I spent 6 months in Asmara ('69-'70) while stationed there with US Army Security Agency at Kagnew Station. I loved the city, the people and the restaurants. Such a delightful people; thank you so much for sharing this video. I was also a German linguist MP so I could follow along as well as reading the subtitles!

I love Asmara very much also, but some of the buildings do need renovations. I wish the government accepted the italian's help to restore the buildings. I guess Eritreans want to do thing my themselves, that's good. One day i'm going to go back and do diving in Dahlak Island.......... it's very beautiful.

@1welwel I wish my wife (the one that WASN'T with me then!) and I could afford to visit Asmara again. I've often told her about how beautiful it is there and how friendly the population was when I lived there; really miss it !

Marc, Read THE ERYTHREAN SEA. Little did you know, Asmara was ASMARA, before the Italians arrived and departed Asmara. Sure, staying 70 years in Eritrea, the Italians added more to what was ALREADY VIBRANT ERITREA.

@wedisegen I understand your humble opinion but if we accept the offer from Italians or others to renovate our home in other words that means we are admiting we are hopeless & helpless losers who can't take care our self, Which is far from our caracter.Don,t worry my young Bro/Sis. like what we did with the Eritrean Railway we are going to raise the whole country from the ashes like the phoenix.

I feel sad Europeans still entertain the idea, that the Italians had to take credit for the buildings that exist today in Asmera.It is Eritrean money,sweat and blood, just because they had the drawing does not make them owners of it.Down with colonial mentality that, blacks could not build it by them selves with out the input of colonizers.They same formula of answers for all African historic artifacts.Italians do not deserve any credit for building Asmera.It is Eritrean.They had Apartthied .

sorry for you , but without Italians there would be nothing there and if this is probably the most beatiful city in Africa the reason is because italians made it . And would be very better if Eritreans would take care of it .

Eritrea have more natural resources GOLD,petrol,1.3b ton potash ,Gold is it's best resources that why america put it's eye on the country but we eritrean never allowed forein polotics in our country,unless invester.
