Jobs wise have you considering trying temp agencies? I don't know what type of job you are looking for but in my experience it's not uncommon within office jobs to start temp and be offered a permanent contract after several months. Also some jobs advertise themselves as temp to perm so it also makes it easier to know the likelihood of it becoming a full time job.
