First gear review of many! This is the ASP 21" Federal collapsible baton. I also review my favorite ASP attachment, which is the Tactical Triad 240 lumen LED flashlight. Thanks for watching; this product is highly recommended for non-lethal force and self-defense. Check your local laws before carrying or using this weapon! Please comment, and subscribe for future reviews on guns, knives, and tactical gear!

I've been an EMT for many years and have carried the 16 with the flashlight attachment. Because of its compact size, no one suspects otherwise. I've only had an handful of instances where I have needed the baton, and an even smaller amount where I've had to use it. The times I was forced to draw it immediately deterred people.

Great video. For law enforcement personnel and home protectors there is an ASP baton that some tactical stores sell that already have that flash light attachment sold with the baton. I think I've seen it sold for a bill or bill and a half. Well worth it in my opinion.

What's with the CAPS? It was NICE OF YOU to FINALLY explain YOURSELF. I have not seen or heard anyone complain about the run time on the light either.... but yeah, it is not meant for a EDC flashlight.

Now they have a pocket model the p16 and p12. Thin knurled aluminum grip (think mini maglite) and made of aluminum with steel tip. Perfect for EDC and security guards who may want (or depending on assignment have) to be concealed. Has a pocket clip and multiple spots to make it sit low or high in the pocket

@MrQuackism Generally jabs are used in the closed position on the solar plexus as a means to move someone back before extending the baton. No, it won't close on soft tissue. In order to break the friction loc, it needs to experience hig frequency shock... as in hitting a very hard surface. (It's more the vibration than the actual pushing force that breaks the loc.)

I like the ASP pepper sprays that act as a kubaton also. They are legal in most areas and very effective at non-contact distances and up close. That is not to say the baton does not have its place though. Great review.

@silentknight2112 Glad you liked the video brother. I know the ASP is not made in 31" anymore but there are a few places you can still find it so I figured I would mention it (I should have noted that, I will annotate). I am not not LE, but active duty MIL working with State Department, so I have a lot of training with them.

depends on the situation imo. i agree with the answer provided below for you however on the streets you'd want to use something that you cannot be used against you. for in home purposes i would use a bb gun with the ammo kept in a separate area

I love batons from from ASP, i can carry one comfortable in my pocket without leaving much a fotprint, and extended they have the force of breaking bones. one or two heavy hits usually makes an attacker fall to the ground or run away in fear.
@piketactical
@piketactical 13 жыл бұрын
@MrQuackism If it was extended properly it would definitely not collapse against a thigh. You could also use the grip end to hit with or use against pressure points as well. Good question.

@Eslamizar Nice. I have to say, I think that my second favorite attachment after the light would be a spike. It is pretty brutal. It is put out by third party (not ASP brand) and I have seen them on ebay for just a few dollars. I am considering getting one for my duty baton
@divine0enigma
@divine0enigma 13 жыл бұрын
@MrQuackism The baton really isn't most effectively used as a "jabbing" weapon anyway. The way most police and military are trained to use it is in a downward slashing motion. We collapse it by pointing it straight at the ground (on concrete or hard surface) and slamming it downward.
@piketactical
@piketactical 13 жыл бұрын
@MrQuackism If you have never used one, take my word for it. You need to hit it directly on the tip on a very solid surface with a good amount of force for it to collapse. A leg is not solid enough to collapse it, nor is it likely that you would hit directly on the tip. I assure you it would not collapse in the situation you presented

@Netbug
@Netbug 13 жыл бұрын
@usmcboyer Yeah, it's funny watching guys try to close them for the first time in training... they don't want to break them so go easy and nothing happens, or it only collapses the first section. Even the second try doesn't work sometimes. You just have to get it into your head to slam the thing down pretty much as hard as you can. I extended mine in a mall once and had to walk out to the parking lot in order to close it... would've shattered the tile for sure.

It's the fault of the flashlight if people are using it wrong? The flashlight is designed to be used exactly as I stated, to illuminate a target before striking while the baton is in the ready position. How would you effectively use a baton at night while holding a flashlight? If you have ever had training you know that you almost ALWAY use your hands in combat while using a baton, and not having a free hand severely puts you at a disadvantage. Your talking about poor training not bad product.

Honestly, not really. The female part is NOT the issue, the lack of training is. If you get one you need to train with it, like any weapon that you wish to be effective. As far as training with it you could look up videos and practice at home or call local martial art gyms and see if they offer any classes. With training you would be good to go

I agree with what he said, training is key, other wise if you get in to a situation where you have to use it, the assailant can disarm you and use it against you. Your best bet for now is probably peperspray, maybe a taser, but again for a taser you should train with it. Things like a baton, knife, brass knuckles etc... are more up close and personal things, with OC spray or a taser the goal is to subdue the attacker and GTFO
