Speak up /to them /ask them why they react that way. Might just be an automatism and they don't even really know why they start making fun of others. If they are able to reflect on themselves and their behaviour - great, all of you learned something and have grown. If they don't and (act like) they don't even care - maybe it is time for some reflection yourself: what are you getting out of your relationship? Is it a balanced friendship - do you get as much as you give? Do they represent values you want to be associated with you? Do they move in the same direction as you are or are they empowering you? Now, let's be clear: Don't let me, a random guy from the internet tell you to cut ties with your peers. But I think there is not really any argument against asking yourself some important questions and answering to yourself truthfully. In case the answers disappoint - it is not easy, but in the long run it is always worth it to take the right path.

I've almost universally had people in a professional context praise silence and thoughtfulness. My first instinct which may be wrong is that it seems like either they're not feeling like your silence creates a valuable result based on what you say or they're being jerks.

For me, when I pause for a moment in a conversation with my friends or colleagues, they take that opportunity to simply cut me off (I think I need new friends 😉)

Pausing signals to the other person that it's their turn to speak or that you don't have an answer. It really doesn’t work in most conversation unless you verbally prep the asker or clearly use gestures.

Hi Vinh, quick question. There are many times i know that a strategy would result in disaster (not immediate) but it would have a domino effect and things do down the drain. Yes it has happened on multiple occassions. But i have never been able to answer the question "why do you say that?" Or "what makes you think that?" I know the results purely because of previous experience combined with information overload and strategic thinking. But i have never been able to present my thoughts to the listener Nd then they regret not listening. I dont want them to regret and want to be able to explain myself better. I know that my communication hinders me a lot and i would not have to face difficult situations if only i could communicate better in the moment. How would one go about doing that?
