I've been casually reading short literary works of Tolstoy, Pushkin & Chekhov over a few months now. Their work captures the 18th & 19th century landscape, society, culture & lives of the people of the region in fascinating detail. Seeing the map, listening to you explain the past of this vast, largely unexplored, country fills me with wonder. I wish history had unfolded differently for them, nations were friendly and things were peaceful now.

How timely! I'm actually going to take the Trans-Siberian route in three days from now, coming back from Amur Oblast, where my grandma's living, to Saint Petersburg. Although I am going to switch to the plane halfway through. Also, fun fact: my great-grandfather moved to the Far East with his family specifically to work on building the BAM route, so thanks for mentioning it :) I think he was working on Trans-Siberian route before that, too, but I'm not sure about details - both he and my grandpa (his son) are long gone. Thank you so much for this video! Recently I've been watching your stuff one after another, because all of your videos are so curious and soothing at the same time. It must take a lot of work to prepare yourself for filming it, and I'm very grateful for all if your effort. Oh, by the way - nice pronunciations! You're really doing a wonderful job.

Great map and info. I did this trip in winter 1983, from Khabarovsk, because Vladivostok was closed to visitors. Would love to have had a map with this level of detail. The train ran on Moscow time, I think, which was a bit confusing though it makes sense to have a standard.

Can’t wait to watch this tonight! I’m heading to Vienna this weekend, do you have any top recommendations for this time of year?
@MelangeASMR2 жыл бұрын
Good question, what are you looking for? All I can think of right now is the traditional "Ganslessen" this time of year lol - roasted goose (if you eat meat, of course). The Christmas markets won't be open for another two weeks or so, it's a bit too early for those.
@hayls142 жыл бұрын
@@MelangeASMR Definitely any food recommendations! We’ll be checking out one of the (less touristy) coffee houses you mentioned in an old video. 😊 I’ve been recommended a classical concert, do you have a recommendation on where to see one? I’ve seen a few places
@MelangeASMR2 жыл бұрын
For classical concerts, the obvious one is the Musikverein because it's such a beautiful venue: www.musikverein.at/ The Staatsoper might already be sold out but have a look anyway (During the break, it's possible to go out on the rooftop, and after an opera it's customary to have sausages from the Bitzinger Würstelstand behind the building, next to the Albertina - try the Käsekrainer!): www.wiener-staatsoper.at/en/season-tickets/events/ And then there's also the Konzerthaus which I personally really love. On Sunday there's a concert with the Wiener Sängerknaben, for example: konzerthaus.at/calendar Apart from Ganslessen, it's also mushroom time! Semmelknödel (white bread dumplings) with mushroom sauce is one of my favourites when it comes to traditional cuisine. It can be a bit heavy tho when the dumplings are fried lol, just a warning. For vegetarian dishes, you can try Krautfleckerl or Käsespätzle. If you want to try Schnitzel, my recommendation would be Café Anzengruber in Schleifmühlgasse (which is a great area if you're looking for places to eat or drink; Vollpension just across on the other side is a lovely café where grandmas and grandpas bake the cakes, Matcha around the corner is a nice Japanese restaurant; there's also Swing Kitchen where you get vegan burgers, and Zweitbester and Pizza Randale are two of my personal favourites). Other areas you can check out that are not in the centre are Museumsquartier with Spittelberg, Karmeliterviertel (there's a nice market; Schank zum Reichsapfel is a cute little traditional restaurant), and from the university at Schottentor to Berggasse/Servitengasse (I recently went to Gasthaus Rebhuhn, it was excellent). Ok, I think that's a lot of info for a weekend haha. If you want to know anything else, you can also write to me on instagram :)

🙏❤️🔥🥰 1 Thessalonians 4:11 To make it your ambition and definitely endeavor to live quietly and peacefully, to mind your own affairs, and to work with your hands, as we charged you, 12 So that you may bear yourselves becomingly and be correct and honorable and command the respect of the outside world, being dependent on nobody [self-supporting] and having need of nothing. 13 Now also we would not have you ignorant, brethren, about those who fall asleep [[g]in death], that you may not grieve [for them] as the rest do who have no hope [beyond the grave]. 14 For since we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so God will also bring with Him through Jesus those who have fallen asleep [[h]in death]. 15 For this we declare to you by the Lord’s [own] word, that we who are alive and remain until the coming of the Lord shall in no way precede [into His presence] or have any advantage at all over those who have previously fallen asleep [in Him [i]in death]. 16 For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a loud cry of summons, with the shout of an archangel, and with the blast of the trumpet of God. And those who have departed this life in Christ will rise first. 17 Then we, the living ones who remain [on the earth], shall simultaneously be caught up along with [the resurrected dead] in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air; and so always (through the eternity of the eternities) we shall be with the Lord! 18 Therefore comfort and encourage one another with these words.
