Asking people "What was the best selling car in 2023?"

The Tesla Model Y sold 1.22 million units worldwide in 2023, but not many people seem to know this. The Toyota RAV4 sold 150k LESS than the Tesla, even though it's half the price.
What was interesting, on and off camera, was the misunderstanding around Teslas and EVs-and also how many people have seen the recent media reports about sales dropping 🙃

It’s still unreal how strong the mainstream media propaganda is. Tesla brought the cost of a battery down from $28 000 USD/pack in 2012 to $5000 in 2024 and it’s still falling. As great as EVs are today, they are only going to get better and less expensive in the coming months and years. As far as actually having to replace the battery, it’s a very uncommon situation. Either the vehicle is older with 500 000km or more on it or it has been in an accident. These batteries (that are covered by warranty to over 125 000km) are basically bulletproof for longevity.

Tesla owner here. The sooner Australia and New Zealand get some ev battery tech shops in abundance - like America and Europe, the better. It appears to me, that most EV battery faults are merely a component or module that can be rectified at the fraction of a whole battery cost.

Tesla are hands down the best company to deal with. My advice to anyone interested in trying: Don’t test drive because you’ll want one!! Don’t believe all the naysayers. I put off for years test driving one, and I knew I would regret it. And I did... Sigh. I've managed to resist though because I have a pretty young Alfa Romeo thats still a lovely thing and great car to have as my last ICE - and I'll be keeping it for a while yet as I only do about 4000kms a year in our car - I cycle to work! I sometimes almost wish I did a lot of kms (not really...) so I could justify the Tesla!

People concerns about replacing battery but in fact you wouldn't pay 30k just to get your 30 may 40km range back from degration. I would say for MY even it degrades to 300km range maybe after few hundred thousand, it's still way enough for my daily driving.

I recently bought a model 3 with 100,000 on it. I would have never done that if it were a gas car. I have always been against getting used cars but with evs having no maintenance I wasn’t worried if the oil changes have been done or such. I have had no issues and it was the best 17K I’ve ever spent.

We are creatures of habit. Older people never knew anything else than ICE. When the first wave of EV's came (LEAF, Imev, Zoë, ...) the cars could do 100 km at best. Because it was new, it got a lot of press attention and that idea still sticks to peoples minds : EV's don't go far, the batteries wear out after a year and Tesla is a bit better but way to expensive. And because EV's were out there but ICE had no mandatory end date, they were just a novelty which they had no further interest in. Don't forget : We like our EV's , we know lots about them , follow development,... The 'normal' people juse a car the same way they use their coffee machine : it serves a purpose. My Nespresso machine just makes coffee. It has no milk frother, cup warmer,... because I just want a simple coffee , that's all. Same with cars. For most people they either just buy the next Corolla, and be on their way. The only options they might be interested in (Airco, parking sensors, satnav ) are standard in every car these days anyway. The shit started to hit the fan when EV's (Or better : Non-ICE vehicles) became mandatory by the goverments. That was the moment EV haters started to show up everywhere. I think it isn't the EV's per se they hate, but the EV represents their government restricting their freedom to buy what they want and they can't do anything about it. In their minds thousends of children die in lithium mines , after 100km the battery is empty and wil probably explode, these cars all cost $100.000 and after 4 years you must buy a new battery costing $25.000 (if it hadn't exploded by then) I still regularly get the "a Tesla... you won the lottery?" "My diesel goes 900 kilometers" "are you not afraid it will go up in flames" "I love the sound of a V8" kind of comments.

It’s interesting that so many said they are too expensive. We bought a new 2023 model y long range (red with tow hitch) in September 2023 for $48,600 USA dollars with $7500 tax credit and $2500 state rebate that brought our cost down to 38,600. The cost of a 3 year old model 3 with about 15,000 to 35,000 mile is running from $25,500 to 30,000 in US dollars.

That's gold mate. Shows how ignorant some people are about EV's. The slowdown in sales is all media FUD and hearsay. The stockpile in Melbourne was due to BioSecurity issues and Tesla is keeping some in stock to get vehicles to customers quicker instead of waiting upwards of 3 months for delivery. Goes to show we need someone to step in and provide (like yourself) more of an understanding of what EV's are all about. The battery issue is also FUD, these can be recycled but there hardly is any available to recycle because their battery degradation is minimal. No one seems to be optimistic anymore, always looking for the downside to everything, could be a generalisation, but...

Nice video Ryan! There were just a few times in the video where I wish you corrected them. Starting off the 2nd interview you the two gentleman. That review was from car expert, and it was completely bs. Charging up to 100 percent every time on more chargers priced for 70 CENTS A KILOWATT. Absolute bs. And that’s where they are brain washing people. And with the old guy in the red Chevy talking about production pollution. I would say if, they can swap the batteries easily in the future and I hope they could recycle those, then i would consider the tesla, I like the cars, the design, simplicity, minimalist, the technology, and Elon, but right now, I'm sticking with my ranger, I would love to have a real Tesla dealership in our country (Philippines), at the moment we have the made for China models, but the infra is not yet ready as well as the supply chain.
