, what's new with him, what is he up to when he can still move around? I recall seeing him fishing on the boat with you guys last year. Time for a more recent update.
