He's an entertainment channel and focuses upon his clichés of `'quirks and features" and doesn't give anything more than surface level access to cars on his channel. Thin with stats and anything related to long-term. Heavy on entertainment.

Regarding Fisker and the lack of 4G service - Navigation in a car does not operate via WiFi/Internet/4G (like it does in cell phone), rather, it work through satellite. WiFi or internet would be needed to update maps or for real-time traffic updates, but basic navigation only needs satellite.

@@Aslash304 I am not sure if they would be great sellers in the USA, but there is a dedicated cult around "muscle wagons" (see how much the CTS-V wagon is loved, and how they are appreciating). But I would think that European sales could prop up an estate car, and the States could enjoy the benefits from it. You're likely right though, I guess just on American sales it would not be profitable.

the argument of planning for a person with home charger sounds just crazy. it's opposite. connecting your car is a 10 sec activity. probably 60 times faster than visiting petrol station.

Agreed. With our previous car I was always “too busy” to stop at a gas station until the light came on. Then on road trips we usually forgot to fill up the day before so we’d start the day at the gas station. Day to day with our EV we charge at home and I never go out of my way to recharge.

Concur, this is just nonsense. I am at 80% every morning. If I suddenly go on a long trip, no issue. Yesterday I took my ICE vehicle (needed to keep Fisker clean as front end being wrapped tomorrow.) and had to specifically drive to a gas station to fill up before trip as it turned out we were almost on E to start. Would have been nice to always be at 'full'... I am sick of going to get gas, what a complete waste of time.

Chapter 11 is a reorganization, not a liquidation. The company gets financing from financial sponsors (usually distressed hedge funds). It's called DIP (debtor in possession) financing. Employees are paid a special type of salary to keep the lights on. It could convert to a chapter 7, however.

Well done Adam. Good info. You covered a lot. Road trips in the Ocean are possible. We drove our FOU from CA to Utah and back. Our only issue was a non-functional Shell ReCharge level 2 charger not working. But the car did great. Still waiting for 2.2.

Prologues are having really great lease deals - in 3 years when the leases are sone the depreciation on these cars will be devastating - Honda just moved the problem for 3 years

You know way more about this than I do, so this may be a great place to ask. If the new Hyundai/Kia products come with NACS built in, isn’t that more limiting than having a CCS port with an adapter to use at a Tesla charger? Would you need a CCS adapter now to get the full speed that the Hyundai products can charge at? I have heard that Tesla chargers limit the charging speed of non Teslas, so how is this a benefit? I would think having a CCS port with a Tesla adapter would be the better way to go. Having access to the stations is good, but losing the charging speed would make the very fast charging unavailable. Can a CCS adapter even handle that amount of power going through it reliably? Hopefully I’m making sense.

The adapter doesn’t slow CCS charging. The j3400 sae standard (formerly the Tesla plug) used to have to use the motor inverter in the Hyundai to step down the voltage at a Tesla charger. Since the port hardware is new, it’s likely Hyundai has found a hardware solution for the slow Tesla charger speeds as well. It was always a Hyundai hardware compatibility issue, not a Tesla limiting issue. I hope this helps.

Doug explained that he drives cross country several times a year and drives far distances to do car reviews - he is not willing to do the extra time needed for charging on these type trips - - EVs make the most sense for people who have home charging and do not take a lot of long trips

Funny story for me. I placed my order on Aug 25 and then nothing. So I followed up with an email asking for an update last week and got an auto-response saying they would reply in 1-3 days. Yesterday I replied to that email saying I would dispute the charge if I didn’t get shipping confirmation by Friday. And today? Shipping confirmation email!

Fisker IS NOT SHIPPING THEM, wallbox is. Simple search of the bankruptcy docs will show you that Fisker never paid wallbox for them. Yes you used Fisker through the ordering process but the money and shipping went out by wallbox and they addressed this question. They had no idea Fisker was selling them in a fire sell from wallbox warehouse in Arlington tx. Contact wallbox.

@Adam, I’ve asked this question on Hyundai focused forums but not gotten a definitive answer so I’ll see if you have more: does Hyundai have an agreement with Tesla to enable charging on Superchargers? Having the J3400 port is, technically speaking, no different than CCS with an adaptor. It’s legal agreements and software patches that actually enable non-Tesla cars to charge on the Supercharger network.

Follow up question based on that page explicitly calling out, “Hyundai EVs with NACS ports will gain access,” I didn’t see any mention of enabling non-NACS cars so is that still a given? EDIT: never mind me. Just reread it and saw where it says, “current CCS will have access to the Tesla Supercharging Network starting in Q1 2025.”

Drove from coastal CA to Park City this summer with no issues charging, etc. Understand you had a terrible experience with yours, but in my year of ownership - it's been wonderful.

6:16 Sorry, but i dont understand what you mean here. How does the Ioniq 5 make the GR series of toyotas irrelevant? A GR86/Supra is a 2 door RWD coupe (one powerful and expensive and the other less powerful and inexpensive). The Ioniq 5 does not hold a candle to those cars. The 5N is a great car that I'm a huge fan of, but let's not get delusional here, it costs $70k, its huge, it has low range, and its not even a fraction as engaging as as a GR86 is. Please don't write my comment off as some anti-EV hater, recognize that what you just said is ridiculous and admit that there are still segments of the market that EVs cant reach yet.

@@Aslash304 There aren't any mass produced GR cars that are faster than the Ioniq 5N. But again, the GR cars are enthusiast cars. I own an Elantra N, it's a great car and every action I take in it feels very connected to the vehicle itself. It's only around $35k. It isn't made irrelevant by the Ioniq 5N in any way though, in the same way that a GR Supra isn't made irrelevant by a Porsche 911 GT3. Obviously a GT3 is a track machine that can go around the Nurburgring insanely fast, but it also fills a different market. The person buying a GT3 isn't also cross-shopping a GR86, an Elantra N, a GR Supra, and an Ioniq 5N. That GT3 is in a different class. A better comparison: Say someone wants a driver focused vehicle: a Miata. That person probably will not end up buying a GTR, even though the GTR is faster around a race track. The Miata is an experience designed to make the driver feel like they are part of the car, it scratches an itch the GTR can't. What I'm trying to say is: to a driving enthusiast, the speed around a track doesn't matter. On top of that, we can go back to the price: A GR Supra is a car that costs about $60k, and the Ioniq 5N is an extra $10k to get a larger, heavier, less connected car albeit faster. The GR86 or GR Corolla bring about an even higher price difference, and those cars are even more driver focused than the Supra. The 5N is amazing, but it's not the defacto answer for EV sports cars, we aren't there yet.

The truth is that there is no company that is either able or willing to make a sports car that can compete with the Miata, BRZ/GR86, Elantra N, GR Corolla, Civic Type R, Golf R, etc... As for why Japan is stuck in the past with very few electric cars, it comes down to their economy: Electricity is actually one of Japans largest imports.
