Let’s look at this in a different perspective, actually difficulty is subjective. I wonder those people who heard people complaining about “bad design” or “unfair oneshot moves” in certain boss. If that individual thinks the boss is actually easy compared to others. What they can mostly say is “you gotta get better at the game and learn their moves because I have no problem with it honestly” the thing is, they probably why you are struggling in this boss when they themselves are not Also, those who said git gud isn’t really the same group of people usually. As I said, difficulty is subjective so each person has different opinion on different boss Sometimes I see people complain about command Neil, but me myself thought what’s the problem with him, just lure out two knights and kill them one by one that’s it

My main issue with the difficulty is that it's all over the place. One moment you're in a zone where you are struggling with every mob and the next moment you are breezing through it. This is kind of expected with an open world game but there are situations where it could have easily been avoided. The best example I have is going from Caelid to Nokron. Since you need to have killed Radahn to access Nokron, most players will probably have done most of Caelid before they enter Nokron, and Caelid is like twice as difficult as Nokron is.

If i've found out anything from playing Elden Ring, it's that difficulty is pretty much entirely relative. For example, I am pretty much a noob to souls games and struggled on Rykard for like 2.5 hours straight before I finally had to cheese him to kill him, but I literally killed Malenia in 4 attempts. My brother is a souls veteran, he's played every single game in the series, he 1 shot Rykard and most other bosses and spent like 4 hours straight on Malenia, dying so many times he lost count.
@cenach81452 жыл бұрын
I think the issue is that people are looking at this as a linear game. You're looking at it as "I'm in Caelid now, I must do all of Caelid then go to Nokron" when there's nothing telling you to play like that. Caelid itself has varying difficulty even within that 1 region. There's no reason why you can't just bounce back between "regions" and go back to the harder stuff later. I didn't even explore all of Caelid/Dragonbarrow until late in the game, well after I did Nokron. Redmane castle and the Radhan fight are even muuuuch easier than trying to kill the enemies in the cave that's only accessible after beating Radhan, yet that's still in Caelid. This can confuse people who look at the game linearily and figure "Well I beat Radhan, the main area boss, so therefore the rest of the area should be doable." I think a lot of people just have to unlearn how we previously played "Open world games." Ubisoft open world games and even good titles like the Witcher to an extent pretend to be "open world" yet it's really just linear in that you are REQUIRED to do certain zones before advancing to the next. Elden Ring isn't like that. The only thing that limits you is how good you are at the game. From the very start, you can easily just run to Leyndell, given that you're good enough at beating the Magma Wyrm. You don't even need to kill Godrick, Rennala, or Radhan. You can skip all of Caelid, Liurnia, and Limgrave if you really wanted. It's just that type of flexibility that people aren't used to in games.
@shika.nomura2 жыл бұрын
That's weird because I did the opposite, the game in no way was telling me I had to go there yet. The natural flow of the game said otherwise atleast in my playthrough but then again I didn't do extensive exploration until I had a solid build made or needed additional exp. The game is meant to catch you when your guard is down or when you feel as if the game is getting "easier" finally lol

The upgrade stones are a bit tedious but the main problem is the amount of weapons that become obsolete especially in late game bosses who just become too unenjoyable. What I would like to see FromSoftware do is buff weaker weapons and especially the other elements. Fire/sleep/poison/scarlet rot is incredibly underpowered compared to ice and blood.

I love some of the chat say "just get better armor/vigor", means they've clearly not played the game and just like to backseat, gotten far enough or are sarcastic. You realize at some points with the later bosses you will not survive these bosses' hits. One fix XQC mentioned I feel is reasonable is that you should feel more rewarded using better armor, which would in turn help with the difficulty towards late game. Look at all of the cool armor that exists, but is ultimately pointless when fighting against some bosses. You don't really get to highlight them when fighting against them, more like a glorified punching bag.

If I've taken my time to fight a boss or farm, getting a cool set of armor I personally think shouldn't feel like you're a stick. The armor system right now I think is "fine", especially with the accompanying gameplay with dodging and multiple attacks, combined with armor resistances, set buffs, etc - it's definitely worthwhile to equip armor. I'm just saying it could be refined or improved in a way that could be less frustrating, similar to how FromSoftwarr did with the quote on quote "difficulty scaling" people have been talking about.
@DTPandemonium2 жыл бұрын
If you die in 1 hit you don't have enough vigor, if you die in 2 hits you don't have damage reduction talismans and are fully naked. Ritual shield talisman and any of the physical damage reduction talismans are extremely strong in PvE and if you are faith you can even use black flame protection/all the elemental defense buffs. You aren't expected to find all these on your first playthrough but that's to be expected from RPGs. But even if you have the bare minimum with some armor and 40+ vigor you still can't die in 1 hit. And the armor already makes a big difference. 15% reduction from light armor vs 35-38% from heavy armors on top of the poise is insane and like I said these are without using any of the talismans and whatnot. If you are still dying in 1 hit you have ransomware in your gaming device and it is about to encrypt all your files. Or you know... you reject reality and substitute it with your own.

@nathangarcia23562 жыл бұрын
I think dunkey has a pretty good point. A lot of the endgame bosses are fun and brutally challenging in their mechanics. What feels bad is you juggle all these mechanics, time dodges, get the boss low, then can die due to a single mistake. Is Malenia one of the best boss fights I’ve ever played? Yes. Was it bullshit that I could be having an excellent attempt and then slip attention for 1 second and die from a variety of different moves? Also yes. The full whirl should kill, but only like 1/3 of the whirl needs to connect for you to die at full. 1 shots aren’t inherently bad, but when bosses have more than 1 move that can effectively 1 shot you It funnels people into using spirits just so they can avoid constant 1 shot blows. You want to put on the heaviest armor, slow roll, and tank everything? Even regular enemies in the endgame will kill you in 2-3 hits. The damage just being cut by like 20% would do wonders for allowing people to run different builds. I think people go into high damage melt boss builds because they do the same to us. I’d be fine with us getting the same damage nerf they give the bosses. Would make the combat much more fun

Balancing everything is this game's biggest flaw. The amount of runes given as a reward aren't a good gauge of enemy difficulty when higher level areas make basic enemies super difficult to deal with unless you have a broken build and barely give anything even when you kill them. Even with stats, a lot of them don't do enough to make them worth what they say they are for. None of the fall damage items are worth using (including putting points in dex if that's why you're doing it since it only changes damage and not height), it's always better to upgrade a weapon than to put more points in a stat it scales with, and different armors are barely noticeable as long as you are wearing something. I think that's why Dunkey was complaining about build variety since end game builds have clear winners and losers when everything is maxed out, despite the variety of gear to choose from. The worst part about the whole stat thing is is that even if you get a lot of vigor, late game bosses will just turn their one-shot kills into two-shot kills. This means that any boss that puts you in a position for a follow-up will still kill you as if it were a one-shot kill anyway. It almost feels like they made vigor a required stat because they made you out of wet tissue paper instead of using it as a buffer to stay in the fight longer like in previous games. You get to the boss quicker to make up for the fact that you die much quicker.

"There's too many different items to upgrade now" Asmon: You can upgrade more weapons now, back in DS you only got enough for like 2-3 (that wasn't even Dunkey's point in the first place lol). "Damage scaling is fked up" Amon: Just don't get hit by those attacks. When a character with 2000k HP, Heavy Armor and Shield, can get two shotted, you know the damage scaling is broken. Literally no other entry in the whole series forced people to pump point into Vigor to not get one shotted. Even worse, no entry in the whole series had people who maxed Vigor die in 1-2 hits. Like, Asmon saw that video of the guy showing what the max amount of HP was die in two hits from a crab. A crab. Neither Demon Souls, DS1, DS2, DS3, Bloodborne nor Sekiro has damage scaling that fkd up. Every single person I've seen, finishes the Capital without issues with 30 or less Vigor, reaches the snow area and then suddenly every enemy is one shotting them, forcing them to, for the next 30 or so levels to just put point into Vigor to stop playing on Dante Must Die difficulty, even tho everything was fine just 5 minute before, as that's how long the walk from the Capital to the snow area takes. I do agree with dunky a bit on difficulty. Endgame balancing and content has never been FromSoft's forte, except for Bloodborne but it's because that game is shorter, and it shows in this more than any other game. Also boss AI in this game can be very janky with canceling animations/recoveries and very blatant input reading where it doesn't feel like the back and forth fight in previous games and rather you just trying to outsmart a computer. I kinda disagree when it comes to past games, the more linear level design usually resulted in balanced lategames bosses and normal mobs. Of course, after the release of the DLCs for each game, the original final bosses had often become fairly easy on a full playthrough, but the base games had good progression and the DLCs themselves were well adjusted. In DS1, Gwyn is fairly easy, but he is supposed to be a shadow of his former self. All the DLC bosses are really fitting to the players end game level though. In DS2, it is similar, with all the DLC bosses (the ones that are not gank squad or twin pets, lul) being fun and fair late game challenges. For DS3, Soul of Cinder is again more of a symbolic boss, but not a pushover in the basegame. Sure, after the DLCs it has become easy, but we got great new bosses instead. I guess one could say the DLCs are the endgame, and they were usually really well balanced. Generally, when they were not, it was because it was too easy, so things being too strong is actually something new with Elden Ring. My complaint regarding that is mostly inconstency, with a few specific things feeling way harder or damaging than others in the same zone. Also, a lack of interactivity in some fights, like Malekith the Parkour Blade or Malenia's second phase. I don't enjoy watching a boss do their stuff for 8 seconds and then I'm allowed to maybe get 1 or 2 hits in.

Totally agree. The playstyle I've always used and enjoyed most in FromSoft games is dodging attacks and attacking during openings with a straight sword. I also generally put all my points into vigor and endurance but don't upgrade my weapon until I feel the damage it's dealing is becoming a joke. Elden Ring is the first FS game I've played where it feels like this playstyle is almost unworkable. Duo bosses like Valiant Gargoyles and Godskin Duo are an absolute chore playing melee in this way and I eventually ended up using summons to beat them. And while most of the late game enemies/bosses are "fair" the fact that even at 60+ vigor they can still kill you in about 2 hits max makes them ridiculously frustrating to fight. It does my head in seeing people like Asmon saying that playing melee is fine in this game while running a weapon that deals about 1/5 of a boss' health per hit. I've no problem with people playing the game using any playstyle they want but I find it crazy so many people seem to think just because they've put together an overpowered build they're somehow more skilled than someone who summons mimic tear but doesn't carve through bosses like butter.

Dunkey has a point with the damage output of some enemies. Recent souls games play more like shump level of difficulty where you'll die to anything rather than dark souls 1 or demons souls level of difficulty. Bosses now have insane combo attacks that require precise dodge times and movement if you don't want to get hit. I have to agree with Dunkey on most points here. I played through this game, I beat it, and I loved it. But I don’t think I’ll ever play it again, because by the time I got to around Godskin Duo/Malekith area of the game’s runtime, I was so sick of it. I hated that I worked so hard to upgrade my weapons, get better armor, learn new skills and ways to play, and got increasingly better at the game itself, only to be punished by the next boss’s difficulty and damage output. It was like I wasn’t making any progress at all. I wanted that feeling of accomplishment that comes with conquering a game and being skilled and powerful enough to take on any challenge the game could present. But I never got it. Because no matter how good or powerful I became, the game was always ten steps ahead and ramped up the difficulty accordingly, so that I always felt like an ant compared to my enemies. I beat it, and felt nothing, cuz any pride or satisfaction had been beaten out of me 10 hours earlier. 10/10 perfect game

Watching Asmon judge others on how they beat the game after abusing that greataxe is like watching OJ Simpson sell marriage counselling Also him talking like he knows how much u can upgrade when he isn't even in late game at the time of this recording, it is a fact that there is a hard limit on the amount of weapons you can get to +10 (special weapons that is), and that number is 8. Bearing in mind there are easily over a hundred special weapons it is not much.

You can find items in the mid game that lets you get items up to +12 I believe. You can also get special weapons to +4 too. I agree that Asmongold hasn't really thought through his argument though. The upgrade system is very stingy and expensive.

I think it would be good to move the weapon upgrade system to be similar to the gold seeds for the flask. You collect your first 'weapon skill' item and all weapons are now at +1 and them you can move from their. This would encourage you to switch weapons more often and it is still fairly easy for the developers to cap weapon progression in the same way they cap it at the moment with the smithing stones.

For item upgrades they are stingy in the sense that you usually have the stuff needed to get 1 weapon a few levels above what you can do with the rest, making it kind of feel like you're forced to use this one weapon. But late game as you get all the bells you can literally get all weapons to 24/25 and 9/10 with like 6 or so of each to max by finishing npc questlines and such. But then again I don't feel the game needs to allow you to upgrade all 100 weapons or however many there are to at once, you can experiment with the base weapons to find out which you like and try out the ones that match your build while you keep the rest in mind for ng+ or a new character where you want to try a different build. We really don't need yet another game to go down the path of handicap access for even the most mentally challenged people out there. What they need to balance is honestly the damage from bleed and frostbite procs, those things are just not right man... Oh and make them not build up in pvp when you the enemy's attack, what's even the point of rolling if you just bleed to death anyway because it chunks you for like 70% of your max health for who knows what reason. I'd honestly prefer if bleed was another dot but the dot scaled with how much the bar was filled up, kinda like you're actually bleeding heavily from all the cuts you've received.

I think they were afraid of players getting too overleveled too easily but sometimes I'll slog through whole dungeons for like an hour and end up with like 1/10 of a level of progress. Sometimes I literally have to leave a sprawling dungeon full of difficult enemies that are at my exact level to go hit some bullshit rune farm area because I'm literally making 0 level progress by just playing the game. Let’s be real - Dunky was harsh but fair in his view. Half of the normal enemies hit harder than the bosses that normally running through a random cave is more annoying than a boss. Random enemies one shot you ad nauseum I even when you are over levelled to the point it’s not even funny. At level 140… I get oneshot by random enemies in the sewer. Armor is just a cosmetic choice with most Armor being irrelevant - In Dark souls you could at least itemise for areas to improve immunisation, etc but in Elden ring it doesn’t matter, Armor is literally just a weight. Most enemies do so much damage that Armor has no value apart from looking cool. I love the game and the lore but I’m like wtf unless you build rivers of blood, Moonveil, go full faith build with Blasphemous or mage every other build feels soooo weak in comparison. Like using the Moonlight Greatsword at 80 intelligence and 40 strength… I do no damage to late game enemy’s it takes 3 to 4 hits to kill anything. But I build blasphemous I can oneshot almost every boss with LT and regain all my health doing it. I love this game but man is there some issues.

Yeah I don't get why if you've used katanas for the first 20 hours of gameplay but you find a sweet spear, you can't just.. equip it and go from there. You have to go back and farm 50+ stones to match the damage, otherwise you're doing like 1/4 of the damage you were before. And you need to know where to farm those stones as well. This has been the case in all the souls games and I think they rely on it to encourage multiple playthroughs- but the problem is that if the original run is VERY long, you can easily get burnt out. And it's not like you don't want to play a game again just because you were able to use both swords and hammers.
