I had a rock pigeon in my care for about 6 months, while it recovered from pmv, I was convinced it was a female, only to realise my mistake soon as she/he was released, and started chasing everything around with a tail, dancing, cooing and fighting all the other males in the flock lol Its really hard to tell male from female, unless they are paired up, and then it's a lot easier to tell, by the way they behave 💗🐦💗

My bird is a very spoiled bird and loves her treats. My question is, how many nuts are to much? She has a very good apatite and loves to eat.

I think male wood pigeons have a more bulbous head dolphin like with the forehead curving in more

Thanks for the information. I have two rescue pigeons and this was very helpful. I do have a question...one of my pigeons, I believe female, spins around, jumps on her dish and slaps me with her wings every time I reach in to either add food or remove the dish to clean it. Once she gets the food she is a happy girl and enjoys her meal. Is this a territorial thing or does she just hate my hand? Just wondering what your thoughts are on this behavior.

Off subject but I’m a new diamond dove owner, a month into it. Do u cover them up at night? I thought u did but as of last night I stopped. I think covering them up was scarring them. Got up and blood splattered all over. This has been going on since I got them but was pretty bad the other night. Last night I left the cover off and they were fine. Also do they need a night light on at night? I heard they did. Thanks

Gosh Im sorry to hear your bird was injured. He may have panicked in the dark as they dont see well. Unless you keep them in a light bright lounge where everyone hangs out with the lights on until late (not ideal) then you dont need to cover them. I dont cover my birds, they get used to the idea its bedtime as the light coming in the window gets darker, that way they get used to the light reducing slowly. Try leaving the cover off and putting them to bed in a quieter room by a window with natural light and see how that works out. Good luck!

Hey I have a question, how do I get my two pigeons (male and female) to stop hating eachother? Lol. I recently rescued a racing pigeon and before then I had a female pigeon I rescued names clancy for a year. And she is confirmed female. The new pigeon, I’m almost certain is a male. He is HUGE in comparison and bigger nostrils too. I was hoping they would be mates but boy was I wrong. Anyways, she absolutely despises him 😭 she thinks I am her mate and she is jealous of him or thinks he’s an intruder. She attacks him, but it’s not good cause she is fiesty, but he is way bigger and stronger. I noticed he tries to show off around her but she just attacks him. Poor guy, he is frustrated. I keep them in the same room but I let them out at separate times so they don’t kill eachother. I sometimes let them out at same time while supervised and they actually calm down after taking baths. But man is she a crazy girl haha. She keeps laying unfertilized eggs too. She is so silly she thinks they will hatch 🤦♀️.. she humps my foot like a male… maybe their personalities don’t match up either. She is too crazy and he is too chill.

They sound like the perfect match 😂 I'm guessing they will soon get to like eachother, with a bit of time 😎
