This was 25 years ago, i was locked in jail as a 16-17 year old. Wow, these discussions were already happening. I'm 41 now and the light is finally shining through. My grandmother told me about God in the 90s, she was a devoted Christian if only I listened to her more.

It’s ok bro. I’m 21 and at 14-18 I was runnin the street. Trying to be someone I clearly wasn’t. Sold drugs. And was sleeping around and then I met the Lord. And my grandma always taught me biut the Lord and even taught others in church. If only we would’ve listened 😂but see. You now have the ability to relate to those who’ve been behind bars and felt like there is no way out. Now you can come to them from a place of understanding. God uses the misfits most of all!

I went most of my life completely turned away from God. I didn't even give it any thought; the world around me said it wasn't so, so it wasn't. But when I was at my lowest I prayed and he saved me! I look at all these videos too and think "Wow, I was wasting my life away while God was still working." It's a humbling thought that reminds us that not everything is about us, but about the Lord.

I to was in prison at 16-19 as I was tried as an adult. Thats when I first heard the word Salvation. A seed was sowed but still I didn't truly listen. I was born a Catholic and did all the schools and rituals they offered but nothing was really taught. It wasn't till I was 30 facing life plus 20 years in prison did I turn to Christ and live for God. I am now 47 and I have been a Pastor for 9 years now and Lead a Motorcycle Ministry and I get to serve in my home church. God is good, Loving and forgiving! God Bless You!

@@stewwweee Ok, so you're asking why I waste my time disagreeing with Cliffe's point of view, that's a fair question. I was raised up to believe in Christianity, it played a massive part in my early life, the fear of Hell was an integral part of me beginning to question what I was being taught, over time I thought more about the whole subject of whether or not a God exists, it's something I think about a lot, probably because of my upbringing, it's not something I can shake off. The more I think about it, the more it makes sense to me that it's not true. That's a big deal isn't it? Don't you as a Christian believe that I am hellbound.. whatever that entails, .. is that a big deal to you that non believers are going to Hell?, is it something you care about at all? Truth matters to me, and I want to know as many true things as possible and as few false things as possible. So the question I would ask you is, how do you go about determining what is true, and what is not true? This certainly isn't a waste of my time, i love having these conversations, I'm sure Cliffe enjoys debating with Students aswell, .. have you ever seen any student be convinced by his arguments?. I'd be interested to get your views. What is your native tongue btw?

These classics are amazing. It’s super interesting to see the change in people’s decorum from the 1990s to now. I would argue there are many aspects that have changed. Here’s a few I noticed: 1. People actually asked better, more thought out questions back then. 2. People were more passionate. 3. At the same time, although people argued more passionately, they were also more polite in the way that they interrupted less and let the other person finish their point before speaking again. They also seemed to hear out Cliffe more before responding. (Increased attention spans). They also asked their questions In a more respectful, tasteful manner as a whole. 4. The crowd was more respectful. Laughing less at points they disagree with, not interrupting, less chatter in between the debates. More just being present in the moment and watching the “show” and listening to each speaker without getting emotional. Super, super interesting. I think it would be interesting to hear Cliffe speak on the changes on society / college students throughout the decades of debating them. Please keep the classics coming.

Cliff is an inclusivist and talks like one but then he says he doesn’t know how those people who never heard of God get judged . I think he doesn’t do that because he is scared of the backlash that he would get from the exclusivists who say that anyone that doesn’t proclaim Jesus as lord and savior is going to hell whether he heard of him or not . Inclusivism was the view that most of the early Christian’s believed in

As secularism and atheism grow the world is becoming a better place, the shackles that religion has placed on man can finally be banished to the past. We no longer need the control that religion exercises over us. Religion is a non-falsifiable hypothesis that puts forth no useful predictions about how the nature of things should be if the theory is true, and so it cannot be tested or falsified. It is a belief system, not a knowledge system. It does not explain or predict observed facts.

Cliffe is like the best chess player😊. He chooses the most difficult venues (universities) to establish the existence of God vis a vis Lord Jesus and beats them/ students & professors hands down. It is very difficult to do that especially when your surrounded by the best brains in the land. More so since its very to difficult to educate individuals who are educated may be different fields but have their own world views and opinions about life and how we came to exist. Evolution on the other hand giving them a lame explanation ( i.e. life by accident) they are left with no better option and thus seek evidence about God. What we should notice however is they do ask for evidence when it comes to theory of evolution since that's been categorised under 'accident'. So Cliffe takes all the pain to explain God and wins them over whether they accept God there after or not is entirely up to them, but he's done his job. Keep it going its so nice to see educated people discuss in a logical manner as opposed to the offences street preachers face when they confront atheist, gays, other religious people etc. There are certain students nevertheless during Cliffe's sessions who behave rudely. All the very best Cliffe👍👏👏

Cliff makes so much sense. If you use your brain and go deeper than the surface like most people do then you will see that every individual has individual characteristics that are not able to be recreated ever in life again. Nobody can live that same life you lived even if they did everything you did the exact same time you did them. We will always experience each experience we have differently than all other people on earth. That can’t be accident and it can’t be our body and mind automatically firing off neurons making us think or move a certain way. That means we were created by a higher all knowing being which is God.

The predestination discussion is a difficult one. I wonder what Cliff would say about this passage from Romans: “Has the potter no right over the clay, to make out of the same lump one vessel for honorable use and another for dishonorable use? What if God, desiring to show his wrath and to make known his power, has endured with much patience vessels of wrath prepared for destruction, in order to make known the riches of his glory for vessels of mercy, which he has prepared beforehand for glory-” ‭‭Romans‬ ‭9‬:‭21‬-‭23‬ ‭ESV‬‬

it might seem difficult, but only if you know just the Calvinistic interpretation. so, let me tell you a few things about Romans 9: - there are chapters before and after Rom 9, so please read everything in context - the audience for Paul are Jews that think that they will be saved just because they are Jews, not 21st-century gentiles concerned about soteriology - youtube search: Romans 9: A Non-Calvinist Interpretation by Evidence Unseen , or check other interpretations - most importantly, compare how many times Bible directly contradicts the theistic determinism a.ka Calvinism, with how many times it seemingly supports it. lastly, God Bless You, no matter if you are a Calvinist or Non-Calvinist

The balance of God’s sovereignty vs. man’s responsibility is so tough. Scripture doesn’t really try to reconcile the two in a clear and elementary way. We must look at the Word altogether and submit to it, rather than become attached to certain doctrines and view scripture through a warped lens

What a load of crap! You would think that a god would make it perfectly clear when it comes to eternal salvation. It's like god is saying, "You all figure it out. And if you get it wrong, I will light you on fire."

@@Generatorman59 I think you misunderstood my point, and are talking about a different topic altogether. God does make it perfectly clear when it comes to eternal salvation. My point was about how exactly God's sovereignty ("GOD pre-destines, GOD'S elect, GOD is the potter") and our responsibility ("MEN should repent, unless YOU believe that I am He, work out YOUR salvation with fear and trembling") are not reconciled as plainly as 2+2=4. Therefore, we affirm God's sovereignty and praise Him for it, but also submit to the commands and imperatives toward us, and preach to others to do the same. If you read this, please reply and tell me if it makes sense and whether you think it is biblical or not. I want to make sure I am not completely off my rocker, which very well may be the case lol

@@hablaf12 Yes, you gave a good explanation. However, I totally reject the proposition for the existence of a god due to a lack of sufficient evidence to warrant a belief. What I was referring about in my previous comment was how different denominations of Christianity can read the same bible and come up with entirely different interpretations. It is mind boggling how some Christians will say that Hell is a place of eternal torture, others will say it is just a separation from god. And still others will say that it is a place of torture, but temporary, then you will be annihilated. Some Christians will read certain stories and say the events literally happened, while others will say it is just symbolic. However, most Christians will say you need the Holy Spirit to guide you to the meaning of scripture and they still come up with conflicting interpretations.

@@hablaf12 One of my sticking points about the interpretation of the bible is on the topic of slavery. I point out Leviticus 25:45, which says, "Moreover you may buy the children of the strangers who dwell among you..." And most Christians will say that nowhere in the bible does it say that the Israelites can buy children. And I ask them to read it, it's right there in your holy book. And they still insist that they are not to buy children.

When they talk about there being more to life than matter and energy they should really bring up the consciousness experience. It really runs contrary to the ideas of materialism, as I could go on and on about how logically absurd being an observer of this reality is for the context of physical reality - it's an entirely new thing with crazy implications. If I was just a body I wouldn't be experiencing things from the perspective of myself, as there would be no self from which there is observing. It is why we are not machines or robots or nonliving matter, we exist as more than thought because such thought has a ""thing"" of some kind (that ""thing"" being oneself) observing it. We care about others because we know deep in someone else's mind there is a life being lived, and it is an experience BECAUSE there is a THEM. Whether or not you believe in a god you can acknowledge how special and valuable this experience is.

Christians who get caught in this dilemma don't notice that Christianity is presenting a contradiction which you must solve.

@Our Savior So, God had 400 years to deal with the Canaanites before his people arrived to inherit the promised land. This is what I would have done. In that 400-year time, I would have cut the water supply down to the point that would cause the inhabitants to have to relocate to other regions, far away from Canaan. Then, when the Israelites arrived, I would have made water more plentiful for my chosen people to flourish. Instead, what God actually did was to allow the original inhabitants to flourish in Canaan, only to be literally hacked up to pieces by the Israelite armies. So, why didn't God think of my plan? Is it because he isn't smart enough? Was it because he is inept? Was it because he was still learning to be God? Was it because he just didn't care? Was it because he wanted to prove a point at the expense of the Canaanites? Or was it because he is evil and immoral? Oh wait, maybe this God actually doesn't exist and none of this really happened. Now, there's a possibility.

The guy at 11:36 is missing the point, but in a way it's not totally his fault. Cliff is saying that matter and energy are not eternal, but the mind behind their creation is eternal. That is how you can get "something from nothing". In his mind, "nothing" only encompasses matter and energy, but nothing doesn't encompass God. . While there was no matter or energy before creation, God--the transcendent being who is outside of space, time, and matter--did exist from eternity. It's a fine distinction but one that I didn't hear Cliff make as clearly as he could have. Christian apologist Frank Turek gives a bit more detail with this argument that might help the young man understand: Turek says that space, time, and personal attention did have a beginning and were created, but the being that creates space, time, and personal attention was space less, timeless, and the embodiment of personal attention....and that being is the one and only one uncreated thing: the "prime mover" posited by Aristotle and fleshed out as the God of the Bible by Aquinas. That is God and nothing comes before him or created him. If we think about it, that actually is the most common sense explanation. . Every other theory relies on "it was all an accident and we have no idea how it got here" which is kind of depressing because it makes the whole struggle of survival and thriving boil down to basically a futile gesture that ultimately has no purpose or meaning.... a cold, dark universe that will burn out after quintillions of years and no one and nothing will care that we were ever here or that anything we did was in any way special or meaningful. It also dispenses with ultimate justice, in that a person born into a low station who is used, abused, and left to rot has no hope for the future: it's all just mindless suffering at the hands of those who are more powerful and cruel. That person has no reason to believe that their lot will ever improve or that they will receive justice for what was done to them. Christianity says the opposite: the righteous judge of the universe will restore justice and equity, if not in this life, then certainly in the next. Much more hopeful for those who have no power and no prospects here in this life.

Allow me to start out with a few questions. Why doesn't the universe appear to be intelligently designed to people who actually study the universe? Why isn’t intelligent design an established theory in science? Are you proclaiming that you know more than any of the leading cosmologists in modern time? “While there was no matter or energy before creation…” You apparently have not heard of virtual particles. I invite you to research this topic. You may learn a lot if you keep an open mind of what science tells us. “God--the transcendent being who is outside of space, time, and matter--did exist from eternity.” You are making a baseless assertion here. There is no way you can demonstrate this. You see, a lot of folks define a god into existence. And when they do, they give this god attributes like being capable of creating a universe. They also define this god as being necessary to our very existence. Then they look around and see the universe and they see their existence, and they say that is proof of his existence. This is so circular, it should make anyone dizzy. “That is God and nothing comes before him or created him.” Wait, you don’t know this. This is yet another baseless assertion. Why the special pleading? If this god could have always been here, why couldn’t the universe have always been here? Why are you limiting the cause of the universe and you are not limiting the cause of god? “Every other theory relies on ‘it was all an accident and we have no idea how it got here…’" No, this is a false dichotomy. You are making the argument that either god created everything or everything came about by accident. You obviously have not come prepared, have you? The universe could have come about by NATURAL means. There are many theories in science that details possible origins of the universe that do not violate any known laws of physics and do not require a creator. The Big Bang could have just been the start of our local universe, which is theorized as being part of a bigger cosmos that has always existed. That is just one of many ideas that is currently being observed, calculated, and modeled. Just because we have not yet figured out which theory describes the actual origin, we shouldn’t just throw up our hands and say a sky daddy did it. “it makes the whole struggle of survival and thriving boil down to basically a futile gesture that ultimately has no purpose or meaning…” As for me, I’m good with the fact that there is no ultimate purpose or meaning to it all. That just makes the only life we are sure we have just that much more meaningful. We all make our own meaning, there doesn’t have to be an ultimate meaning. “Christianity says the opposite: the righteous judge of the universe will restore justice and equity, if not in this life, then certainly in the next…” Let’s be honest here, you really don’t know if this is true. You believe it to be so because you want it to be true, and it offers a great appeal. And besides, if this god of the bible is real, I classify him as being a moral thug. But that is a topic for another discussion.

You're making a fallacious argument from consequence. You don't like the consequences of a secular worldview, so you don't accept it. Thats irrational. It's the same as if I said that I don't want to be accountable to the Christian God, therefore it's not true. That's irrational. You've got a pessimistic mindset.
