Hello, I'm curious about one thing if you (or anyone who knows) could answer me! It is usually depicted as a red dot on the forehead, but I have noticed that some are more of a red blur at the hairline, why is that?

It's represent the third eye and ıts traditional hindu religion. There was a Shiva(one of the god as far as know) and Shiva had a third eye.

The smear at the hairline is a symbol of her being married and the red dot represents the third eye and considered to be a spiritual/energy center. It enhances a woman’s beauty as well when used decoratively by women in general (usually Hindu women wear it but anyone can wear it). Hope that helps:)
