Jeff, you are a treasure. You re-energize old memories of my youth. In the mid 70's I had a co-worker who had a placer claim on top of Arizona's Rich Hill in the Weaver mountains of lower Yavapai County Arizona. He invited me to accompany him to his claim for a day's panning and fun. He blasted a very large rock out of a recess which yielded some color. A hard days (7 hours) work yielded me about a $4.50. It wasn't the gold, it was the FINDING of the gold that generates gold fever. Knowing that this is the first time in the history of the world that human eyes have gazed upon those particular fragments of gold or they wouldn't have been there. I'm 80 today and still love it. Thank you for this.

Jeff, I grew up in the Mother Lode east of Sacramento. I was graduated from high school and college before I realized that I didn't really know what stream course that had not been prospected looked like. In many of the major rivers and creeks, there can be more than 20 or 30 feet of missing bed load. Yet, you can still take a crevice tool, pull the sand out of crevices in the rock in the channel and pan good color.

I've done some prospecting on my own in the Gold Mountains (Zlate Hory) of northern Moravia where they had found one of the largest ever chunks of Gold and donated it to Emperor Rudolf 2. My knowledge back then consisted of just books and I was using a wok to pan. Found nothing, but it was interesting.

Well Uncle Jeff, I’ve got an update from my last comment. That pay streak I told you about is producing big flakes now! I also found chunks of meta-sandstone that had nice quartz crystal attached, which I’m betting is from the vein where that gold was originally deposited. A fair bit of hematite is popping up too. I’m going to move upstream and see if I can find the source next. Crazy to think that this isn’t even a documented gold producing region!

The fact that there's a heap and leach pad oughta tell ya that it'll be really small gold. We used to get the nugget effect once in a while during titration, but again, there's the corrugated tunnel that will collect gold you can snipe up. That's why it so important you use a small corrugated tube to reduce panning time by 80%. It needs to be elevated and turned by bending it to corkscrew downwards, the inside bend won't let you down and the tube is free at the auto parts because people throw it away. I've never lost any fine gold. Try it once, I know you got it.

thanks ...we will try that

00:47 That gray object just has to be one of those modern gold magnets. 15:23 Jeff didn't you see the giant sluice behind you? Those grooves in those culverts have gold in them too. There is a Guy on You Tube that was showing this. Think his channel name is Goldpan and Suntan and I think he is in NM, and he was near Placer Mountain and in his video, he sampled a culvert like this one in your video, but it was dry. He also sampled at each end of a concrete tube under a road near the same mountain at the edges of the concrete floor. He found some gold. Noticeable on his zoom or close up camera.

My nephew with 20 others guys climbed an hour up steep terrain in the Philippines and dug a tunnel into the mountain side. They brought out 300 bags of dirt weighing 70 lbs or so since April. They took it to have it processed with cyanide. They ended up with 168 grams of gold. I don't know if that's good or bad, but I hope to take a gold detector to the main river there in December. I need a collapsible one I can get in my suitcase like a Notka brand. Thanks for the great videos.
