OMG the chewing!!! That's so true! I can't focus if the person I'm eating with doesn't chew with their mouth closed! It is such a pet peeve of mine and sooo many people make noise when they chew or chew with their mouth open. My parents were always making sure we had proper manners at the table and chewed with our mouths closed. I'm the same way with my kids. I'm not sure if it is cultural or what (and I don't want to generalize) but I feel like Europeans are better at teaching their kids proper eating etiquette. My dad is from Spain and mom is from Puerto Rico. I grew up in Venezuela but all the family I had in Venezuela were from different parts of Europe (there are very few of us who were born in Venezuela.) Both my parents were on our case about chewing properly and having proper manners. In my experience (again, I hate generalizing but this is just my experience), if I had to rank the table manners of the places I've lived at or visited for an extended period of time, Europe (in general, not just Spain) would get 1st place, Venezuela would get 2nd place and the US would get 3rd place (I've lived in the US for over 2 decades.) I know everyone is different and I love the US and Venezuela so it isn't my intention to offend anyone, but that's what I've observed. After all these years, I still can't get over the fact there isn't a phrase in English like "bon appetite" to say to people before we start eating. I feel so rude not saying anything. Luckily for me, we speak 3 languages at home so we always say it in either one of the 2 languages we speak (otherwise It feels rude to start eating without saying anything. You would think I would be used to it by now but I'm not lol.) I also live in a very multicultural area of the US so when we say "bon appetite" or the same thing in different languages, people are used to it.

Calabrese! My husband and I were lucky enough to go to Italy for the first time this past spring - we started in Rome, then to Napoli, then the Amalfi coast, then we took a train to Calabria and visited the village where my Italian grandfather came from (he came to the New World in the early 1900s). Barely anyone spoke English there, and I never learned Italian, so it was interesting...but we managed to get by, and the medieval village was gorgeous! I walk with a cane now, so I didn't get the chance to see all of it, because there was a lot of steep hills, and it was a bit rainy, so the streets were a little slippery. I hope I could go back again someday, and have the chance to see it again, and the castle at the top of it!

I don't think that's how it starts. from context it seems Carlo genuinely doesn't know they are asking about his girth, and I think the beginning doesn't quite match with all the "th" mouth shapes. I think she is saying "they are asking if your **** is big" or maybe "i'm gonna tell them your **** is big". her mouth stays open for most of the first half, which makes me lean towards the second option.
