Have you tried before cupping the mic with the cup (as in mic completely inside the cup) and tapping it? I'd love to hear how it sounds. Would it be basically the same as tapping them just around the mic, or would it take this trigger to the next level?

I remember wayyyyyyy back in the day (like back in the “how bout them tapples” days) you had some kind of aluminum can maybe a shaving cream or something that had the most amazing lid sounds! & there was one particular lotion bottle you used to have that made an unusually awesome sound too!!
