Dwight Dutton That seems to be incorrect. The source for that is the Liutprand of Cremona, who mistakenly cited Pope Sergius the III (904-911) as the one responsible for the trial rather than Stephen VII. Sergius III did seem to be present for the original trial as he was a supporter of Stephen VII and did uphold the original verdict. No other historians or theologians that I have found have corroborated Luitprand's version. It's all exclusively that there was one trial.

The best part was when I was writing a fiction story on website which the starting catalyst for events was an obvious ripoff of the assassination of Franz Ferdinand... I think I named "Marquis Hanz Helsinki" or something ridiculous like that. It was during a world building exercise--and I barely made an effort to file off the serial numbers and EVERYBODY was getting upset and down voting it, due to the sheer unrealism of such a story. I'm fully aware that history is filled with many more strange tales of nonsense that makes the assassination of Franz Ferdinand seem logical and just a normal set of events. Oh... and that is not the only historical event I plagurised and barely filled off the serial numbers--and had people telling me my story was super unrealistic xD

A bit of macabre trivia here: Pope Paulus Sextus, 262nd in line, died in 1978, followed by Ioannes Paulus Primus, number 263, who sat in St. Peter's chair for a mere 33 days. I remember watching the televised proceedings and thinking, "Didn't we just do this?" Of course, NOTHING matched the ghoulish thrill of seeing people walking up to kiss the ring on the blackening hands of a decomposing and UN-embalmed pontiff. Or two. In late summer. In Rome.

It was a very romantic story, until she was murdered... but when her lover, the prince Pedro I (Peter the first in english) rose to the throne, he decided that she should be crowned queen of Portugal, so, years after her death they dug her up and dressed her in a royal dress and jewelry and had an official coronation, where the nobles had to pay the due respects to her by kissing her cadaver hand...

THIS dead pope trial was by far my favourite!!! Good grief, there is something to be said about the harmful effects of vitamin deficiencies, eh? No matter how crazy the world is today, you couldn't pay me to go back in time and live during those times. Those people were CRAZY!!! Once again, you have outdone yourself!!! Waiting with bated breath until your next video lesson!!! :)

Great story! I think you'd like "Bockstensmannen". A Swedish man found in a bog, hundreds of years old, and a very well preserved corpse. He is to be found in a museum here in Sweden. He had been killed, but it's still quite unknown who he was, and why he was killed in a bog. Love from a Swedish 23 year old, no longer afraid of death, girl :)

People are freaking out about this and saying this is the weirdest shit in history and I’m living for it. Also, the Roman Catholic Church got rid of a pope’s death certificate because the proceeding pope was a woman (found out because she had a miscarriage in the middle of the road). Her name is Pope Joan btw
@queerbotanicalqueen4 жыл бұрын
I thought Pope Joan didn’t exist. I’ve always heard that she’s more of a legend and not a real person.

Regrettably for the Romans who had to suffer through their leader's string of self aggrandizing acts, Stephen was unshaken by the event and did not resign in the face of his selfishness and stupidity being made known to all.

Thank you SO much for what you do. I found your page months ago with the idea that embalming and cremation were the only 2 options available and I was NOT ok with either option. Like at all. It scared me when I thought about it but what choice does one have? Enter you and my eyes have been opened! I didn't even know natural burial was a thing and I'm currently looking into places like Western Carolina University. I also plan on having a sit down with local funeral homes to learn more about the "process" of your typical funeral/burial. In other words, you helped turn a subject I feared and avoided into a budding obsession. Whoa... Didn't see that coming! ;)

Good lord , you are a hoot to watch !! I am a 64 year old Canadian and remember a lot of your subjects . Having watched 7 or 8 vids so far , I find your way of telling the stories remind me of Rick Green, a Canadian writer , actor who wrote the" HISTORY BITES" episodes. History presented with humor on all sorts of events. (He also co-wrote " The Red Green Show") If you have 25 minutes , PLEASE check History Bites (several episodes were recently uploaded) You two would make a great team , I feel .

As far as story suggestions go, you cover so much and I'm interested in everything! My favorite stories, I suppose, are when human remains are found by accident ... when they're dug up during construction, or in some random yard. Sometimes it's a murder, sometimes it's a common burial ground (inhabited by American Indians, usually). In the eastern Georgia countryside they have many abandoned family graveyards located on farmland. Eventually the residents move on. And the graveyards stay. Most are from early to mid 1800s. Many are babies and young children.😞

"way to long..with all the popes and death... And Germans.." Jep, I see the connection. Germans make everything so complicated.. ;p
@robertnett97934 жыл бұрын
Wait? Just because we created a holy mess of splinter states pressed into an artificial construct based on a 1000 year old or so fraud, controlled by an even bigger mess of church and worldly leaders more on each others throats as you have in Crusader Kings... and so instabile it could explode any moment? Ah - that's totally straight forward...
