Ooooh so I recently learned that the bigger versions of paperbacks are called 'trade paperbacks'. Here, in NZ, books are released in both hardback and trade paperback format initially, and then once there is the paperback release in the USA, we get the standard size paperback release here too. When I was at a bookshop, the bookseller was telling me that it's the same for other commonwealth countries (Australia, Canada, the UK etc), that is, to have a trade paperback release alongside the hardback edition. Trade paperbacks are usually more expensive than standard size but not as expensive as hardbacks, so it makes buying new releases a lot more accessible! Sorry for the info dump I literally learned about this last week and thought you might also find it interesting :)

Oh wowww, that's so interesting!! I would love if they did that here because I prefer paperbacks anyway! It's always a dilemma when a book I've really been anticipating comes out and I want to buy, but also don't want to spend on the hardback loll!! Thanks so much for your comment! 😍☺🤩
