The woke mob is still in denial about metroid being a succesful 40 yo series. They can't stand Samus
@spk1121Ай бұрын
The Metroid franchise is the single greatest rebuke to the whole femicrazy narrative. If guys actually looked down on women, particularly in action roles, the outrage when Samus was first revealed all those years ago would have been tremendous. The fact that it went on to become one of Nintendo's most successful IPs ever shows guys don't care as long as it's a good story and her role makes sense in-universe.
@templarknight7Ай бұрын
@@spk1121 Clearly they do care, it's why she's mainly in her armor. Guys won't play for long if they're constantly reminded that they're playing as a badass woman. The armor also makes it easy to self-insert, just like Master Chief in Halo. Just look at the backlash against this Naughty Dog game. You know nothing about it, but hate on it anyways just because you don't like the design of, presumably, the protagonist. Edit (since I get so many replies): Maybe I should clarify: Men don't like playing as women in story centric games. Obviously fighting games like smash don't matter as the objective of those games is to beat your opponent. For plot centric games where character development matters, men just don't relate to female characters. It's why, looking at the list of female characters that have been mentioned in this comment chain, there are so few successful ones. People keep mentioning niche characters and fighting games. For successful female led franchises, you have to hypersexualize them (Bayonetta, Lara Croft) or share screentime with male protagonists (Resident Evil). Resident Evil 2 is a great case study on this. You have essentially the same game played from either a male or female perspective. 80% of players choose to start the game from the male perspective. 50% of players complete the game from the male perspective while only 37% of players complete the game from the female perspective. If gamers didn't care, why is there such a huge difference?

@@sorkinquinzel In some ways, I agree with your post. It is far better to focus your energy on the stuff that is positive and good, like quite a few of the asian and eastern european games. Still, it can be entertaining, justified or even pleasurable to rage against game design studios that go too far with their ideology. Once gamedesign moves away from good gameplay, interesting or cool looking characters and starts to design games to promote their very unpopular agendas, they deserve to be ridiculed and boycotted and they will eventually go bankrupt as a result. Most gamers have been starving for something that hasn't been infected with this woke virus. I genuinely believe that if this game was released way before the industry moved away from designing games for their core audience, it would not have this negative a response as it had now. Now, even a whiff of something that feels wrong will set everyone in a (undestandably justified) rage. This is what you get when you push people to their limit and keep shoving garbage down their throat. It is not just the social politics that they push in games, it is all of that in addition to the crazy monetization in games, the lack of quality in triple A games, the massive layoffs just to try and get better looking end-of-year financial spreadsheets, the sexual harassment scandals in large game studios, the bigger companies that buy up succesful small studios dismantling them soon after, ... there is so much negativity in the gaming industry, it is almost unreal. I have no idea why this is so hard to grasp for these companies. Strong women in a physical sense aren't fundamentally masculine in nature. They can be beautiful and like predominately feminine things, its just that their body has been honed to a physical height that makes them appear less "Girly." And in the mental scope of strength, their appearance means nothing for that barring character design and backstory. Having high amounts of will or intelligence doesn't mean a woman should look masculine in order to convey that strength. It's counter-intuitive to the overall idea of "Strong Women" in media. Making her bald and near androgynous in body-type comes off as a stereotypical rendition of a strong woman instead of an artistic interpretation. If you want her actions to be more important than her appearance, give her a mask or some cool helmet so we straight up can't tell what she looks like. It'd force the audience to judge her off of actions she makes far more than what she looks like.
@ryllharuАй бұрын
Even when they are trying to go for physical strong, they're still getting it wrong, but this wasn't the case before. Fable II got it right with Sister Hannah "Hammer" who was physically imposing in all dimensions. But it never felt patronizing. You felt like she had trained and earned her physical abilities over a long time. She had a lot of traditionally masculine traits, but an equal amount of feminine behaviors and mannerisms. She still felt like a real person instead of a shallow interpretation of someone with "strength" who they make female to check off more boxes from a sterile list.

As a teenage girl in early 2010s, I wanted more female protagonists in RPGs (an option to choose like in Mass Effect is perfect, too)... And by female I mean someone that looks & acts like a woman. Not androgynous creatures with no personality beyond "stoic" and "sarcastic". Cause this right here is a definite pass.

@kenshinhimura6280 Yes, that's true, but that's what these studios created. Take Ubisoft for example. No one cried out "Woke" with Assassin's Creed Odyssey. That game let you pick between a male and female protagonist. No one cared that they pivoted from Alexios to Kasandra with all their promotional material. No one cared that they did the same with Eivor. But we've learned since 2020. They've pushed this agenda on gamers, and now every single time, gamers see something that is close to being diverse they yell "Woke"

Problem is, they think their demographic is 100% far left transwomen and lesbians who "yaaas" when they see trailers like this, not straight dudes going "damn she looks terrible". If she had makeup, Chun-Li hair buns, a feminine figure and came across actually _likeable_ I guarantee the trailer would've gone down a storm. Lots of bonus points for actually using an 80's anime aesthetic instead of the modern "uncanny valley" graphics they usually fall into. Straight guys don't mind playing as women, as long as they're... well, women.

I'm a woman, I don't want to play as a they/them looking creature. It's not real life, let every protagonist be hot (both males and females). If I'm going to have to look at them for 20 hours + why shouldn't they be aesthetically pleasing? As a side note any arguments that state that this is what a 'real woman' looks like are kidding themselves. Outside of particular spaces; which I expressly choose to avoid like the plague, women do not look like this.

@Subpar1O1Ай бұрын
Personally the part that I hated and knew people would hate about the trailer is how snarky she is. Frankly I don't care that she's a buff woman who shaved her hair, that means nothing in the grand scheme of things but the developers clearly think it does, why else would the trailer open with her taking a buzzer to her hair? I just don't understand why they make characters like this and also give them no redeeming traits. The fact she's all those things does not matter but how are you expecting people to attach to your main character if there's nothing to like
@Billy-bc8pkАй бұрын
@Subpar1O1 Because of saturation. Even now there are still normies saying "Wait and play it first; don't judge it; it's just a cinematic trailer!" it's the same excuse they're using for The Witcher 4. There was nothing likable or inviting about the way they portrayed Ciri in that cinematic trailer, but people will still defend. The old guard will avoid buying it, but gen z will eat it up because it's what they've been raised on.
