I have seen a scuffle break out at a rugby game. There was one guy vs 3 and it got pretty intense. The interesting thing I gathered was how the one guy went from boxing the three (attackers) to then grabbing a large industrial bolt that he somehow picked up when creating a gap and used it as a baton. It was like scuffle scuffle scuffle (screaming all over from spectators), from the scuffle there is a break away, a gap created. During the break away which is like seconds he sees the bolt and picks it up. He now creates a barrier and the scuffle changes tempo. The cops and security at the game come in to intercept the situation. Basically he survives the situation.

I would also recommend them as an option for people that were barricaded in an active shooter event. If the killer got through the door and was immediately ambushed by a few people with batons, I don't think they'd be taking many aimed shots. Great review! Thanks for bringing those to my attention. I didn't know CS was making batons.

@marckydasaint873020 күн бұрын
Agreed. I would go for the arm holding the knife, it's a much larger target, and probably more diffusing as the particular arm holding the knife will likely be what hand they are ( Left-handed or Right-handed).

I have two Batons the same as yours. I have a 21 and a 26 inch model. I have only carried them a few times. And have never needed to use one against anyone. Years ago when I was young, I had special pockets sewn in my Levis cordroy dark blue western jackets. In the pocket I carried a set of Nunchaku. I trained for hours a day with those being involved in Martial Arts since childhood. Only one time did I ever use my Nunchaku. In the parking lot of a club, when I was leaving. This guy was looking for a fight and came at me with a broken beer bottle. I pulled out my Nunchaku, I swung it at him hitting him in the side of the head. He dropped like a stone to the ground. I made sure he was okay and I left. But my Nunchaku stopped that attack immediately. An impact weapon like a Baton or Nunchaku in my opinion, is a versatile defense tool. And it is far safer and offers more controlable outcomes than a taser or a knife. And I carry knives everyday. I call my Batons, "The Expandables."

Word of advice for most people: do NOT use nunchucks as self-defense tools. Not only do they lose a substantial amount of force due to less leverage and ability to follow through a strike, they are also dangerous to the wielder. For most people, a stick of comparable size to nunchucks will be more effective.
@hardrock182611 ай бұрын
@@kalamari3288 I would never recommend anyone use Nunchaku as a self defense tool. Because to use them effectively and in such a manner that you don't hurt yourself takes years of training. In addition, similar to using a Baton you need to learn how to control your strikes. So that you don't impact an area that can do serious damage or even cause death. In my trials over the years Nunchaku don't lose any impact force. Leverage is not a factor in their use. What is a factor is Centrifugal Force and couple that with the speed that can be generated, they can impact heavier than a Baton. Using a stck is a safer way to go. But it doesn't look as cool.
@Skatelifefool3 ай бұрын
I'm going to believe that you did in fact use a nunchaka in self defense one time.
@hardrock18263 ай бұрын
@@Skatelifefool Absolute fact. I wasn't long out of the Military when that happened. But since being a kid, Martial Arts dominated my life. I trained seven days a week in different disciplines. And backed it all up with Zazen Meditation that I learned as a child. A lot of things happened over the many years. So I have a lot of stories of past events. It has been a long hard life. And it's not getting any easier. I recently lost my Wonderful Wife of 52 years to an unexpected Cardiac Arrest. Losing the Girl I Love so very much has destroyed me. But I'm surviving even though I miss her every second that passes. My Heart doesn't beat the same without her around. Be careful out there and be ready. As they say, "life comes at you fast." All The Best.

My main less-lethal is a baton. I have taught weapon use for 20 years and I can verify that a baton is a real problem for the other guy. A few notes if you don't mind me adding - yeah, they can break bones... but realistically just ones close to the surface. If you are looking to break something aim for the joints. Conversely, if you are looking to sit someone down without permanent damage go after their meatier parts. - Batons are less lethal, not non-lethal. A baton to the head can end a person real quick if you are not careful.

had one in the military as a non lethal option, along with pepper spray and a taser, and of course a gun if it came to that. A baton in the hands of a person who knows how to use it can be effective against multiple attackers. You could kill someone with a full power blow to the head, which is why we were trained not to go for the head, but fleshy areas such as the inner/outer thighs and upper arms. It will definitely break bones.

I love your vids!! and I love Cold Steel! Been buying their products for years. PB and True Flight Throwers, SRK, Trench Hawk, any many more. AWESOME PRODUCTS! ALWAYS been happy! UNTIL.....I bought this baton. I didn't even test it on anything, just played with it, opening/closing. Didn't even open it that hard as they are a pain to close. The thinnest segment just popped right out. I couldn't believe it! I have a no name cheap flea market baton that I bought over 20 years ago for $25. I've opened/closed it 1000s of times, play with it all the time. Never had an issue. So when the end of of two week old Cold Steel baton just popped out like that I was shocked! The thinnest segment is too short, it needs to extend into the center segment by another half inch. And the steel is WAY TOO soft for a baton. I tried fixing it with a hammer and couldn't believe how soft and weak the steel was. I guess this is just what happens when a product is made in China. I can only imagine if I had to use this in an emergency situation and it just fell apart like that. TRUST ME! spend %50-%75 percent more! and get something better! Sorry Cold Steel! But this is an EPIC FAIL!!

Training with then can kick your butt. we did 2 min drills going from strikes to blocks you do that along with all the other training and dam by the end your lucky you can lift your arms. Your right thugs don't really fear the Baton as much as a gun or blade. and if your going to use a baton TRAINING IS A MUST!!! knowing how to deploy it When to deploy it , whats behind / next to you when deploying it. how to carry it. i had 1 guy i hit a few times but he was so focused on beating the other guy the baton had no affect on him

As a retired LEO, my preference was the solid 24 inch poly baton, over the expandable. When training in the use of a straight baton, the primary technique was the two handed thrust to the torso, including the solar plexus One handed strikes were the secondary response. Being the solid baton is the same diameter of the whole length, a two handed grip is much more secure, than gripping the narrow telescopic steel tubes of the telescopic. If the solid baton is used for striking, i believe it can produce for kinetic force, than the expandable. Finally, the most common disadvantage of the friction lock expandable baton, is if it collapses when being used. If one portion retracts during usage, then trying to use it effectively is almost impossible, because it must be completely closed and then reopened again.

@drakke125Channel - And the biggest, scariest thing about it all is..... .... people don't practice shooting. I practice often. I buy boxes of 50 to 200 weekly, shoot 20 to 30 of them. I used to shoot sporting clays once a week, that's 100 rounds of 12g at moving targets but my resource changed. But my goal is to aim small, not just head but eyes. Chest but a 3 inch circle in between and just above the nipples. And the crotch. If you break the hip bone, they cannot pursue you. The bleeding it would cause would be heavy enough to need medical within 2 minutes. We cannot get stagnant. Crazy is here. But the wick is a little longer than I thought. How long? It has to blow soon.....

If you really don't want any trouble you carry spray and stay away. Then if that doesn't work you pull something like this, or more, and get into it. The reason for so much psychology in my comments is that I question my own capacity for violence and think that many who don't probably should. Maybe a video topic for you. I'd like to see that. ;-)

The fact of these being standard police patrol kit on both sides of the Atlantic Ocean is a indication of their effectiveness. They're illegal to carry on the streets in England unless yr a copper on duty. Self-defence weapons carried here have to be disguised, so I carry a shellacked bamboo "walking stick" for a "knee injury" - if I'm ever ?'d over it by the police. I haven't been, but I've seen a few coppers go by glancing at it with a wry smile suspecting what it is & seeing that I'm not the kind to use as a street criminal, or you might carry a weight of some sort in your pocket that has another (lawful) use, but if necessary can be used quickly to increase fist heft. Foot-work (retreating to an assailant's advance) to keep the target in a striking distance zone is key to using arm's length weapons, and needs - as you say - to be practiced, as does using it in motion, as the muscles in the particular arms it uses are usually underdeveloped for it. A firm grip whilst maintaining a loose wrist also seems to work better, increasing the flexibility of the arm's motion + weight of the strike. Well presented film with good advice, thx

I carry one for animals and certain self defense situations , mainly knives or other clubs, sticks . It's going to give me some distance . And I'm not naive to the horrors of knives, I have LOTS of training . But compared to NOT having one I'll take it . I agree the goal is to break bones , people can take INCREDIBLE amounts of damage under adrenaline or drugs so you got to try and make that limb unable to function. I carry mine in my back pocket , have for years . Between it, my knives and CCW it's the fastest thing I can deploy and create space with . It's in my hand the instance I think something might go sideways . What great about that is I haven't "pulled" a knife of pistol in that super rare event of things getting reported to police . Overall I actually consider it my main OFFENSIVE weapon for hand to hand . Everything else I carry is defensive , 100% life threatening situations. But with impact weapons you can control the damage done more so than other weapons. In fact I keep an axe handle in my car for the same reason after all the riots where I live. I prefer them to bats even because the shape concentrates the impact better . You get a compound fracture for sure with an axe handle . But after all that I am very happy to say the only thing I've ever had to use my baton for is clearing storm drains . I hope it stays that way.

I bought one as an easy way to carry a big stick while exercise walking in the city, primarily for defense against off leash dogs who were not friendly. Never had to deploy it for that purpose though, which is fine with me. I'd hate for an adversary to have one though.

Out walking or hiking, batons are useful dealing with all but the largest wild animals and poorly trained dogs. Simply snapping one open is likely to get them to break off their attack.

Disadvantage of doubling up on all those items is retention, if they were trying to be wrestled away by several attackers, it could be very difficult to prevent it.

I... you... you know our government forces typically carry ASP batons for less lethal force, right? ASP's weapons are legendary, and you can't just buy them as a civilian. Stick to guns if you want them to fear you.

You can't carry those in my state thanks to our cowardly lawmakers. So when I go to unsafe places I throw on my super long California framing hammer with sharpened claws for demolition work. If you sharpen them correctly most people can't tell. I'd actually rather have it than a baton. There's a reason warhammers were so popular back in the day.

My opinion as a shooting stab and strike weapon enthusiast". I think the Baton is the best self-defense weapon against a knife. Because in my country most weapons are knives. I carry a Glock 17 , but that is also a deadly option. Gun vs knife no win for knife. baton vs knife is better. a knife for me is a backup for my gun. but with all you have to practice. and apply in every different sernario

My girlfriend has a client, high profile body guard he apparently had to use a SAP last week to fight off 6 people. He took a beating, he wanted to shoot them but he conscious stopped him from doing so. He will be here tomorrow, so I'm sure I will get more details. Anyway, he survived, despite taking a licking himself.

13,21 or 26 inches? What length of baton has the most advantage is self defense weather it's close quarters combat or out in the open?
@411Outdoors7 ай бұрын
I really like the 21 inch the best. It sits right in the middle. Not too long or short.

I will say the 13 inch does interest me a little bit just because I love leather saps so much, but they are highly regulated and that’s about the length of a sap
