I love my feral pigeons and I give them what they need to have happy lives. I have my winter feed in mind at the moment and am not sure what to do to increase the calories to keep them warm. I get a 20kg bag when I need it and I feed on a roof outside my flat, I feed foxes and feral cats too but they are on the ground. I have feeders for the smaller birds but pigeons are even cleverer than my lone squirrel and know that tipping them makes the seeds come out. The garden has all kinds of birds and animals so the roof is ideal as they happily sunbathe and preen and stuff. Luckily my roof doesn't affect any neighbours (cross your fingers) I don't think predatory birds come on my roof as I have a cat who doesn't go outside till night. I do look out for ailments and sickness. Thank you for your great videos.

Adding some additional oily seeds to a standard pigeon mix will provide additional fat and energy for the coldest winter months :-)

No one keep them, they live and struggle them selves, they are very strong and immunity and they fly very far for food, and there speed is amazing not like our fancy pegion. If season of disease fancy pigeon die , but street rock survive

I have a question/request!! Would you ever be willing to give a tour of your own pigeon enclosure/set up? I am preparing to adopt a “married couple” and want to set up the enclosure to be stimulating and fun for them. (Their cage will be 38” x 75”)

Thanks so much for this series, I've learned so much. My question is about dovecotes. I see them from time to time but apparently just as uninhabited ornamental structures. If I were to build a dovecote in my garden, how could I encourage the pigeons to come and live in it?

Dont waste your time with her !! Everytime you ask a question, well she never answers !! Never!! And its a bit rude and awkward !! Crazy pigeon lady !!! Pfffff !!! Crazy alright !!

Dovecotes are pretty but not particularly safe for the birds. Once predators find out about them they can fall prey to attack repeatedly. If you have space for a flock, a well built loft/aviary with good foundations would be the best kind of accommodation :-)

Can a pigeon with one eye survive in a busy town? Ive had him for 4 years and every time time the wild ones come to eat he puffs up and talks and wants to go outside. I live in Las Vegas and I’m afraid he will be hit my a car since he only has one eye.He breaks my heart, what do I do? Thank you Tonya
@thecrazypigeonlady87312 жыл бұрын
Having 1 eye would definitely put him at a disadvantage in an already challenging emvironment. You may want to consider getting him a pigeon friend if hes craving the company of his own kind. Thank you for caring for him :-)

@@thecrazypigeonlady8731 He has 2 females in the room with him. One is Walter pigeon and the other is turd bird. Turd bird is very mean so I keep beak in a cage. Its enormous. He gets breaks to come out when i take turd bird out of there. Turd bird is at least 8 Ive had her and Walter for 7 years. Ive only had Beak for four. I also have a pigeon that Ive had almost a year. I saw him in the road with cars flying over the top of him,luckily no one hit him. I got out of my car and he came running(with his wings) to me over 2 lane of traffic. I think he wa hit by a car cause his legs dont work at all. He has never been able to stand up. He can only lay on his back. I have to hand feed food and water. He is with me all the time. Its not legal to keep pigeons . The pigeon rescue i used shut down. Its even 1000.00 fine if your caught feeding them. He stays in our bedroom and i have a flexible cage that i also use so he gets some scenery. He is just the sweetest bird ever. Its hard for him to grow feathers in e he is mostly on his back. I take him out many times a day to stretch his wings. I cant even get help from animal vets, so sad. I’m doing the best I can for him and he seems very happy. One cute thing. He will do a sit up and make a circular motion with his beak and that means he wants water. I massage him after eating. He gets a little grit. I dolly feed shelled sunflower seeds so its easier on his system. Thank you for the reply. Its so nice to talk to a person who likes pigeons as much as i do.

Is there anything I can do to get my pigeon to let me touch it? I've fed it from my hand for about a week straight now, had the birds going on week 3 and it still won't let me touch it. I feel bad because I'll need to be able to pick it up to put on a harness it let it out of its cage, but it just freaks out when i go to touch it.

Be gentle but persistent, keep up with the hand feeding. It can take patience to win them over. Many pigeons dont like hands. Try making soft pigeon sounds at them (check out my video 'how to speak pigeon' on the pigeocation playlist) I hope to finish the pets series with an episode of bonding with a pet pigeon :-)
