I spent a good chunk of my primary years in England and then stayed in American schools for my middle school years. the funny part about this is that one time when I was new to a school, one of the girls came up to me and claimed I had an aussie accent and asked if I lived there... I have not. this is the day I understood exactly where that "aussies are just British Texans" meme came from. this interaction has put a good gaslighting idea in my head of me just learning to use subtle aussie slangs to make people think I've been there.

OH MY GOSH YES my little sister used to watch peppa pig nonstop from diapers to 6 years old and during that time (and two years after that) she would have a pretty prominent British accent that my parents would tease her for. She’s 11 now, but she still has a subtle accent on certain words. (We are not from British descent at all, she was born into an American-English speaking household)

I got mine a British accent from growing up with the BBC so tv British Generally I sound English, but not knowing all the British words I to can only fake it so long but if I lived another life I'd love to live in the country side outside of London pretty much to go native and gain the true accent lol also the deeper it is the more I love it like barely English speakeing Irish and Australians sound so cool to me

oh i did the finding a summery of a chapter/story thing for years. i was in a class wear we were learning like greek myths and history, reading like the illiad and shit like that. i dont think i ever took my book out of my backpack. just checked what chapter we had to read for that day, watch a summery of it and answer a work sheet and then i was done. half the time i did it the day before or even the day off. as far as i know nobody knew and i passed. we didnt use grades and such but my teacher never brought up my performance and when id make a joke related to the story it seemed like i actually read it lol. ive never told anybody this but now thats i havent been in that class since like early 2020 i think im safe and can probbaly spill the beans

The Yugioh cards one reminds me of two stories from childhood. Once i found 100 dollars on the ground in a bodega and my stepmoms Sister claimed to be missing 100 so everyone accused me of stealing. My dad was the only one to defend me which was rare for him. The other is when i was in 3rd or 4th grade we went on a trip to the botanical gardens and my mom gave me 10$ but insisted i only use it to get flowers for her or bring it back. The other kids were buying cute Toys and teasing me so i Broke and bought a hackysack. Well my mom was furious with me she screamed at me and then we waited for her now exhusband to come home and i was stripped to my underwear, put in prayer position, my mom held down my arms and my "step-dad" whipped me. I still remember how painful it was and being screamed at that if i cried or was too loud and someone heard i would be beaten even worse. After the beating the took the toy and intended to throw it away but instead gave it to a neighbor. I was also then grounded until further notice. I don't really remember the days after that just the pain for awhile.

Honestly yeah, I feel like we give way too much sympathy to people in the caretaker role. I'm not saying they don't have it rough sometimes, they definitely do. But so often, movies and tv shows portray them as some sort of martyrs and the disabled person as a burden they have to bear.

Her sister wasn't just dumb, she was selfish. I was just talking generally. But I do think that the original commenter has a valid point in the fact that OP did choose (though out of obligation) to do this, and as much as it sucks, she can't let resentment over her own choice fester.

So yes, OP chose to set herself/himself on fire, and then bitch about how unfair it is. OP just wants to be the martyr. Don't pretend that this isn't OP's choice to do so. I am the caregiver for my elderly father. I won't pretend it isn't a great burden at times. I could put him in a nursing home, but I won't do that. He wants to die at home and not in some hospital. I am going to give him that dignity. I'm not going to bitch and moan "Oh, woah is me! I can't do anything because I have to take care of my father." That is my choice to do so. OP made his/her choice. OP can also choose to walk away from that situation at any time and move back across the country and get another job.
