@@justing9130 its just that,what has really truly killed WoW is that no one talks to each other anymore,there's no making friends through exploration anymore or looking for people to do content with in general chat or local chat for that matter,no one uses local defense anymore,if that's even a thing anymore....it just become a gear grab game and no longer a team exercise,kind of sad tbh and I have pretty much lost interest altogether.

They need to remove everything. Adding back 25 or 20 Man raids and 10 Man raids. Just like Karazahn and Gruul/Maggy/TK etc. 1 Difficulty is enough and make the EndCounter Progress-Harder. If you haven't beat the Content you want to beat the content which means you get not that bored. Because you want to archive the final Boss. Today you do Normal/HC and think.. well I have done the Content and no time for Mythic.. so what should I do now?. And you quite because of boring Content.

Activision has brought many games to its downfall, all they care about is money. Look at destiny Bungie worked together with Activision, Destiny 1 was back in the day a good game until they released Destiny 2 and started all content put behind paywalls. Just look what cod has become nowadays, fps gamers are now more in battlefield, pubg, overwatch, fortnite. Even the new Halo games are turned to shite now. Older halo games still are great though due to nostalgic vibes they bring us today. It is a shame that nowadays the old things gets its new releases and pretend to think its initially better then the old version....... shame developers thinks that reinventing the wheel again makes things better, instead of realising its actually making it worse........

My friend that I met through OW got me to play WoW at the release of BoA. I was completely new to WoW and learned everything in a fast paced environment bc my friend was also what you would describe as an "elitist". But somewhere down the road of gathering better gear, we had to separate because they were going up the ladder in terms of ilvl and rank, while I was struggling to find a team/group that would do things with me as a new player. Yes, I even asked around guilds and discovered a new problem called scheduling or im not on the "permanent raid list" lol.... That was single-handedly, the biggest turn off as a new player coming into WoW.. the fact that no one wanted to take me through mythic dungeons and high level raids even though I have been through them many times with my friend. the fact that no one wanted to group up with me in arenas because I didn't have any "xp to link". the fact that all mythic dungeons and raids required you to have a preset ilvl. the fact that in bg, everyone was so picky as to ilvls AND class/race. It got to the point where I just couldn't fit in even if I wanted to. Tl;dr, the community was not welcoming at all. The community that I spent the past few months playing WoW 5 hrs per day was a waste of space, filled with elitists and assholes. The pvp system is not friendly to new accounts/players and encourages players to practice nepotism rather than learning to develop game sense or skills. I can wait 5 hrs lf group and still get rejected for 5 hrs straight bc im new, don't have xp, don't have ilvl that they want, don't need my class/race.... O..K..? IMO as an outsider that never played this game, it doesn't take an idiot to figure out that lfg shit needs to go and an auto queue system based on rating should be put in place. None of this nepotism and discriminatory practice....

I totally agree with your statement. I'm experiencing the exact same things you have experienced. Nobody wants to help out new players in WoW. At least i haven't met anybody. guilds kicked me out because I sometimes had to work the next morning, take my dog for a walk or spend time with my girlfriend. So I basically couldn't enjoy the end game content because I have a reallife and wasn't playing at least 10 hours a day. BUT I'm still playing WoW and enjoying leveling alts and sometimes doing some dungeons, quests, achievements etc. But I'm getting tired of those elitists and selfish assholes telling me to:"liNk Xp oR nO InViTe". I want to enjoy raids, rated bg etc. too. But i can't because of that selfish, toxic and picky community which takes a game way too serious. Still looking for a guild on Blackmoore, Germany that would accept someone who plays if he has time to play.

While blizzard and activision did kind of kill the game, the ones who started all of that were the players themself. It all started in wotlk. At some point one idiot came up with the idea of gearscore and everyone adopted it. 101 on how to kill a community In legion raid groups started kicking ppl not because they were bad but because the boss was easier with less players. Yes you heard me right: people got kicked out of the raid so one (or more) boss(es) would be easier and after that they would be invited again. (note that it could take raid quite some time to kill a boss). People stopped raiding for fun. Getting as much gear as fast as possible is all that matters nowadays

This is relatable for most players that joined gaming before ~2008-2010. We all watch in disbelief how our favourite games and franchises from Ubisoft, EA, Blizzard, Activision, Valve, Bethesda, Rockstar etc. become minigames between opening lootboxes or getting another tick on your XP bar. And when you think about it rationally, nothing is preventing us of just dropping these companies alltogether and turning our gaze towards Santa Monica, Obsidian, CD Project, Digital Extremes and hundreds of good, honest, passionate and creative small Indie Devs that would love even a fraction of this support we give to companies that view us as payers or entitled manchildren who know nothing. It's hard to invest so much of yourself into one beloved thing just to see it crumble, but greed and exponential demands of sharholders ruined what was once our childhood. Even by literally uniting all of us, there is nothing to be done here, only to hope that after these companies implode completely, something good will be born out of the ashes.

eh it turned into one of those mobile games for pc. What are they called ... those Idle rpg games. That's what that shit feels like now. Nothing is immersive. Feels like they're at the that thin line where they can literally code the game to just let you log out while your character runs around and collects xp for you lol. Then you log on in the morning while your character does this all night and you pretend to play warcraft. This is the feeling I get. That's how boring WoW is, that's what it reminds me of... an idle mmorpg. I think people still play this garbage just because they're hooked on it, it's far from good. Rather log on ESO every now and then then log on to a game that feels like and idle rpg.

If you wanted WoW to get better than stop paying for its service and expansions. It will either drastically change and start listening to all the concerns or it will shut down. Both options are better than watching it get more and more embarrassingly bad with each new expansion. If you keep throwing money at them it makes no sense for them to put incredible amounts of time and money into each new expansion since they know you will pay the same for mediocrity.

Jagex kept their old database and if you look at RS3, the base game is still the same, the content is more leaned towards marketing strategies and profit margins. But they're still Jagex, capable of recreating what they once created. Blizzard is not able to do that. The team is a set of completely different people, different ideas. The great game Blizzard created wasn't just because it was a good idea, but many great ideas from a great team. that team doesn't exist anymore, but Jagex still has the same team.

And I have noticed that I'm at a point only months into the xpac where I get on to raid and that is all. I log on every day but if I don't find a friend on I'll just log back out most of the time. I don't think I have hit a point so early in a xpac where I play so little. In the past I would get on and play for hours then go "omg have I been on that long?!". Now I play for 30 mins but it feels like I've been on for hours.

I've never reached the ilvl cap for the tier of raiding I usually do (hc) Fine they put Mythic raiding into LFR but I like raiding with my little guild and we mainly do hc. But within a couple months of Uldir being out I was 10 ilvls over the gear dropping from hc Uldir which made raiding basically useless. Stuck in an endless cycle of running mythic +'s and island expeditions. And the little extras they've added for pets, mounts etc just feel way too repetitive and meaningless. Even looking to Legion, at least there were some cool artifact appearances to aim for. I'm by no means a bad player (top 20 resto druids on my server.) And I feel mythic +'s are way overtuned. I don't often go above 12 and i've RARELY gotten a 3 chest. Maybe like if I went back and did a useless low level. But the odds of getting one in the tier you are at are slim to none, even with good pulls and very few deaths (1-3) you are looking at trying to net 1 shitty piece of loot for up to an hour of decent work.

The Steve Jobs vid nailed it so hard. Every major publisher in the gaming industry is being ran by marketing morons that don't have a single grasp, let alone a pinky finger, of the concept: "What works, works." They ALL became what they are by making great games. Why in flipping feck would you STOP? Because you have no clue what went into making your companies great. Your only purpose and the reason you were hired, is to get more people playing, more people paying and to increase the profit margins. That means advertising, cutting down and spending less. These are the people sitting on the board of EA, of Activision Blizzard, of Zenimax (Bethesda's holding company), of TakeTwo. These are the people that killed Atari and led to the video game crash of 1983. These are the people that will drive their respective companies off the cliff and into financial ruin. And these people, these marketing morons, don't care. It was never in their job description to give a flying shit about their consumers beyond their wallets, and it won't be in their job description when they're CEO or CFO or CTO. History is doomed to repeat itself, and here's hoping the developers of tomorrow learn from their predecessor's mistakes this time.

Anraí Duine that’s a crazy reality to live in my head bro. I played consistently for like the first 5 years give or take and than I also had to quit for irl reasons. I think like 2-3 years later I managed to get my hands on the newest xpack and it just wasn’t the same after that & I’ve always given them another shot when a new xpack drops. I’ve purchased every expansion ( some twice for second accounts ) I’ve prolly paid for like 7 years of play time ( 5 years or so straight with no breaks. than prolly 2 years of play time just fiddling with the new xpacks over the last 7 years. So I would say I’ve paid for like 7 years total over the past 15 or so) but not this time. I did not purchase the newest xpack and I won’t ever because like a month or 2 before the BFA dropped I purchased the monthly sub, didn’t touch my old veteran characters, but instead wanted to level something new and prepare for the new xpack. The world is so bland now. Everything scales to your level so zones just feel like they have new skins. It was so boring I forgot about it. I played for like a week and then my subscription renewed TWICE without me realizing because this wow was just irrelevant in my head. Back in the day I used to walk around at work just thinking about wow. This wow if I don’t open my laptop to see the blizzard launcher I forget it even exists. I could go deeper into the blandness of the game but I’m ranting too much and I’m sorry. I know it’s not that bad for me I only play for a total of half the time they’ve been around but I’ve always wanted them to succeed. It just sucks the way things have gone. Maybe we are a dying breed. The generation 30+ that played all those good games, invested endless time and effort, liked a game not only for it's entertainment but for it's challenge. We are a market group getting smaller by the day. When I see today's gamers complain about stuff being to hard to access, to grindy or to repetitive, I feel totally displaced by this community. As you said, many of us wore items for month or years, even today I know where parts of my classic, TBC or WotLK items dropped and the excitement I felt to loot the last set item I was waiting on for months. But it wasn't a better game play or better graphics, it was the excitement, the community and the feeling to build and develop my character. Back in the day it was fun reading the forums, especially the rogue and warlock nerf threads. At some point all you could find in the forums were community wars. Casual vs hard core, pvp vs raiding and of course the endless "players are so bad" discussions. In 2005 nobody was good, there was a mutual respect among players and the love for the game and the server community kept us excited. Even new and unexperienced players got into raiding and were allowed to fail and learn. When I stopped playing at the beginning of WoD the climate was so toxic, you needed to post achievements to dungeons or raids you wanted to play, so no first chance allowed. Players got kicked because they didn't stand in the right place and I doubt it got any better. The good old game experiences will never come back, nobody wants to invest anything in a game or a character, the mobile generation wants a quick fix. The sad thing is, you see it in almost all game releases today. Dumbed down to simple structure, it's not even worth the word "complexity". And why invest anything in the game at all, because next year there will be the next game, DLC or expansion and it's tabula rasa again. The generation mobile gaming is getting bigger and therefor more profitable. My expectations of a game are no longer compatible with the economic target group, so I play less and less. The poor quality of lately releases did there part too. This might be what '83 felt back in the days.

No, its because data driven user behavior wasn't that advanced at the time. I work for a tech company and the Steve Jobs clip near the end here is spot on. The product team (developers) is routinely ignored and left to stagnate while the marketing and sales department have doubled or tripled in size and influence over the years. At product design meetings we started having sales managers show up and telling us to obfuscate features or label buttons in a misleading way so they could get more sales. We've almost run out of developers now because they were all tired of feeling ignored. Companies have shareholders who don't care if the product is good (and works), rather how much juice they can squeeze out of a dry lemon.

Same. I still technically have a sub, but I took a "break" from raiding in late September, and ..... I just ... I never logged on again. Literally have not logged on a single time since my last raid. I just ceased caring. I wasn't even mad, or sad, or anything. I just literally cannot care anymore. It's not the game I signed up for anymore. Perhaps contrary to a lot of people I don't mind LFG or any of that crap. I really don't. But endless grinds (in a literal sense) like artifact power, and the pseudo-grind that is caused by randomized loot, is was what killed it for me. WoW raiding used to be something you could finish - genuinely, you could get BiS, and be happy, for a few months, every tier. It was amazing. And I had fun doing the same stupid raid, over and over again, with BiS gear, and just having a laugh with my guildies, or playing alts, or whatever. That was fun. Now everything you do is randomized and impossible to actually *complete*.... You cannot get BiS. You can barely even get a single BiS item, because even if the ITEM itself drops, it's probably not titanforged socketed or whatever, so you aren't excited by it. It's going to be a marginal upgrade over that Warforged item you eventually got from the previous tier. So everything is just an incremental infinite grind towards a peak that doesn't exist. 's fucked up and I hate it. If I wanted to play Diablo I'd go play Diablo. Plus a ton of other similarly themed issues, such as your performance as a player being more heavily dictated by randomness than skill etc. /rant.

I’ve never played WoW, so I can’t say for sure if you would like OSRS, but let me tell you some things. Osrs devs stream an hour or more long Q/A EVERY Thursday to talk about ideas for the game with players, answers numerous questions in the Twitch chat, showcase new content, introduce new developers, etc. I find this extremely important because I can confidently say there is NO other videogame company that willingly streams every Thursday of the week to connect with fans and expand the game. Another thing is new content is VOTED IN by the community. That means you’re not getting absolute shit updates. New skills have been kept out of the game by the players. New armors and weapons have too. Osrs tries to keep the essence of what it always has been as well as introduce new things, that means they need some guidance from their players that play the game and know it from the inside and out. The game gets an update every Thursday as well. Whether it’s a big update or the smallest update ever, it gets updated every Thursday. I remember playing OSRS in 2013. The player base was something like 40,000 people. Now I’ve seen the number jumped to over 150,000. It has mobile now. You can fucking do raids or Zulrah on your phone now. How awesome is that? You probably don’t know what those are BUT IT’S OK you will in time if you play. These are just some of the things that I say would make a new player feel pretty good about coming to OSRS. I tried to leave out Nostalgia because A LOT of people will talk about the nostalgia of the game which I’m sure you WoW players have already for your game.

In my opinion, what would heal WoW greatly to make it a platform for further improvements with actual gameplay changes, would be to remove LFR/LFG and sharding. That would bring a sense of server pride we used to have, it forced bonds between players, it forces players to interact and to team up. It will greatly benefit the community in my mind and make it grow as it used to. THEN, they can start making gameplay improvements. Then the game could evolve better than this narrow and streamlined.. thing.. the game has become today.

It would be a great improvement but the problem is deeper than that. The game is basically a slot machine now, it's designed to give you a shot of dopamine every now and then (loot) to keep your attention while doing very repetitive tasks, take as much money as possible from you, until you get bored. But in the end, it's just as boring as pulling the handle of a slot machine in a casino. If they got rid of that, but still kept LFR/LFG and sharding, the game would be interesting again. But they won't, because marketing people are running the thing now (Activision, Ubisoft, EA, etc.). That's why CoD sucks too, FIFA, Madden, Overwatch, Hearthstone, mobile games, Fortnite, LoL, you name it. It's the very core of gaming's problem nowadays.

I too have been playing WoW since 2004, and Starcraft since 1998, and Diablo and Diablo II and Starcraft 2, and this writer, who happens to be, like myself, a Denver Bronco fan, is completely right in his assessment. I logged in about 4 months before BfA, and I played out Legion, which I had never played before. And when BfA launched, I ended up getting about 5 levels and a i quit, and I haven't been back.

I played soooo much between release and right upto the first big patch in WotLK. The game had lost all semblance of community. Dungeons had become "hurry up so I can get teh loots so I can queue for the next run" nonsense. There was no sense of danger in the game, nothing required you to slow down and conserve. You started seeing this at the end of BC when all tanking became "round 'em up and AOE" spam-fests. It just got worse in Wrath. I quit until Cata came out, and played for a few months...until the gated "burning lands" (or whatever they called it). Quit again. Got a free offer to come back for Pandaria...tried it...and absolutely HATED it. The community (what little there was) had become toxic, the game-play stale. There was no challenge. Everything had become a chore. It's amazingly sad what WoW has become. I made some good friends back then.

Brandon Candelario Overwatch was an above average, polished game at best. The maps were always a chokey mess in team fights. A lot of the ultimates do not have a high skill ceiling and are merely based on timings. A lot of the heroes were dumbed down TF2 classes. Overwatch needs to borrow from Quake Champions where ultimates may give a leg up for the player and team, but not pretty much win the engagements. The big issue with Blizzard lies with their awful balancing. They either over nerf or over buff characters. They just do an overall terrible job of letting the game evolve organically.

Then as I got into PC gaming, I was a fan of Warcraft, Diablo, and Starcraft... their lore and art more than my ability to play competitively. I bought the novelizations, the comics, and the DVDs. When they merged with Activision I knew the old Blizzard had been replaced with a look-alike and the real soul of Blizzard had cashed out in exchange for obscene profits over substance. I'm sick of fucking loot boxes. I'm sick of microtransactions in full price AAA games. FFXIV is another MMO that a lot of people play. For all the standard MMO concepts it employs, it has its fair share of fresh ideas. It has an incredible story with fully voice acted cut scenes. It has boss battles that feature some of the best presentation in both themes, art, and music. And probably the best part of all, is the lead director/producer's realistic acknowledgement of how MMOs can or can't survive in today's market. He said that FFXIV is not a game designed to keep you subbed for as long as possible. He fully expects that once people finish playing through the new content that they will not renew until the next big content drop. There isn't any kind of artificial grind that keeps you from experiencing anything new and exciting. Reputation grinds, side quests, side stories, crafting, housing, etc... it's all on the side and completely optional. It isn't a perfect game of course. But as a diehard Vanilla WoW player who will never forget how amazing and fun the first 2-3 years of WoW were, I have to admit that FFXIV has kept my interest for longer. And the trend is completely different. FFXIV is a game that is constantly improving in concepts in style and even now I am more excited to play Shadowbringers than even The Burning Crusade or Wrath... that is saying a lot since I grew up on Warcraft. Played all the games and read all the books...
@Eorzat
@Eorzat 5 жыл бұрын
efknight FF14 is about the only MMO that I’ve seen where the developers legitimately prioritize the well-being of the game before the players. In other words, they don’t take care of their players and gradually make the content easier to digest, and they don’t try to take advantage of their players with a predatory cash shop and the like. They simply listen to the players on what they want and they use their judgement as developers to sort through all the ideas on what to implement and how to implement it. I’m not currently subbed, but FF14 is about the only MMO that I can see myself playing until either the servers shut down or until the next Final Fantasy MMO comes out.

Hell, even "reputation" is more or less just "these people don't trust us." and then a few quests later, "they trust us just enough to get where we need to go next." And then the story kinda continues on from there. I think the only real insane grind is for relics and hunt gear, and while relic weapons become best in slot by the final patch of an expansion, there's really no need for them unless you're in a world prog static racing for the endgame and need every minute edge you can secure for the start of the next expac.
