I have this engine. Could you tell me the carb setting please. Having trouble tuning it. Thank you

The adjustment is tricky, I adjust the high speed needle valve first then adjust the low speed needle value on the throttle body. The high speed may need to be adjusted again and then the low speed, remember to lift the plane upwards at full throttle to see if it splutters. I run it rich first then gradually get leaner as the engine wears in, meaning more adjusting of both needles when setting it leaner. Remember rich it sounds like a 4 stroke, lean like a 2 stroke. The glow plug I use is A3/number 6 but the one I used started playing up after a few hours of running as apparently all the aluminium that’s worn away during the run-in coats the element making it cooler. A guy who has flown for years suggested to use an old glow plug when I first start it for the session, then when it warms it up replace it with a good glow plug, that way the old glow plug will burn off the wd40, machine oil etc that is used when it is stored after use. Doing it this way it has been running a lot better.

I noticed with mine you really have to warm the engine up before flying. Seems to be a bit sensitive around the mid range. It also is a bit hard to start from cold, you really need to prime a lot ?. Maybe just me it's a fairly new engine.

Building RC Planes os no 8 its the only one i use in all my 2 strokes.

I did have similar issues and did a test on a range of glow plugs and found that an A3/No 6 ran the best and it's what I use now. It usually starts first go and runs pretty reliable using the A3.

OK thanks I'll try that. Its early days yet only had about 3 tanks so far so I think I'm expected a bit much from a new engine.

I dont think i was priming it enough. I tried 6-8 turns and it started first go.

i just bought these engines for my cessna 337 81inches wing span. it requires 2 actually. I need to know if the engines only spin one way or does it depend on how you spin it.

Also where can i find the manual for this engine. I have searched everywhere but cannot find the manual. I need this to know the type of spinner i should buy and the propellers. thanks.

Hi, I am planning to buy this engine.Do you suggest that? Is this engine quality and flawless? Still I don't know either shall I buy ASP52 or OS55AX.As you know OS engines a bit expensive.What is your advice?

Tamer Öztürk If you want engine quality then go with OS, this one is just ok. I have spent a bit of time getting it to run right and it still plays up. If I was to do it again I'd probably go OS as they run great out of the box.

OS engine more expensive as you know that's why I thought ASP.In this case OS going to be better option.As far as I see, ASP52 has got adjustment problem regarding carburator and high speed needle as well as material quality.Isn't it? Thanks.

Tamer Öztürk Hey buddy, the problems that I'm having is it needs a lot of attention compared to the OS that I have. Mainly in tuning, expect to get some practice with emergency landings when the engine stops. You will use one glow plug during break in where after around 2 hours of running it will stop working due to aluminium binding to the element. I found A3 glow plugs to work the best and due to putting light engine oil or WD40 in after each run to stop rusting, I use an old glow plug to start the engine for the first time and warm up, then I take the glow plug out and put one in that I just use when flying. Otherwise the engine run well but I have heard that I will most likely have to replace the bearings soon as the ones in the engine aren't that good.

Engines should not be based on one specific test. I currently have a ASP four stroke engine, and have flown it on a 1/5 Cessna. Extremely easy to tune, plenty of power at half throttle, and overall good powerband. hobbyking.com/en_us/asp-fs120ar-four-stroke-glow-engine.html Fuel type, prop, fuel tank location in relation to carb, all play part on the time of judging a rc engine. * Never use WD40 on rc engines (you are clueless), it eats up the oil seals. You must use Castor oil in the nitro fuel for the bearings to hold, mine dont give me any issues. Its obvious this guy is biased and trying to put down ASP. To know if you have a reliable engine you need easily one to two gallons for full break-in. There are many OS engines which are unreliable and require carb modification and sleeve porting to work.

In the engine manual is states "when storing the engine for a period longer than two weeks, a shot of WD-40 should be injected on to the piston cylinder and through the carburetor..." obviously the manufacturer is clueless you had better let them know. Oh and your's 5x times more expensive, it is a four stroke, it has rings, for that price I would want it to be bloody good. Now that is has almost been a year the summary is, I get a lot more "dead-stick" practice with the ASP as compared with the OS.
