I wish they returned to TBC raid progression. No raid was obsolete for the entirety of the expansion... the only exception was KZ later in BC but people did it anyway because it was good.
@rumham76316 жыл бұрын
I feel like that's the biggest issue with WOW now is that the instant that new content comes out, all previous content becomes irrelevant. Back in Vanilla people still cleared MC(or at least half of it) for Thunderfury Bindings, people still cleared BWL for Rejuv Gems/DFT etc.. nowadays as soon as a new tier comes out the only reason to even consider stepping foot in old content is for achieves or the mounts/xmogs.. They need to find a way to keep at least 1 previous tier somewhat relevant, but they don't bother anymore because they can just make u run the current tier 27 times per week in hopes that u get a titanforged roll
@rumham76316 жыл бұрын
before people start with the reeeeeeeeeee.. 27 was an exaggeration, I'm just referring to mythic raiders having to pretty much do every difficulty every week because of the possibility of titanforges. So not only do previous raids become irrelevant, but now you have to do ONE RAID several times per week, and that's if you play 1 character only....
@Loomx56 жыл бұрын
Legion did kinda manage this though. Sure it wasn't specifically required to do old tiers for gear or to unlock the next tier, but artifact power actually having good drop rates from old content, tier sets having powerful bonuses well past their tier, artifact appearance drops from bosses, useful profession unlocks, genuinely good cosmetic gear each tier (plus the bonus mini-tier from ToV) , the balance of power questline and (controversially) Legendary drop changes from old bosses and increasing your BLP for legendary drops. NH and EN and ToS were still all being run even up until the end of Legion, and yeah this did lead to burnout for a lot of people but it was also fuckin real good at allowing everyone to properly experience content and keeping it relevant for the whole 2 year cycle. Bet you no one steps in Uldir for years after January, at least till it can be soloed and even then barely due to how fuckin piss poor most of the sets are.

The idea that you would have had to sacrifice a character to make a DK would have been absolutely brilliant! So many possibilities there...
@brettyacyshen93526 жыл бұрын
Illidan did NOT want to become the Lich King, he was tasked by Kil'jaeden to go and kill Arthas because the original ruler of the Scourge (Ner'zhul, who's soul is bound to Frostmourne, the Helm of Dominion and the rest of the armor) had rebelled against the Legion after he started to gain more power and thus decided to make the Scourge independent of the Legion to claim Azeroth for his own. Kil'jaeden wanted Arthas dead so that he could regain control over the Scourge to continue there war on Azeroth, Illidan ultimately failed in his fight though against Arthas and retreated back to the portal to Outland where he was met with Kil'jaeden's disappointment and threatened him to not mess up again otherwise he would be met with eternal torture.

I remember during the zombie event for the pre-launch I figured out the weapon swap exploit by accident. (If you could dual-wield and got turned into a zombie, you could swap your main hand and off hand to immediately return to full health). It was funny seeing 10 max level players hammering on me as I continually weapon swapped in Crossroads. Back when I had people to play with, anyway.

I just remember when destro warlocks (my main) wasn't a chaosbolt bot ;_; Like we used to have loads of damaging abilities that all had a purpose, let me list a few: Immolate: had a short cast time, dealt highly mana efficient damage, and was required for conflagrate Conflagrate: dealt instant damage, had a short cooldown, consumed immolate or shadowflame Shadowflame: close range, instant cast, short cd, slow, had a DoT. Corruption: instant cast, mana efficient, was a normal dot to keep up during longer fights Chaosbolt: dealt medium-high damage, had a long cast time, had a short cooldown, ignored most defensives Soulfire: dealt medium-high damage, long cast time, short cd, consumed a soulshard. Shadowflame: instant cast, medium damage, short CD, consumed a soulshard, refunded if the target died. Incinerate: medium cast time, medium damage, no CD, high mana cost, bonus dmg if immolate on target. searing pain: short cast time, low damage, high threat generation, meh mana cost, filler in PvP. curses: DoT curse, shadow dmg curse, fire dmg curse, anti-melee curse, slow curse. Used for utility or burst. Also a couple of important notes: -confalgrate made your next 3 destro spells enjoy 30% shorter cast times and GCDs - getting hit with phys attacks had a 25% chance of making your next incinerate instant cast, helping with melees sitting on you -demonic circle was baseline -mortal coil was baseline -destro had instant shadowfury -destro could get chaosbolt (final talent), and still have soul link (20% dmg redirected to demon) and a 3min cd to almost instantly summon a demon with half the mana cost, from the demonology tree. -mana was an important resourece In a nutshell, a lot of the destruction warlock gameplay revolved around decisions over various resources. Thoughts like: -"is casting incinerate here really worth the mana cost, or should I just use a cheaper filler or refresh my dots?" -"should I really use a soulshard here to instantly cast shadowburn, would it create enough pressure to force defensive CDs or get a kill?" -"should I cast conflagrate before my chaosbolt to get it off faster, or use it after my chaosbolt to get a bigger surprise chunk of dmg?" -"can I afford to lifetap soon for more mana? or do I need to conserve it.. should I just use shards to deal more mana efficient damage instead?" -"should I let my pet die here, and use a 3min cd to summon a new one fast so I dont lose soul link, or retreat and heal it back?" -"is it really worth casting fear here, the mana cost is quite high, does it prevent enough damage or force CDs if I just cast it here?" Currently you just spam everything that's available: Mana? not even a resource! Soulshards? doesn't matter just spam chaosbolts if you CAN, wont do anything without 3min burst CDs anyway! Fear? Just spam it away, 50 casts will make you oom for 10 seconds! Any firespell? SPAM IT! Won't even tickle or make 10% of your dps! Only used on CD or as fillers to get soulshards so you can spam chaosbolt! Chaosbolt? Only deals damage when infernal and dark soul are combined (3min and 2min CDs!). And It's the only thing that can deal any meaningful damage in your whole toolkit! Also mortal coil and demonic circle are on the same talent row... And shadowfury has a cast time... Howl of terror has been removed too.

Wotlk would have been so much better if they just kept in the raid progression and kept out the dungeon finder. You’ve got two of the best raids, Ulduar and ICC, and the most compelling, fall from grace villain story in the Warcraft universe. If they tuned up the difficulty of naxx and had heroic on launch the xpac would’ve been legendary, even more so than TBC.

Dalaran bricked server hardware as well. It wasn't as much about hardware. It was poorly implemented and this is why there was no questing down below. Turns out pushing all of the population of the realm into one city was a bad idea. They DDoS'd their own servers by design. When Wintergrasp launch on Tichondrius it literally broke the game. ping times in raid instances shot up to over 2k until well after the Uldaur raid was launched. They took forever to finally fix it. They used it as a tool to funnel some people out of BG9 and Tichondrius. It was horrific.

We didn't run out of content in TBC because content was not trivial. You didn't have have an insane amount of catch up mechanisms that focus on trivialization, such as mid-expansion 5mans or Timeless Isle. We DID run out of content in WotLK because of all the catch-ups, which caused Blizzard to rush Ruby Sanctum into a failure. Still, it went fine because you didn't have Timeless Isle to make half the raids pointless, or Titanforge to get you gear 5-15 ilevels above what you should have without any merit whatsoever. Wellfare gear and RNG upgrades are at the core of what's ruining the game.

Looking at how OLD and out of touch the modern head Devs look compared to what they looked like during TBC/Wrath could also be a issue why the game is dying a slow death, DK was also the beginning of the end flowing into the Monk (should have been a Blademaster - did you see that Orc model?) then into the DH which makes no sense as a class, Monk has much much more depth but DK and DH the simplicity of their gameplay and the dps they do just makes no sense, but hey there "Hero" classes who cares about the classes that made the game the most played MMO.

I quit WoW when after having raided cataclysm hard modes we got "rewarded" by getting a kung-fu panda patch, everything becoming more accessible, and nothing being a challenge anymore... The best thing about WoW was 25-man hardmode raids. Yes, it was hard. Yes, it was complicated to schedule. But man, the reward though, and I don't mean just the gear. The satisfaction you got after 2-3 nights of hardmode ulduar 25 or hardmode ice crown 25 was amazing. It was real team work. Casuals were whining that it was "elitist" and whatnot, but they didn't HAVE to do hardmode, or even 25 man raids. It was elitist because just a couple of people fucking up would mean the rest of the raid wasting their time and wiping all night. Old WoW 40 man raids were excessively stressful to plan, but a moderately disciplined guild could easily setup multiple 25-man and 10-man raid rosters, complete with reserves during WLK. And all the mods needed to support managing all this made it easy. What killed WoW for me was LFR. LFR should have been limited to "easy mode" 10 mans from the start.

Man I loved Wrath but it began the decline unfortunately. You originally had to work just to get a raid down, like real work. You had to study wowhead, watch boss fights and take notes, and actually plan out your play session to make sure you got the bis enchants and gems. It was glorious. I would plan my weekdays around doing all my 10s and 25s before reset (remember you could do each raid as 10 AND 25 back in the day). As a lock my BIS may be in the 10 vs the 25 or vice-versa. You had to work for a drop and they felt like winning. Then they fucked it all up with gearscore, combining 10 and 25 lockout, and dungeon helper (but only a little, you still needed to know what to do unlike today where you can dance through a boss fight with LGR...) Wow has never been the same since.

This guy keeps saying TBC's lore wasn't as good, its more like they presented the lore in WOTLK at his speed requiring a lot less reading to understand it and a lot more cinematic to sesame street it through. The developers realized that you mongs can't be bothered to read is why they changed it. It also wasn't nearly as raid gated, basically casual AF by comparison, yay. I don't think the game would have ever garnered the subs it did had WOTLK came out prior to TBC. WOTLK was a pretty underwhelming expansion to follow up after TBC IMHO.

Wrath was the first time I quit playing WOW. Arthas was a joke of a "bad guy" he would randomly show up and tell an NPC to kill the players, then leave and of course we would kill the NPC. This happened several times and just made him look like a completely incompetent villain. He also looked weird. Something about his in game model just looked off (sort of like the problem with the Draenai). As Asmon said, this was the beginning of the end. I played through Cata, which completely ruined all the leveling in Azeroth and then played on and off during MOP. I played for a short time in WOD, played for like a week in Legion and never bothered with BFA. The pruning of the talent trees and then the pruning of talents had nothing to do with improving the game, it all came down to the developers being too lazy to want to deal with balancing them. I know most people ended up with a cookie cutter build at max level (I knew a few people who would come up with their own talent builds and do very well with them because of the way they play), but while leveling, it was always a big deal to get that new talent point. Losing it along with buying new talents from the trainers took so much of the feeling of progressing away from the game. Gaining a new level after they were gone literally meant nothing. From what I've heard, it sounds like they are doing the same thing with crafting and armor vendors. They have removed so much from the game, it is not surprising that NO ONE wants to play it anymore. Blizzard have literally cut their own throat with all these changes.

I couldn't agree more with you! You are 100 percent right in what you're saying. Problem is I see the comments and people can't handle the truth and live in Denial, fact is Blizzard made the game into something it is no longer, World of Warcraft... 14 years i have been playing I just can't walk away from something that had I never played it, I would never have met my kids mom in Vanilla and have the kids I do today with her. For all of us this game holds something dear to our hearts, especially if you played Vanilla and TBC. Wrath was good and Cata destroyed it all...After that it is only a shell of itself former self now. No one i played with back then plays today. The love and care and friends i made from Vanilla through to Wrath during those times were incredible. I really hope Vanilla server's will show everyone who never played it what it was like depending on someone running around where you were at to help you, there was no youtube to tell you how to do everything...What it was like to raid with 40 people! Was much more social than now no one talks in dungeons anymore. If you didn't play Classic Wow and Burning crusade then you have no idea what anyone is talking about when we say It was better Slower in progression, forced you to be nice and work together with total strangers and beat a game with Alot of CC and balancing issues and lag issues. Today's game is more balanced than ever before faster progression Everything is much faster and they always run out of content to keep us around 6 months before expansion time. Just had to play it back then to understand.
