I noticed the “k” and “g” switch and the “t” and “d” switch is the same as Japanese, where it uses the same character to say both, but a small marking (tenten) differentiates the two.
@realmothchu3 жыл бұрын
its the same in korean too !
@majiokko3 жыл бұрын
I think this is because k and g both get produced in the same place in the mouth! t and d and s and z too. The only difference is that one is voiced (g, d, z) and the other is unvoiced (k, t, s)
@rds75163 жыл бұрын
The only difference between those characters is the voicing. K and G are made the same way, you just use your vocal chords with G. Likewise with T and D, P and B, F and V.

Same in Russian (and most Slavic languages i guess) and Kazakh languages! There are paired voiced and voiceless consonants like "g - k", "d - t", "b - p", etc, which change their sound to being voiced or voiceless depending on their placement in the word, or which letters surround them. It's so cool that despite the differences in the development and the languages themselves, they're so many interesting similarities between them!

It's interesting when you talked about comparing the older word to both modern Swedish and modern English. Like the modern word "Bonde" in Swedish coming from the Norse worse "Bunta" and that it meant "husband" at the time was interesting; because the "-band" part of the English word "husband" is from the same origin (The "hus" part coming from the word for "house"), showing how even though the meanings of these words change and diverge from each other over time all these common origins between related languages can still be traced. Not a linguist myself, but always found that aspect fascinating
