I like how everyone wants to argue over the best version of WoW...always going between Vanilla, TBC, and WOTLK....you notice there aren't nearly as many arguing anything beyond those three. The best version of WoW is somewhere in that era, and I wish Blizz would go back.

@Martin Latour TBC was very grindy for my limited experience. And the biggest issue is flying mounts. They almost kill open world PvP. It's not the same MMO when you can't see anyone because they're up in the air.

Mikey43551 Looking back, Vanilla felt more like a beta to TBC’s more complete game. Either way, Vanilla and TBC are in their own category-it became WoW 2 when Wrath came out. MoP is my personal choice for best expansion post-TBC. Wrath simply had a great storyline with the most memorable villain, but MoP doesn’t get enough credit which I think has to do with its underwhelming Kung Fu Panda theme. Gameplay was pretty amazing though.

It's all about Azeroth and any expansion or addition to the game, that brings you out of Azeroth... is trash. TBC and Wrath are not world of warcraft. They should of been called World of TBC or World of Wrath. Once you leave 1-60 and Azeroth, than you have a different game than the original WoW. Look at the big picture as well, the vast majority of sane and understanding individuals; know that 1-60 is the most manageable and worth while version. It has enough content to last 15 years, but isn't too overwhelming for your average casusl player.

I started in BC, but was a complete noob until a few months into Wrath. Wrath was perfectly tuned for someone like me who hardly had raided before. As Wrath progressed so did I and while I didn't clear all hard modes before next tier, I still managed to clear the raids. I still vividly remember moments in Ulduar with my guild - one of the best times of my life honestly.

I remember going into Wintergrasp the week after Wrath came out and I could sneak around and mine higher ore than anybody else was able to because nobody was high enough to mine it in regular zones. There was only like 1 other person on the server that also figured it out and I made a TON of gold! I was sneaking around there when I got the notification that I got the baby bear pet for being online during some anniversary.

GearScore was a blight upon WoW because people quickly learned that an arbitrary number was more important than both experience and skill. All you essentially needed was a ton of gold and you were set. Here's GS in a nutshell: 1) Boost your alt or new character class. 2) Farm a ton of gold from dailies on your main and buy all the necessary gear on AH for your fresh max lvl char. 3) Get automatically accepted into any group without any skill or prior understanding of class mechanics, talent builds or rotations because you've purchased enough epic gear to meet an arbitrary number. GearScore was the dumbest addon ever and I hated it.

Yeah plus people completely ignored stat values/priorities/caps, would get 5k gearscore without hit cap, no haste, wearing tank rings and other nonsense, but hey they had high GS... meanwhile the guy with 3.6gs who had proper stat allocations destroyed them in damage/healing, but didn't get invited.

UUUH, I recall clearing wrath Raids in t6, it was really a shuffle figuring out which t6 to keep for the bonus as long as possible (set) but they all died pretty quick, I think Immortal boosted the difficult-ness because that really gave us something to aim for, but it wasn't really about clearing at that point. Without immortal i might had considered it too easy yeah.

They should. That way the content isn't just thrown away for nothing. And players can revisit. They need a expansion that does with with every MMO. That is what led GWII imo to become garbage, they just took the idea of a everchanging world, and in the process got rid of what alot of people remember fondly.

i remember wrath, at the time just got my apartment, so me and 9 other friends, we had a lan party when it was released, middle of the night here, i had to go to blockbuster and get my game on release night, got a tshirt and energy drink included, while some of my friends had to go to game stop and get their games, we were spread out :P, but we had fun at the party and still fondly remembers wrath.

Tbqh, i hold the opinion, that the old system where you were able to learn the spells and put in talents was great. The character knows all of the spells, has all of those slight bumps to your power from talents (in my imaginary system) so that only leaves your gear to change how/what you play. If i have int geat i will be casting shit, no matter wether i am a holy shock spamming dps paladin, which i think should be a thing, or a two handed sword elusive rogue/hunter type character. I realize that balance would be hell and cookie cutters would spring into the game over night. But this is how i want to be able to play my character. I start a paladin, that means i am blessed by the light and do holy type spells, be it burning the holy daylights out of someones sinful heart or using the light to soften the blows that would otherwise take my head off and give me the time to raise my shield to block them, or using the light to enchant my massive sword so that it literally boils the skin of the unlucky murlock i deign annoying enough that i take the time to hit it with it. I spend an ungodly amount of time learning the spells and paying the teachers in that damned cathedral, and then it all comes down to what talents i put it... Just make gear be the deciding factor in what you are doing and put some kind of dampener on having a non-standard gear for a "spec". Like slower casting time cause of that heavy gear you are wearing, or something. Honestly, dunno i'm just spitballing here.

10m Sarth+3 was supposed to be hard, but if you were wearing T7.5 gear you could ignore all the mechanics and just zerg her to death with bloodlust. Boss was dead after ~60s with our 3 Fury Warrs all above 7k DPS and the remaining 5 guys each at 4-5k. 1 Tank to hold the boss and for a very short time 1 additional drake, and 1 healer to keep him alive.

I was on Shattered Halls (A) during WotLK. The server was 90% Horde. I think we won Wintergrasp about three times the entire expansion. We would have 14 stacks of tenacity lol . Horde raided SW daily. They used to have an RP-walk parade on their bear mounts around Dalaran every other day. Oh, and the frame rate in Dal was hilarious lol. I had to look at the ground to get double digits. Otherwise it was maybe 4-6 FPS. Maybe.

Wintergrasp was the most potential WoW PvP ever. Players loved and hate it, and is showed how lame the battleground system trully is. Me, wintergrasp made me bankrupt. I loved it but Horde could not win it at my server, so I faction changed ALL my character. The dissonance for that stupidity haunted my WoW experience ever since, frankly. The great character change made me realize two things - I was dangerously addicted to WoW and, well, the game was never gonna be as good as I felt it should be from the potential I always felt while playing since open beta in Vanilla.

If you never had VOA on your server, your server is fail. I played on an extremely underpopulated faction, and we still got VOA several times a week. The buffs you got, for being out numbered, were MASSIVE.

Dude the first time i did ICC it was 25 hero and they took me because a guild mate did not make it at that night. Before that i only quested and did the auction house. After failing trought the bosses and ending up at arthas, one fucker just ninja lootet him and we got no loot or even achievement. we contacted a gm but he could not do anything. back then i hated raiding and that fucked it for me like until mop.

Wrath was also good because all classes were now viable. Sadly, at the same time, they also ruined class differences by making spells cross class (like battle-rez and bloodlust). As someone who played druid (and rerolling was a *massive* time investment) it was fucking unbelievably awesome as I could not only match dps, but do better than everyone else because I put in the effort. Everyone else was bitching about how OP feral was but it mostly came down to having a much higher skill cap (AoE was a different topic and issue altogether). It was decent in TBC, but hybrid classes were at best off tanks and extremely rarely DPS. Wrath gave everyone the opportunity to not be restricted by their class choice years ago and that's the main reason it was the best expansion for about a third of the community. In vanilla, the only bear tank you'd see was where molten core was on farm and the bear had cloth fire resist armor on from mid level dungeons. That's how railroaded classes were.

Yeah... Item score was garbage. I would see warrior and dk tanks invited wearing cloth with intelligence and spellpower gear while I was on my 4th alt and could actually play and not be invited because of fear score. I told one pug leader that if anyone beat my dps in the pug raid I would give them 300g. Suffice to say I never had to pay out.

I hated Wintergrasp for 75% of Wrath. The server I was on in the beginning of Wrath was so unbelievably dead and imbalanced that is on the Alliance only got Wintergrasp in the middle of the night until about 2pm server time. WHEN EVERYONE ELSE WAS AT WORK OR SCHOOL! We could occasionally, maybe once or twice a week, could sneak it away for a rotation if we got lucky and all the Horde were mostly raiding. It was miserable. We were the second highest ranked alliance guild on the server out of about 4 raiding guilds. Only us and number 1 had even cleared all the content. The Horde side had about 8 guilds that had cleared everything, and numerous others that declined from there. The ratio was something like 70/30 but we had basically 2 full 25 man raid teams and another 10 man on top that were clearing content. But everyone wanted to do Winterspring so we just got fucked. During Ulduar I moved one character to another server to play with my cousin since they raided Tues/Wed/Thu with Sunday for alt runs, while my guild mostly raided weekends. Then during ToC I moved over all but one alt over to the new server, leaving the alt so that I could still raid with them since I had other family that I raided with on there. But I was one of their main tanks and the person who I swapped roles with just couldn’t quite cut it. After a month or so of trying to make it work out, people got angry. We ended up dropping down to two 10 man groups and then before long they went to one, and then they stopped trying entirely. So I fucked off to the other server where Wintergrasp actually got traded back forth constantly and lived happily ever after. Sorta..

30:00 BULLSHIT! I was dedicated PUG raid raid leader. I was also not only one on my server Ravencrest during this time i played as a death knight Ulquìorra during that time and Sareyn my hunter. I inspected EVERY single player whom i invited into my raid at Dalaran, even before Gear score. That was part of the deal that everyone whom i invite i will inspect everyone did this whom were dedicated raid leaders to PUG raids like i was. The Gear score actually ruined it since some of the gear (such as hunters Armor penetration) were low ilvl items so it decreased your gear score. I had to fake my gear score with trash items to appeal as a better raid leader to all noobies so they would join into my PUG raids. Then once i entered into raid i change items into better ones. Still sometimes some jackass linked "look raid leader has trash items now wonder we are wiping" and it causes people to leave from my raids. So Asmongold as a PUG raid leader during this time i can say Gear score was utter bullshit because it did not always reflect directly what was the BIS items for your characters. However i had a reputation during this time and people trusted my raids, i was first to complete Icecrown citadel on the server as a PUG raider as far as i am concerned on horde side that is. I also remember having some backlash from Obsidian sanctum when i was raiding with someone i knew IRL he Ninjaed every item and i got the heat from that. After some assholes from guilds called "Finnish design and Electric wizards" tried to stain my name. Fortunately they did not succeed since most players outside their guild gave a 0 fucks considering the reputation i had gained as a PUG raid leader people trusted me more than they did on them.

I used ro do the same. As a main tank I used to inspect people before bringing them to a dungeon or raid. Usually I used to ask them like 20% more gear score than the actual raid/doung could possibly give you with their items. Grear time to have the power and to decide who comes and who don't. If somebody didn't like my rules I just move to another party and believe me, no one wants to lose the most geared main tank .. Good times

Cause of the LFG / LFR system, you hardly met any new friends or recruited new guild members that you learned to know, and to know their skills or mentality, yeah ofc there are ppl that suck, thats a part of fucking socializing, thats what the guild kick or unfriend / ignroe is for, its not that hard..

Easy raiding causes itemization progress inflation. If raids are accessible and easy then too many people get the best gear available, so any new content has to contain even better gear, which again most people will end up getting. That means you end up with inflated item levels for people to bother playing the content. What was "epic" gear last month is now just "meh." That's poor design. Making raids very hard and basically unavailable for most players gives room for Blizzard to add more content as dungeons, zones and quests where the loot is the same, or just slightly better than what the average player already have access to. That way it'll be interesting for players as there is content with better gear, while end-game raiding guilds maybe won't bother and still worry about the difficult raids.

TBC was the peak of WOW, somethings was not perfect, improvements came in wotlk and later expansions, and vanilla had things going for it as well, but burning crusade was the peak, massive improvements in graphics and performance and bug fixes from vanilla, most classes had all its specs as viable, witch gave massive depht to each class, awesome raids, that was hard as well as rewarding, a LOT of content, most guilds never even downed all bosses during BC, there was so much and it was to hard to steamroll tho that you never ran out of awesome content, the server and the world where alive and active, people talked and made groups, made friends to form groups. It was wow as it was meant to be.

@Jeanne Santillana yeah i see what you mean, wotlk was by far, imo, the closest to TBC in perfection, personally i enjoyed for example healing with my resto druid more in wotlk, but you got to admit the difficulty of the game was tuned down alot in wotlk, instant teleporting to instances made the world dead after the lvling was done, people just sat in Dala, the game started having boring periods, where raid content was on farm and you had nothing to do. Wotlk was fun, the game was fun, but the "casual" aspects had been turned up to much, cc vanished as a thing needed to be done in dungeons, mindless aoe spam replaced los pulling and sheeping/trapping whatever the mobs, the game started leaning to much in the "casual" direction. The classes started to become streamlined, with every spec needed to perform exactly the same. Not everything was bad ofc, really good improvements came in wotlk too, but it still was the first wow expansion where you starting seeing issues with the direction the game was heading, it was masked by the fact the game was still hella fun to play still.

Asmongold you are incorrect, as a former KT Horde member EARLY wrath WG wasn't bad as the server inbalance was not terrible it still favor'd alliance but not super heavily and WG was competitive with Horde and Alliance seemingly trading pretty regular not always but not terrible. It changed however when Blizzard announced GUILD TRANSFERS and upon this coming out immediatly Icon the #1 Horde guild on KT went Alliance on the same server, as did the #3 guild....this followed with about 3-5 guilds leaving KT Horde as well to move to more populated servers like Area 52, Thrall so on. This killed KT Horde and it went in 1 week from like a 1.7:1 ratio to a 9:1 ratio in favor of Alliance. KT Horde eventually completely died in MoP when just before the expansion Blizzard announce free transfers for KT Horde to Alterac Mountains and the rest of the server jumped ship or just quit.

It's funny hearing you talk about the "harcore" good old times of Wow. WoW was the casual mmo at the time it came out. Easy to play, easy content, no loss of anything whenever you fuck up. The only thing different in wrath was aoe tanking. Vanilla and TBC would require more cc. As far as tanking was concerned. Pally aoe tanking really started off in TBC though. I thought pally tanking got overpowered in wrath. But then again I'm probably still salty since I was a warrior tank.
