Ahaha maybe that's a sign for me to switch it up. No but seriously, thank you, somehow I find that really touching! It's a place I really love and it's a joy to share it with you.

Wonderful video - thank you so much. Brings back so many great memories of being in Vienna. Fascinating to see the Flak Towers included.

They are such strange buildings, especially when they're just in the middle of a park... And I'm very happy to hear you enjoyed it, thank you!

@@MelangeASMR I was very impressed by how well you covered a sensitive subject. I've been intrigued to look out over the city and see them whereas they are evidently simply an everyday feature for residents. Keep the wonderful content coming.

Aw thanks, that means a lot. And yeah, they're just there, and it's really only the one in the 6th that is in any way a real part of the city since the Haus des Meeres in it. The others are almost like ghosts.

Vienna is a magnificent city. Not the easiest to navigate by foot in my experience. The Ring Strasse is simple but got lost a few times trying to find my way around to different areas. The prolific parks and open space are magic. Love that walk through the gardens to the Upper Belvedere with views right across Vienna. Beautiful. The subway system is excellent - one of the best ever. One gripe I have with the planning of Vienna though is what they have done with the streetscape around the St Peter's church. Back in 1984 this area was a mecca for gathering of alternative culture with great murals painted on the courtyard and right along the streets. Really good vibes/music/activity in that area that provided a very distinctive, favourable cultural imprint of the city. My return back around 2000 saw it all made into coffee shop culture that totally spoiled that area IMO. Nevertheless, I look forward to my next visit to the middle of Europe where I will use Vienna as a base. Your maps brings back great memories.

The church area was not St Peter's but St Stephen's Cathedral area. The streetscape would likely have been the Stepansplatz region that I have seen you discussing in other videos. Been so long since my visits to Vienna I got the name of the church area incorrect. In 1984 this Stehpanplatz region was vert arty, musical and a great place to meet diverse, interesting people.

Ah that could be, the area around St. Stephen is pretty big and still used for Christmas markets etc whereas St. Peter's only has a relatively small square in front of it. But either way, for me it's hard to imagine an alternative scene there haha, I only know the inner city as bougie/touristy shopping streets. Overall gentrification has, luckily, not been as bas as in some areas of London, for example, but I think it's fair to say that Vienna is a very clean city - with all the ups and downs that entails.

@@MelangeASMR The street life was really vibrant around St Stephens in 1984. An alternative lifestyle on display every night with arts, foods, musicians, buskers. Really interesting. I was disappointed at all the coffee shops that replaced it when I went back 16 years later.

I have lots of my own maps, and little skewer things to point at them with. But I lack your accent and all the other little magical things you possess. So I will keep relying on your video library to fascinate me. Heaven!
