I'm SOOO happy to see other artists recommending and promoting SAFETY - you discuss fumes - but DO THIS TO PROVE IT TO YOURSELF..... WHEN you are MIXING your resin - take your cup and move near a beam of sunlight. You will see a billion little particles that almost look like "knats" flying around your cup. Those are microscopic resin bubbles floating around!!! The rise in the air and settle in your lungs, nose, eyes in your hair and on your skin - and THEN THEY HARDEN! YIKES! Literally. I know people who deal with severe asthma and allergy issues because they refuse to believe resin is harmful. I appreciate this video. :) Love your channel by the way - new subscriber. :)

Oof! That is crazy! I worked with resin for the first time to make 2 small pendants. I thought I’d be fine without a mask (I was waiting for it to get delivered) and omg 30 mins later I felt sooooo sick! I felt so out of it and lasted til the day after. Never doing that again. I also wasn’t in a ventilated area. Also, never doing that again. Crazy to imagine it hardening on you

I am so grateful, thank you for putting this video together. Eight years ago I created mixed media on a mural size canvas. I decided to spray paint resin on it. So I put on a new respirator first time opening the package. It took five minutes for the fumes to go through the mask, causing severe sickness! Six weeks later I went to an herbalist. She said I had Chemical burns to my throat and lungs. Thank God for her tincture remedies. It only took three doses of a tincture to knock it out of me. Later on I learned that even a new mask has an expiration date, because the air filters dry out. That’s why I’m so grateful for this video. Thank you. Yesterday I spent 4 1/2 hours watching resin artist on KZbin. I saw incredible artwork being created. And no one was wearing a respirator mask, goggles, or even talking about it. Then viewing some of them inhaling and blowing through a straw. I found theses fumes to be deadly.

Thank you for this video! I'm a polymer clay earrings maker, so this video is super helpful. I can't comprehend how there can be so many polymer clay earrings UV resin tutorials and like 1% of them contain information on safety while using and curing the UV resin. Earrings with UV resin look great, the shine is amazing and it helps seal smaller details or gold foil. However, I'm still hesitant to start working with UV resin, I'm worried if I should risk my health for a crafts hobby (even with proper safety equipment).

I used this during pouring and heat gunning. I took it off and sat in the kitchen 30 minutes to catch drops. Unfortunately that was enough time to cause rashes and rapid heartbeat along with allergy issues. Stone Coat Countertop. It was just a small countertop repour. Back in 2018 I did a huge amount of pouring resin without anything with very little consequences.

Man respirator is an absolute must. When mixing, I'm fortunate enough to have a garage that I open and have a fan on but when sanding, the particals absolutely cover me and to breath all that in would be a nightmare!! Goggles are helpful too. I got particals in my eye while I was sanding a huge chunk of allumilite with an angle grinder and it stung for like 2 days in a row. Stuff is amazing to make projects but absolutely NASTY when it comes to your body lol.

This is a really nice video. I use art resin as per the brand it says no VOC & non toxic. But after watching lot of resin safety video I bought a half respirator with Particulate filter cartridge. The thing is when should we replace the cartridge. After using I remove the cartridge & store it in air tight bag

I think you'll know when you use resin. It's harder to breathe in the mask when the cartridge is bad. If you smell resin through mask it's bad. I recommend changing the cartridges every 3 months after moderate use. I wouldn't wait for the mentioned above reasons.

@@Nettie-jt1nv I'm actually non-ironically in terrible health since I took the job but mostly because I eat like shit like a whole box of little caesars plus assessories. I can easily water-fast off my symptoms of a terrible foggy head. It's been recently (2 weeks) that I started feeling ill effect and lots of sleeping. I wear a mask at the machine but sometimes i drink my jug of water and actually breathe in directly the UV resin expoxy fumes which has dirt in it too, totally my fault but I'm stuck at that station and cannot move around at some times due to the fork lifts moving around but i try to drink water outside. water is a universal solvent you know, easy for the fumes to get in it even if the cap of the water jug 1 gallon is open for a second. Lots of the reasons why the direct UV resin expoxy fumes was because it was effecting my critical thinking and thus continued a cycle of repeating the same mistakes no matter how many times i tell myself not to do it again. easy to build bad habits for 6 months straight and forget to repair them . whatever makes me look good when the boss passes by, he loves to see me take out the trash or so I assume. the last guy who was in my place was his son, he was in TERRIBLE health and he left to work at an elemantary school and while he did have pre existing health conditions my mind is like his now, a little foggy and eat terrible, i drink 2 gallons of water a day with salt. to asborb the toxins and expel it outside my body, it hurts my butt and some days i don't do that to heal the last days. my voice speaks like my voice box is coated in UV fumes 24/7. i can resolve my issues with the UV fumes in a manner of 30 days by water fasting but I can't just obtain the displince to finish a water-fast past 3 days, I get too tired. It has effected me but it's not unresolvable for me, I choose to not suffer water-fasting to suffer this fate, terrible choices indeed

I would use the different filters for each. Because you don't want to clog up your vapor filters with dust. The resin curing stinks depending on the type of resin.

You can't really clean the cartridges you can whipe the mask down. The replacement of cartridges usually depends on usage. I go by 2 things. If I can smell the resin in my mask when I put it on. I recommend changing. If I find it difficult to breath, like a stuff nose kinda when, I change them. Or you can just change them every 3 months. I don't use mine every day or even every other day so I change mine 6-7 months

I work outside with resin. I use a N95 mask & gloves and the second I've poured and happy with it I leave it outside to cure for 12-20 hours and stay away from that area

I would use the p100 pink disc filters for the sanding against dust also wear goggles so you don't get the resin dust in your eyes and lungs. Then use the respirator filters when applying the resin

The filters you mentioned are correct as they block organic vapour. The 60923 has more protection against other materials. I've never combined the two I just change out my vapour gas filters with the Magenta 2091 P100 filter for wood dust.

@@aravinda4387 it depends on the amount of use. I change mine out every 6 months now but I don't use resin as much as I used to. I used to change them out every 3 months when I was using resin 2-3 times a week for couple hours a day. If you smell resin inside the mask, that is past time to change them, if you detach a filter and smell resin very strong inside the opening of the cartridge you should change it. Most important test is if you put your respirator on and you have trouble or difficulty breathing that means the filters are clogged and should be changed.

Ive been trying to find an answer to my question for a while now but cant seem to. If i use resin indoors in a well ventilated area with protection and then leave the windows/doors open for around 2 hours would that be enough for me to then be sure that the fumes are gone? The danger is when the resin is wet and being applied or dried. That's why you need to wear a respirator mask. Once the resin is dry and the room is ventilated it shouldn't be a threat. It's considered a natural vapor gas when the resin is wet and bonding.

So I sanded with a stupid respirator that apparently filtered the gas just fine its a 3m 6001 but the stupid particulate filter wasn't included when I thought it was.. how dangerous is this? I wet sanded and only.did a very light sanding but still I'm worried about my lung health

Hi Margie, The 60926 Offers protection against additional gases. I think for Resin use you can use either I've read that both offer protection for resin 60923: Certain Organic Vapors, Chlorine, Hydrogen Chloride, and Sulfur Dioxide or Hydrogen Sulfide or Hydrogen Fluoride and Particulates 60926 filter protects against Certain Organic Vapors, Chlorine, Hydrogen Chloride, Chlorine Dioxide, Sulfur Dioxide, Hydrogen Sulfide, Ammonia/Methylamine, Formaldehyde¹ or Hydrogen Fluoride and Particulates

Yea your vinyl gloves should work. In regards to the cartridges, it depends on how often and how heavily you use them. But to be safe I would change them out every three to six months. One way of finding out if they work or not is if you start smelling alcohol when you put your mask on. If you start smelling the smell of the isopropyl alcohol then I would recommend changing them out ASAP

Unfortunately it doesn't look like that this epoxy is made in the United States or Europe. Therefore they do not provide an SDS or MDS I would not trust a company that does not provide or have this type of sheet. It could mean that it may be more dangerous than resin that's made here. I would not take the risk and still wear safety equipment. But I would not buy resin and it does not have an SDS supplied that is registered in the United States or Europe

From experience I have never seen a resin that did not have vocs. A lot of resins say they're non-toxic in their natural form after they've dried. But when you start adding paint and other pigment to it it changes the nature of resin therefore making it toxic If you're planning to eat off of it or from it. But in regards to the chemical reaction that happens when you mix two parts of resin there is always VOCs and it's not worth the risk.

I had heard about the dangers to lungs and epoxy a while ago but I've q been watching a lot of tik tok and resin tumblers are huge on there. There are a few people making them on lives and nobody wears a mask. I have fancied started doing the tumblers and when I asked why they don't wear a mask they just say its personal preference. I wondered if it was because of the small amount of epoxy they were using didn't really make a difference but having watched your video I now think they are really risking their health. They make these tumblers with epoxy on live, put ink colours on then use a blow torch to move the colours on it, then less than a foot away they have about 5 tumblers spinning, air drying. This is dangerous right?

I stopped using Latex. Try using Nitrile gloves

@@AskariArt Maybe you can help answer another question... When I lay matted material, how do I keep the tiny bubbles from showing through on my finished surface? Im spending WAY too much time dremeling them out. Its has to be a glassy, pristine surface. Ive tried the roller but it only helps a little.

@@Flamingpenguin88 I typically use a torch or a heat gun to get all the bubbles out before the resin dries. But when you're mixing the two components to make resin, you want to make sure you don't mix it too violently because that's how the air gets trapped. I usually mix the resin with my hand slowly without getting air trapped in the resin in the beginning and it takes you longer to get the air out with a blowtorch or a heat gun

@@AskariArt Ill have to try the heat gun. Im using an ISO-Poly resin with MEKP catalyst. I stir them with a tongue depresser. After its mixed I wet my back cast with a paint brush then sprinkle some hair in the corners before I start laying the mat material.

Hey is epoxy still toxic when it's hardend up? I want to make a mouthpiece out of epoxy, so it would be in contact with my resperatory system. Is it dangerous ?

+Korken Auskork usually resin is safe to after dried. people use it for counter tops and cheese boards. but the contact is different than having something in your mouth that you bite down on. I wouldn't take the risk for something like that.

Yea, I use a mouth piece for BJJ and over time you tend to chew on it. But those are plastic too which I'm not sure if that's good for you either. Please keep me informed if you make one and try it. I'm very curious

@@AskariArt i'm going to make a mouthpiece for a hookah. It's going to be Out of peach Wood that has holes in it. The Resin is going to plug those holes. And just to be extra Sure i'll coat the inside of the mouthpiece with beewax. At least that's the plan for now

Is it better not to use resin at all? I want to make resin art but certainly not at the cost of my health. If I wear the mask you recommended is there still a risk from resin? I mean does the mask make using resin a 100% or at least 99% safer?? Or is it still not a good idea to dabble in this hobby?

If you use a full face mask of this mask to even protect eyes and gloves you'll be alot safer than not using anything like most people. Nothing is 100% but you know you're not breathing this in. The Mask will protect you from the vapors if the seal is completely covering your mouth and you dont have facial hair etc.

What do you mean by a normal mask? I only recommend a respirator because resin releases a vapour gas that a regular mask won't filter out?

I see many 'woodworker' vids about the epoxy table craze that has occurred over the last several years, but none of these people (or most of these people) wear any type of safety masks, etc. Makes you wonder why...??

I'm not sure why they aren't using respirators. Some of the table wood makers use cast resin which allows pours in thicker layers. The drying time is longer. Most Resins have SDS sheets to tell you the safety concerns

I actually would recommend the full face over half face respirator. It's more expensive but helps protect your eyes as well. I typically use goggles or safety glasses with the half face.

Hi! I used a mask Similar to yours but I didn't use a suit and got hives all over my arms which spread everywhere :( Second time I didn't use any protection except gloves and now hives are happening again :( not good

Not sure. I used gloves that I have for work. But the hives starts on my neck (skin was exposed to Fumes) and my forearms. Both times absolutely no hives on my hands. First time I did touch the wet resin, second time wore gloves the whole time. Reckon I can wear full body Chem suit and masks and gloves and shoes to do it 😂? I brought heapppppa of stuff to do resin

As long as your wearing a respirator.i think so. People in the balconies probably won be affected they would be far from it. Resin on a balcony creates other issues like moisture in air, ideal temperature an dust and bugs.

I honestly wouldn't risk it. The fumes and vapor gas released from the resin no matter the size.
