What will happen to Deafhood when technology far surpasses the need remain deaf? How many will want to hear the rain? Imagine in a couple years when cochlear implants not only provide perfect hearing, but can translate in real time all human languages. Being that deafness is only one generation thick, the Deaf population is going to disappear into a tiny minority on the edge of extinction. All sign language should be preserved for a time everyone can instantly upload and understand sign language as a useful alternative language in certain situations. Verbal languages themselves could become rarely used when technological telepathy becomes the norm. Luckily AI will be able to learn all sign language.
