For the porch swing, I think I would have installed a joist hanger on those cross-blocks instead of just two screws in the end grain.

Hi Richard, if you read this do you have a video that tells me if a radiator can be plug up and how to unclog it and if I drain the system how do I flush it out. Its up on the second floor. 9 room house and sometimes I hear water dripping on the burners. I need your Help. Sorry, I wanted to send this to you, but I did not know where to send it to. HELP ! 11/12/2019

I wonder why he wanted the swing that way and not at the end of the pouch where he could have had it side ways with more room to swing and the 2x6 was right there and did not need to add wood. I think he will be replacing that screen behind the swing.

The mason has fine skills and attention to details however removing perfectly fine lime mortar to then point in cement mortar because you want the color to match- no. Doing that removed important historic character and replaced it with an incorrect material. Lime mortar is readily available to be made just as easily as type n. Or one could use NHL (natural hydraulic lime) and fine sand to accomplish what the original builder of that beauty would have expected in a repair. And it is relevant beyond keeping with the traditions even with this indoor fireplace because movement does happen in old buildings and like the fine mason said- the mortar crumbled just like it should have... lime mortar has very different properties than Portland cement/lime mortar.
