Soft spoken ASMR sleep story about Genghis Khan and the Mongol Empire. Eight hundred years ago, the World was shaken when the Mongols suddenly left their corner of Asia to conquer the largest land empire in History. Join me around the campfire to explore who they were, how they lived, what they believed in and why they could take two continents by storm and build an empire in a few years. I tell you about Genghis Khan and his successors like Ogedei Khan and Kublai Khan, Chinese dynasties, Central Asia, nomadic life, the Silk Road, the Golden Horde, and many more things.

@@FingerBreakerWu To be fair, I start getting drowsy after "Hello Everyone". I fell asleep then woke up halfway through Theory of Relativity for Dummies. So if there was a pop quiz my answers would be like "Gengis Khan discovered the theory of Relativity, while in a haunted house, during the Chernobyl disaster, accompanied by a mermaid, who was painting Girl with A Pearl Earring on a Minecraft server."

It's weird because when you are on KZbin you constantly feel like it's never enough. They almost explicitely tell you to post every week, preferably several times, to do collabs, to answer comments, to repeat the same formats as many times as possible, or your views will drop and you will never make it. They can easily turn you into a hamster in a wheel if you take it too seriously. At the same time, I agree with you: looking back to the past 6 months I realise I have put out many, many hours of videos and that's enough ;).

Wow, I got here early! I saw this and immediately clicked! Ghengis Khan is one of my favorite historical arsonists! The mongols and the steppe people have such a fascinating and incredible history. Do you know they say that Ghengis Khan had RED HAIR? Mind blown. The Mongols did so many awful things but also set forth the world we know today in a lot of ways. Without the advent of the gun, its possible that the Mongols could still be in power today. They were unmatched on horseback, and until guns, and automobiles they were extremely powerful! Anyway I get off of work in a few hours and I know exactly what I'm going to be listening to get to sleep!

@NathanASMR
@NathanASMR 4 жыл бұрын
@@TheWonderfulDavidofOz Heck yes I am. That guy is such a legend. His Ghengis Khan stuff is AWESOMEEEEE, he's the number 1 history podcaster in my opinion. How did you know? Because I used the term historical arsonist? Hahaha. Are you also a fan? But yeah just the way he thinks is fascinating and I always get sucked into it, the way he lays out the domination of the Mongols on horseback and how that horseback tradition continues into the 20th century even, then just within one war (WW1) everything changes and that tradition gets absolutely demolished even after 1000's of years of warfare being relatively similar throughout human history. So having listened to Dan Carlin, now listening to French Whisperer it makes this video even better because of the context! French Whisperer is the Dan Carlin of Informative/Historical ASMR for sure, but an even better voice..

My comment disappeared (thanks youtube) and it was really damn long but in short yeah it’s the most interesting thing I’ve ever learnt in all honesty, the secret of the mongols has everything to know but I recommend everyone to at least read the Wikipedia page, it’s incredible. I think it’s the minimal documentation they have. Like, everything seems to be a mystery, there is literally one picture of him and it’s a drawing, no one knows or will ever know where he is buried, and no one knows exactly how he achieved it. Some say mass suicide, some say soldiers made slaves build it then killed the slaves, then the soldiers were killed by a courier, then the courier returned to tell them he had been buried and then was murdered. There’s a legend that at his birthplace, he was buried with a dead young deer, and his burial site was exposed as the mother of the deer would mourn for her child at the spot. I personally believe that there was a set “suicide squad” tasked with burying him. I mean, they adored him, their loyalty wouldn’t surprise me. Only Genghis Khan (and potentially his first 3 children/wife) and this suicide squad of his closest soldiers + some incredibly unlucky slaves knew of where he would be buried. On their way to the site, they killed anyone who saw or encountered them to cover their tracks (idk if they considered a trail of bodies might give it away) but maybe they hid them. Once they were done building, the slaves were murdered, and the soldiers rode horses over the spot so it wasn’t distinguishable by looks. Just regular flat land. Then, they came back and either: - All committed suicide as a promise - Were killed; they didn’t know they would be killed and were lied to - All of them loved him so much that they wouldn’t dare leak where he was buried - They didn’t deep it that much and no one could be arsed to write down the spot because it wasn’t important. - Never came back; the slaves revolted and murdered all of the soldiers, and proceeded to teabag Genghis’ body, threw him in a river somewhere (or the tomb they built) except they stole all the gold and Genghis finally got caught lacking and died broke and poor. They never tell anyone because they don’t want to get caught. - Didn’t even find his body in the first place; they forgot which soldier was Genghis and panicked so they claimed to have had a grand burial when in reality no one could be arsed to check every body. His story is just insanely morbid but sometimes humorous to me still. He celebrated victory by having dinner on top of captured princes, slowly crushing them to death while having dinner on top (he used a large wooden gate). He also killed 17 million people because someone killed his favourite son in law and he couldn’t find who did it. An archer almost killed him but hit his horse, and at the end of the battle he asked “who shot the arrow” (I’m guessing to guilt him into confession otherwise he kills everyone) and without hesitation the guy stands up and says it was him, and “kill me if you want”. I don’t know how he stood up with his massive balls weighing him down, but Genghis Khan was impressed and he ended up being one of his top military figures. Perhaps the most morbid, I’m referencing from memory of the book and internet, but when trying to capture what is now Beijing, he struggled to get over the walls. Since it was the last place, he opted to just leave them. As in, wait until they surrendered. They had no food, turned to cannibalism, murdering and eating eachother, parents eating children/babies, and when the rich began to struggle for food they surrendered. But Genghis didn’t actually intend for them to live, as they initially rebelled. So he slaughtered the rest, and torched the city, and I remember the book saying there was piles of bones and skulls and the floor was dripping wet (like a flood) of SKIN, FAT and blood, the flames had melted all of the bodies who were being eaten and all the people slaughtered, and you could smell the burning fat and smell of dead bodies and human flesh/meat, disease, shit, trash, EVERYTHING. HOW DID THEY JUST CASUALLY DO THIS TO MILLIONS THEN GO HOME LIKE NOTHING HAPPENED. All of this fascinating story, and what was his most agreed on cause of death? Being flung off a horse. Yep. The worlds most dangerous, influential, successful, loved, evil leader in history died because his horse couldn’t handle how heavy his fatass was. Wow. What an ending.

Your videos are very educational and engaging to listen. Could you do a video about African stories? Like the myth of Anansi, the spider god? Or the history of Mansa Kankan Musa or Hannibal?

I used some of them years ago in various show and tell videos with objects from around the world. They still are in my "show and tell" playlist (available on the front page of my channel, if you click on my name).
