Move over Betham's Head- there's a new skull in town!
Order members Colin Dickey & Bess Lovejoy both wrote excellent accounts of Haydn's skull capers in their books, linked below.
Thank you Patron deathlings, who make this all possible!

And here I am, feeling absolutely okay for the first time in too long thanks to this in my face cure from fear of death. The nurses are a wee bit worried about me staying in bed finding comfort in watching a perky mortician making death so relatable instead of rocking back and forth in a chair in the hallway ripping hair, biting toe nails and talking to disembodied voices but hey, whatever floats my boat. Thank you so much for helping me forget my troubles for... Almost four hours straight. You are a lifesaver.

Thanks everyone, I know he was beyond old and it was really time for him to go. It was peaceful and heartbreaking and beautiful... I'm 29, I literally grew up with that boy... And now he's not there anymore and it's weird, but I know it's so much better for him. 18 is crazy old for a doggo, and he had the very best (and maybe longest) life he ever could've had. I spent a few hours sitting next to his fresh grave and reflected on the fact that, even after all that time, even throughout his death and his burial and his inevitable decomposition... I was still by his side. He always knew he was loved beyond measure, in the way only a dog can really love.. And I smoked a cigarette while talking to him, then drew a heart in ash on the paver put over his grave. That's my boy. It's a shame dogs only get to live a fraction of their humans lives, but he was there through all the most formative years of my life and I'll be damned if I wasn't going to be there for him right until the end and well beyond. He was always the most loving and affectionate creature I knew, I will return the favour in every way I can until I can't anymore. He will live a million lives in a million ways, as his cells become the earth and the trees and the flowers and the stars - But the combination I knew them in is several feet underground wrapped in his favorite blanket with a treat and I can't deny that it was... Peaceful and relieving alongside heartbreaking, to see him returned to the earth after an extremely long and well lived life. I just miss him, selfishly, like we do, but I can handle it. His fur was blowing gently in the breeze as my dad dug a grave for him. He seemed like he was asleep, and younger than he'd been in years. We all need to go sometime. I just hope that when it's my time, I'm shown the same love, care, and mercy that we gave him. RIP Jet - I met you as a loud energetic puppy when I was an awkward pre-teen boy, and I had to say goodbye to an old tired rickety dog as a a fully grown man, and I'll still never let you go.

Ms Zavala haha I'm studying his music so I'm not sure this will help in my exam! But it's interesting nonetheless. I'm going to want to try to incorporate it and hope the moderator is a fan of death facts..."Haydn spent much of his career isolated in Esterhazy, meaning that his symphonies rarely incorporated newer instruments, and he certainly didn't make use of the clarinet to the extent that Mozart did. Haydn's head was stolen and studied after his death and was not reunited with his body until over a century after."

I can't answer for her and am no expert but the average body buried in the earth in a warm climate is reduced to bones in a few months. I can't post links but "The Big Boper" was on the airplane Buddy Holly was on in 1959 when it crashed and killed all 4 people. The day the music died. About 5 years ago they had to move his body. His son was not born until after the Boper died. They viewed his body and people he knew in life were amazed he looked almost perfect other than some mold on his face. That was 12 + 21 years ago.
