As someone fluent in corpospeak; what Phil is saying is not really directed at the customers but at Blizzard employees. He´s saying that Microsoft will leave Blizzard mostly alone to develop games however they want as long as they deliver profits. They won´t try to limit what Blizzard is trying to do with their games or tell them what games to develop. The only thing that Microsoft will push on Blizzard is 1) trying to integrate some of their products with Xbox and 2) getting rid of their toxic workplace culture with regards to sexual harassment and the like. Other than that they have free reign. If I were a Blizzard employee that would make me feel more safe in my position and that the projects that I am working on wouldn´t be shut down. Let´s see if that holds up.

I don’t understand the negative response. People don’t seem to understand Microsoft/Xbox and ABK literally could not work together and hammer out specifics until after the deal closed. Doing otherwise would have been ILLEGAL. They could make generalizations of what direction they wanted to go (which have all already been said), but they’ve only been able to talk specifics for less than a month now and corporate takes a LONG time to move. What Phil is doing now is making sure everyone knows ABK is a Microsoft/Xbox brand (including the studios under ABK). The man has been flying around to visit all the studios IN PERSON and appear at the in person Blizzcon event. He doesn’t have anything specific to share because there’s nothing to share, but he is doing his work he getting people talking and having those conversations about where the technically three massive gaming icons acquired will be going in the future. People should keep in mind that we won’t really see ABK start to feel like an inhouse Microsoft/Xbox brand until minimum 2028 and we probably won’t see any effects at all or hear the plans until early 2024. Keep in mind Zenimax JUST got reorganized as being under direct Xbox studio management like a week ago and that closed like 2 years ago. Game development takes a long time and managing a mega corp like ABK into a subsidiary isn’t going to be easy. *Microsoft will probably be finalizing its plans through 2024 and then we’d see the shifts in ABK in late 2025 or early 2026 and then we actually see how that affects game development 2028 or later.* For the rest of 2023 though we’re literally just in the stage of Microsoft/Xbox going “hey, we love all of you and just a reminder we own you and you’re now OUR brand.” And the wording is a joke, but this is a crucial stage. A massive brand like ABK has a crap ton of brand equity and can easily overpower that of Xbox’s or have the fact its first party go unnoticed (the youtube trailer only got 3M views and I’m pretty sure there’s magnitudes more people who play ABK games). A big part of why even acquire a publisher like ABK is for the brand equity and making that into an asset is a lot of marketing decisions.
