The stability heritage and community Guy blatantly just dog whistle I'm a racist because that's exactly what those words mean in conservative times on the wise he would be a left wing where stability heritage and community basically mean actually building the community rather than keeping foreigners out of it. I think you've got to be some kind of cold bastard to talk to these people without beating the s*** out of them as in literally beating them so hard they s*** themselves and then you film it and you put that on KZbin and yes I just called you a cold-hearted bastard for not doing that because you see I'm engaging in the Tory method of left wing where I just say the opposite of what is true and both people go along with the mythology. It's cruel to feed starving people and it's cruel to not actually come to think of it I'm kind of stepping on Joe Lycett toes at the moment I'll just leave it there

@@xMrjamjam I guarantee that you will find narcissists on both sides. It's not unique to either side. I personally know narcissists on the left and on the right. A lack of emotional intelligence is also not unique to the right. There are plenty of leftists who could not read the room, to save themselves. In my view, in this current environment, it's narcissistic for anyone to expect the state to subsidise so much of their existence. Because it implies that everyone else owes them something, that they're entitled to something that isn't theirs. Ideally, if they can, everyone must contribute something. It's not a free-for-all, and no society that functioned like that ever survived. By the same token, you could say that it's narcissistic not to care about the wellbeing of your fellow man, while only thinking of benefitting yourself. Which is certainly a fair point as well. See how it works both ways? It's all relative, and is best measured against what is fair and reasonable, according to what shared social values underpin a particular society. Everywhere is different. Japan is different to Saudi Arabia is different to Brazil is different northwestern Europe.

The most frustrating thing is these Conservatives who justify their allegiance with reasons such as 'community'. You can be left wing and support that. In fact, I'd argue that it's impossible to call yourself left wing if you don't believe in community. It's only the "libertarian" anti-tax, small state Tories who are opposed to a more communal ideology - because they're doing well and don't want to have to share some of their wealth. As for 'pride in our nation', I'd be a lot more proud of our country if this party hadn't taken it down such an abhorrent route over the past 12 years.

I know this opinion will be unpopular here, but there is a flip side. The flip side though is that it can be a preventive measure. Dylan Roof, who damaged his brain chemistry with drug use, became a racist and shot up a Church Congregation trying to start a race war is one good example; another one is the Danish deviant inventor who had slicing fetishes and killed a woman, and then later escaped prison for awhile. In both cases it was quite clear who did what, and in both cases it was perhaps a good idea not to allow them to potentially escape from prison and kill more people. Of course there are plenty of reasons to dislike it, and I understand, but then I am not saying it should be constant or used in remotely grey area type cases. I just think it might be (not definitely, but might be) worth having in cases like that.

@MrMyers758
@MrMyers758 Жыл бұрын
@@Dan_1348 Death penalty is not banned because of its proportionality, it is banned due to it being irreversible in the event that an innocent person is sentenced. It was literally triggered off the back of multiple cases of wrongful sentencing and executions, due to bad policing. You can argue all you want that because of DNA etc that it is basically impossible to not catch the killer, but that all depends on the police being truthful about how they obtained it and the details of their investigations, which still to this day is steeped in corruption. That's not even taking into consideration the legitimately widespread things such as kudos and promotions for investigators who get confessions without evidence, and the lower standard for evidence when a confession is present. These issues aren't going to get better without police reforms, and even then you can never be 100% certain. Then we can have the argument about what the point of sentencing is to the criminal. Is it meant to be punishment or for rehabilitation? Well as punishment it isn't really universal is it? Many killers kill themselves afterwards to avoid prison time, or attempt suicide when caught, so it would seem that in many cases a death sentence is less of a punishment. If our aim is to rehabilitate then the death sentence isn't really a discussion is it. The only time the death sentence would be a thing in a world where the justice system concentrated on rehabilitation was if someone is un-rehabilitatable, in which case no crime would receive that sentence unless a prosecutor is able to prove beyond reasonable doubt that the criminal will offend again. That further leads the system open to definite re-offenders avoiding the death sentence if they have a good enough defence to say they will not reoffend. There are just too many complications and issues with the death penalty for it to be used, regardless of how just you think it is in the instances where the accused is actually guilty. We could get into an argument about the morality of the state having the power to kill citizens who they have incarcerated, but we really don't need to. Purely from a pragmatic view and the view of "we don't want innocent people to be killed" we can just leave it there.

Just like the man extolling the virtues of British history, I suppose it's alright to inherit wealth, benefit from nepotism and be proud of the resulting accomplishments. @@TheModicaLiszt It's quite simple. If you do not want to be perceived as an evil oppressor, then don't engage in activities that serve to oppress people. Take responsibility for your actions and work towards positive change. The problem is not that the Conservative Party are trying to avoid being viewed as oppressors. They are too concerned with their own self interest and that of their financial backers. I am thankful that I could be in school until 18 and go to university essentially for free, and my Dad from Ireland left school at 14 to work on a farm. Even though I’m from a poor background, I am given much more chance for work and for a positive life standard than most other countries, and so my Dad and I wouldn’t ourselves “oppressed”.

My father also started work around the ages of around 12-14, I went through full time education and university (in Ireland). There's common ground between us. We have had these opportunities and I also don't consider myself to be oppressed (Yet! We'll see what winter brings), but I don't turn a blind eye to the oppression and suffering of others simply because I'm doing relatively well. That's the point I was making in my initial comment. Financially I might not be oppressed, but as a person who identifies as being queer the comments made in the video are oppressive. People in the shops I visit, the nurses in my local medical practice, families (especially single parent families) and elderly people at my local library or community hubs are all being oppressed by the government's decisions in Westminster. People with disabilities or specific caring needs, such as my dad who sustained a neurological injury, are really struggling and the reality is many will not survive into the new year. There might be an abundance of opportunity but how many people does someone have to step over on the way to financial success?
