Who would stop him? Who COULD stop him? What he did was nothing short of incredibly sleezy. But sleezy isn't illegal. The best option would be to stop supporting companies people like him own. But the first thing they're going todo is cut out all the employees. He won't be affected by it at all. He'll still get his quarter billion dollar payout. The law won't do anything because none of this is illegal. Even if they could, he has enough money to pay lawyers to keep this out of courts for years if not decades.

Kotick did exactly what he was supposed to do under the current corporate playbook: increase profits by any means, cut costs by any means, and make sure the stock price goes sky high. Even if this isn't good for a business in the long run, it's good for the people that run it, and the show that satisfaction by giving him more than $250m, even if that means tearing down everything that them that money, because they don't care. They'll just move on to be executives, CEO's, etc. at some other company and the cycle will repeat. It's all about wealth extraction now, and to executives, these companies are merely sponges to suck up all the money, only to be wrung out and cast aside.
@Joseph_G
@Joseph_G 4 ай бұрын
There are probably plenty of valid criticisms of Bobby, but this isn't one of them. He increased profits by selling products, and he got all that money by selling his shares, because they were worth that much. To sell a company for a vast fortune, because it is _worth_ a vast fortune, is not "wealth extraction", it's wealth creation.

This is exactly why the "AAA" industry will never change. Not only are the people responsible for intentionally sinking their own ship not being punished for it, they usually get rewarded for all their "hard work". So when they inevitably fail, they don't go down with their mangled ship. They just find someone else's ship, and start drilling speed holes in the hull again.
@Kiryu_Kazuma01
@Kiryu_Kazuma01 4 ай бұрын
Of course they won’t change. They’re in too deep now. The old devs and publishers we knew 20 years ago, are gone. The “AAA” we have now will only get worse and worse. This is why indie devs and even AA devs, especially on Steam will start to thrive. Who wants to put up with the standard BS that the AAA industry is known for nowadays? I certainly don’t. And that’s why I am very selective on the games I buy now. There are very few “AAA” games I buy anymore, but plenty of indie and AA games I’ll buy, because they don’t treat their customers like garbage

And how did Bobby screwed anything? It's fcking 900% stock increase of company he was CEO of. WHAT ARE YOU EVEN TALKING ABOUT , BRAINDEAD? I understand that your education is non existence at the best. But even you can understand that Chief Executive Officer job is to make COMPANY STOCKS HIGH AND MARKET VALUE HIGH. That's not how the world works. His worth is based on his stocks in the company. If the company is run into the ground, so does his worth. To be fair, that's a mischaracterization of how useful that money is. Yeah, it would pay for the employee's salaries but that's not including all of the money Microsoft would have to also continue pumping into the studios to pay for the buildings, utilities, hiring new employees, severance pay for fired employees, R&D for project ideas, etc. Further, Microsoft closed Arkane Austin, the US branch of the main Arkane Studios, which kept releasing bad games. As for Tango Gameworks, of the 4 games they released 3 of them were middling in terms of their scores and sales so its closure was definitely more, "not enough money being generated in the long run." We also don't know how many people from both of the studios actually kept their jobs by being moved to a different studio. Now that that is out of the way, I still hate Microsoft, Activision Blizzard, and Bobby Kotick.

Im just gonna say this. Purely based on video title. I agree. Im head of IT for a small company. Multiple mistakes made by Microsoft support agents screwed us out of office 365 E3 license package. They failed to bill us in time, and i reached out to 3 support agents begging them to take our money basically. And now, months after i was supposed to be billed, package for e3 no longer includes some items. Items of which were included when we were supposed to be billed. This new package only applies to NEW customers after a certain date. We would have been grandfathered in meaning we would still have the version with these included items as we wouldnt be new customers from that change date onward. 2 of the support agents said i would not lose these features, while the 3rd support essentially said "we messed up, my b, too bad give us more money anyway." Im 90% sure this was done on purpose to get more money of us. We spend 12k a year on their licenses total so its very small compared to their other clients. Its like they know we are small and wanted to walk all over us to get more money out of us..... im still fighting this btw. In contact with agent number 4 now.

Bobby wasnt the problem, he is a symptom of what the real problem is in gaming which is share holders. As long as a publisher is publicly traded, then there will be investors that demand that you make the line go up on the stock prices year over year. So they choose a person (basically a psychopath) with no shame to make that happen, this was Bobby. As long as these companies have shareholders, they will continue to become more predatory and implement more ways to exploit the consumer. The problem for these shareholders is that I think the stock price are doomed to plateau, and in fact even decline. The reason for this is simple, there is only so much audience they can have, and only so much money that audience is willing to relinquish or so much shenanigans they are willing to put up with. Growth is not infinite.

BUT BUT MONEY!? 💰
@crashzone6600
@crashzone6600 4 ай бұрын
@grimngruesome8988 getting profits is not the problem, It is to the degree of which shareholders wish the company to profit. The shareholders want a y=x² or y=2x growth in profits, when profits have a nature of being more like a y²=x so the amount of profits usually will plateau when your consumer base stops growing. I think a similar example to this is probably a KZbin channel, where many channels suffer from stagnation of growth. Those channels will still be very profitable indefinitely, but that level of profitability will never rise and infact probably decline as the market becomes oversaturated and the amount of ad money that is given per view declines. I think the issue for publishers too is that profit margins also continue to shrink because games are costing more to produce, and that production is taking longer. This means that the publicly traded companies are gonna get more and more desperate to with their measures so they can impress shareholders. But I think this means it will only lead to a collapse of these companies as they essentially implode like rocksteady did with suicide squad.

I feel like gamers are so dumb because they are less than 14 years old they don't know what Activision was when Bobby Kotick bought the company. Activision (then known as Mediagenic) had less than 100 employees, and 60 million in debt and made no revenue. Bobby bought a company with 60 million in debt and turned the company around and created all the franchises that became great. You may complain that he is solely responsible for destroying the franchises, but when he had the most sway and power over the company he created all the great products that made Activision what it is, and over time the marketing people have been driving the company towards profitability and making money. He gets no credit, yet all the hate because people think the year Bobby bought his yacht is the year he started as CEO. He can afford a yacht because he took a gamble where 99.9% of entrepreneurs fail and he won.
