So happy for a new reading video! These are my favorite. I've been reading a lot. Right now to October I am all about spooky books. Favorites this month have been The Weight of Blood and The Babysitter Lives. Starting November 1st I will switch over to happy holiday romances. I read Strange Weather and definitely agree about the story Loaded...hearing you just mention the title brought that whole story back to me in detail.. very powerful.

Ah, I love the seasonality of your reads! ❤ I'm trying to squeeze in as many spooky books in October as I can, too. And I'm so glad you agree with my opinion on 'Loaded'. It was incredible. Take care!! 💝

Currently I'm reading "Sea of Tranquility" by Emily St. John Mandel. I love her writing, it's very lyrical and her descriptions are great. She weaves science fiction and traditional literature fiction together so well. I'm also finally reading Lord of the Rings, just finished The Hobbit and I found it so charming and cozy. For short story recommendation, I love "I,Robot" by Asimov. Murakami has been on my list of authors I want to read for years and I still haven't managed to commit because of the constant comments about how he cannot write female characters. There's enough sadness in life that I don't need artificial and excessive trauma to the extent of "A Little Life". Thank you for sharing your thoughts on the books you've read! One of my all time favorite kinds of ASMR and you've always been great at it 📖❤️

So good hearing your opinion on books again, Marta! I love how detailed you explain what made you like or dislike a specific book. 👌 It does suck when you're ready to immerse yourself into a whole new world, but than that world stays superficial and alien. Hate it xD

I try to make my reviews be actually about what I like or dislike in the book, not just summarizing the plot!! ❤😁 and thank you so much for the comment as always, friend!

yay the book reviews are back ☺️ so happy to have this video this evening!! your reviews are always so thoughtful and brilliantly wording - i trust them explicitly. i’ve not read a little life and i don’t know that i ever will - the thing that really puts me off is that i don’t really understand the authors motive for a plot like that? I can’t think of a reasonable explanation for writing 800 pages of continuous, life destroying, explicit trauma. i think for a book to contain so much brutality against one man, in such detail, there needs to be a WHY or an excuse or a justification and i’m not sure i think there is one in this case. for me, there comes a point where it is just trauma porn and it seems like this is really veering into that description. I don’t know that i want to buy into supporting that, even if it’s spectacularly written. on a lighter note, you’ve reminded me i really want to read the brown sister series, id totally forgotten about them!! my top reads of the last few months have probably been book lovers by emily henry (rom-com) and fire island by jack parlett (non-fiction about the history of fire island and how it came to be the queer “utopia” it is known as, with a particular focus on its link to many literary celebrities and pieces of landmark queer art and literature)

Thank you so SO much for sharing ❤ omg trauma porn, that's it. That's the expression I've been looking for. This is why I have such mixed feelings towards this book because... trauma porn on one hand, exceptional writing and amazing psychological insight on the other. But you are right, there should be a WHY. People tend to say that all of this is trying to show what a light in the dark friendship can be. But... was that it? And thank you for your recommendations! I hope you have an amazing day or night Niamh! 💞
@niamhmassey61722 жыл бұрын
@@asmrmayth yeah and i also think from what i’ve heard the friendships don’t actually provide enough light to make it worth it… i might be wrong i’ve not read the book but i think there would have to be a REAL focus on the four of them as a support system for each other and the light they bring to each other etc and the trauma should be background to that, as a means of exploring this - but i think it seems to have been done the other way and their relationships are almost a way to try and justify the violence and trauma and brutality? correct me if i’m wrong but that’s what i’ve taken from other reviews and having a look at different plot summaries etc. i hope you’ve had a lovely day too, and can’t wait to see what you post next

I feel the same towards Murakami!! I've tried three of his books (1Q84, Kafka on the shore and Sputnik my love) and they were all incredibly disappointing to me. I really tried to understand why people love him so much but I find his characters soo boring and his descriptions of women bodies and personalities insulting, so in the end I gave up :(

I have a love/hate relationship with Murakami. On one hand his books are immersive and present interesting ideas, on the other he cannot write a female character to save his life. His books would be so much better if he just wrote male characters, at least the misogyny wouldn't be so apparent.
@asmrmayth2 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much for sharing!!! And I agree, maybe sticking to only male characters would help a little bit 🤣
