My 25 year old son has Autism. I didn’t recognise it in his childhood as it wasn’t really spoken about. He did go for extra tuition as he had trouble naming objects. He knew exactly what they were, but he couldn’t process it properly. He loved having boundaries, is about as honest as it gets, and if plans change…..it’s not pretty lol. I adore him. He runs his own floor laying business, has a home, a long term girlfriend, but can still be uncomfortable with people. I’m so proud of him.

You're a good Mom. My Mom would call me a bum and told me no woman would ever tolerate me. I believed her. Once I asked her what she was drinking. She said "coffee." I asked if I could have some (I was like 3) and she told me that it would make me have breasts like a woman and to this day I have never even so much as tried coffee. She had no idea how literally I took what she told me. One odd thing about my version of the syndrome is that I remember everything including birth and beyond. Everything.

Oh gosh, I’m female in my early 60’s, I wasn’t diagnosed until I was in my mid 50’s. It was such a relief, as I had struggled all of those years wondering why I wasn’t quite the same as my peers and everyone else. Life was so difficult, as a very little girl I knew I was going to be a loner, and I really didn’t want that. But that’s what I have become. I love animals and feel so comfortable around them, and they seem to like me! I have a good job that really suits my condition, doing very detailed planning, but working from home, alone of course. It’s been tough, but at least now I know why. Thank you for your content, it helps xx

60 myself and I only learned 3 years ago. I know the feeling of relief alright. Do you know something though? I am glad I never knew. I lived life the hard way, with no special concessions and so I learned to fight for myself, to toughen up as a sailor and in the army, and through many adventures on both sides of the law which force one to become more than an easier life might have made them. Today I know I am a very formidable man mentally and physically and emotionally. I look at my peers, some of whom I've known since childhood and none of their lives appeal to me more than my own. They seem so shallow and limited in their awareness of life, the planet, and all the different cultures on it. Because not fitting in anywhere, actually shields one from parochialism and bigotry I think. Plus once I figured out how my brain is miswired, I've learned I've got insane pattern recognition and a video-like memory which is almost a superpower now I've learned to work it. I used to think I was an alien. Now I know I am. 👽🤗

Jesus loves you more than you could ever know. He understands what you are going through and He does care and would love to give you a peace that this world can never give you. He wants to heal your heart and mind if you would only turn to Him. There is life after death and the most important decision you will ever make is where you will spend eternity, but there are only 2 places you can spend eternity, heaven or hell. The Bible says that you can know that you have eternal life in heaven, but If you are putting your trust in anything other than the finished work of Jesus on the cross to get you to heaven, you do not understand God's way. Please let me share with you how you can be 100% sure you are heading in the right direction. The Bible says that we are all sinners. When God created Adam and Eve, He made them perfect without sin, but they chose to disobey God and became sinful in nature. This sin nature was passed down to all humanity. Romans 5:12 Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned: Your sin separates you from God. Romans 3:23 For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God; A holy, righteous God cannot allow sin into heaven. Sin must be paid for and God's price for sin is death, but not just a physical death, but a spiritual death which means separation from God forever in a lake of fire in hell. Revelation 21:8 But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death. In the Old Testament when man sinned, God required the sacrifice of a perfectly spotless lamb as a substitute to pay for the sins of each person. The blood of that lamb was only a temporary payment for their sin and so this had to be done often. Jesus Christ, God's Son took on flesh, was born of a virgin, lived a sinless life and offered Himself as that perfect, spotless Lamb and shed His blood as payment for the sins of the whole world. John 1:29 The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world. Jesus loved you so much He WILLINGLY came and allowed wicked men to spit on Him, mock Him and scourge Him until He was unrecognizable as a man. They stripped him naked, thrust a crown of thorns on His head and nailed His hands and feet to a cross. He hung in agony for hours bleeding, thirsting, struggling for every breath. He died innocently in your place so that you could be saved from going to hell. It was His blood that satisfied the just demands of a holy God. God will not accept anything else. There is no greater love than that! John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. The good news is that Jesus didn't stay dead in the grave. He came back to life 3 days later just like He promised and He still lives today! Matthew 28:5 And the angel answered and said unto the women, Fear not ye: for I know that ye seek Jesus, which was crucified. 6. He is not here: for he is risen, as he said. Come, see the place where the Lord lay. Friend, Jesus did all this because He wants to give you the FREE gift of eternal life in heaven with Him! You cannot do anything to earn your own way into heaven. You can't work for it, be baptized for it, go to church for it or try to be good enough for it. You must stop believing that you can get there on your own merit. It is a FREE gift that God is offering to you if you will simply receive it by faith. Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. Ephesians 2:8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: 9. Not of works, lest any man should boast. God said there is only one way to get to heaven, but it is not hard. You must admit you are a sinner headed for hell and you can't save yourself. You must believe that Jesus died and paid for your sin with His own blood on the cross, then He was buried and 3 days later rose from the dead. Then you must repent and turn to God and call on Him for mercy to save you from hell and give you eternal life in heaven with Him. Romans 10:9 that if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. 10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. 13. For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. None of us deserve God's mercy and grace, but let me warn you friend, don't be deceived because if you reject His FREE gift, you are already condemned and when you die, you will suffer the torment of burning in hell for eternity in a lake of fire where you will be forever separated from God and all that is loving and good. John 3:18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. Revelation 20:15 And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire. Please don't wait! Don't take the risk of putting it off until another day, repent, turn to Christ NOW wherever you are at because you aren't guaranteed to live another day on this Earth. Believe God's Word, ask Him to save you and He will do it just like He promised. I'm watching on a computer. I'm not officially diagnosed but recognized what I am earlier this year after discovering what Asperger's was (I was looking it up after reading about David Byrne's description of himself). Finding a description of myself that explained the social problems (not getting along with others, ostracism, bullying at school etc.) that I've encountered during the past 69 years as well as why I am so focused on my technical interests was a revelation. At last I found where I sit in a world really I don't like living in. The eye contact thing: as Morpheus said in The Matrix "I know exactly what you mean". It IS as if I am opening my soul to someone and it is intensely uncomfortable. I slowly became aware during my 40s that I was doing this in long discussions about some pet subject. I think on one level it was like "I am sending a message but I don't know what". When I occasionally did in a social setting I usually got such a hostile return stare that I quickly shut down. My obsessive interest - electronics - indeed became my lifelong earner. It started as a hobby when I was about 7 years old. Because I knew it so well by the time school had ended for me I was able to get a job easily and make it my own. All without a degree or formal study. And I LOVE designing at component level most of all. The aim every time: maximum simplicity and elegance for minimum cost, circuit board size, component count and originality - I do not copy what others have done. One of my ex-colleagues at the polytechnic where I worked as a technician once said to me that "your designs are strange but they always work". I took that as a huge compliment coming from a PhD. Sorry for the rant. You just described me in stark detail. I identify with every point you made (and I am not being wise after the fact). I am what I am and at last I know what that is. Thankyou.

I’m almost 50 and suspect I am on the spectrum. My biggest thing that holds me back is the social aspect. I am pretty smart and have always wanted to work in the medical field but as soon as I think about having to work with a team of people and all that it entails, I feel panicked. It is one of my obsessions but sadly will never happen because I just can’t get past the unknowns of working with strangers. I’ve learned to “fit in” in my little circle of church and friends and I don’t think anyone has a clue how anxious I get in those settings. Thank you so much for this video and for letting me know I’m not alone in my struggles.

My obsession with repetitive patterns, my attention to detail, my appreciation for the subtle shades of meaning found in vocabulary, and my special interest in Spanish (specifically Spanish grammar) led me to a 29 year career as a Spanish teacher. Spanish is not my first language, but the logic behind the grammar, the protocols with few irregularities, the beautiful simplicity of phonetic spelling, again with few irregularities, all played into my Aspie strengths.

My son has Aspergers and we are currently battling to not lose Spanish from his curriculum because they want to move him into a smaller group in order to manage him better within the school. He is only in year seven. They want to change his timetable and drop the languages completely for his entire schooling. He appears to have a talent for Spanish and enjoys it so it bothers me a lot. It’s a hobby of mine, hace veinte años que estudio español, and we get to share this now. I was looking forward to how this would develop for him and I know it represents a potentially good grade for him in the future. He may decide to pursue languages in the future and you have just highlighted that that could be possible. It’s quite upsetting for me. Thanks for your comment.

@@machinegunk5090 A.S.D. presents itself differently in different individuals. But the Aspergers part of the spectrum often comes with particular "talents" and "special interests" that can lead to a strong connection with certain topics. If you child is enjoying Spanish, or any other class / topic, it would be counterproductive to take that away, even if it is challenging. In my Spanish classroom I taught a variety of kids with a variety of different conditions, A.S.D (including Aspergers), A.D.H.D., F.A.S.D., concussions, physical disabilities (including motor skills), etc. Some of the students had the benefit of a Spec. Ed. support person in the classroom, others had access to an Academic Success support class for additional guidance when needed, and modifications were made to curriculum materials to accommodate the students' I.E.P. (Individual Education Plan). I would communicate with the school and your child's I.E.P. advocate to seek other workable options which will allow your child to remain in a mainstream classroom and the classes they enjoy and in which they show an interest.
@machinegunk50902 жыл бұрын
@@tofersiefken Thank you for the reply. We are certainly in communication with the school over this. The smaller group is still in mainstream but appears to be their way of using my son’s classroom assistant to also teach other children whilst removing him from the core subjects so he doesn’t disrupt other children. This would involve juggling the timetable, hence losing the Spanish and adding extra English. Some of the pupils in this small group would have a reading age of 8. My son’s reading age is currently about 12, he’s 11. I wonder whether they can actually do this? They are undervaluing the languages greatly in my opinion. And I don’t know how his full potential with Spanish- but his pronunciation is always superb. Thanks again.

@@lilgit9969 The worst part is, as a kid, I had trouble fitting in with "normies". I didn't have a word for it then, but I was different from almost everyone. I still get the side-eyes from relatives. It's like they couldn't forgive that I was into exploring outside and learning all about the animals, plants, rocks, etcetera. I was "weird". Different. It doesn't matter anymore. The worst part is I remember a lot of random things, some big, some small. When I will bring up a long-ago memory to a relative, a positive one or a funny one, they will look at me like I have a third eye on my head. They get uncomfortable because they don't remember, and I get the feeling they think I made it up. Always the side-eye, I don't even know what it means when they give me that and act uncomfortable. I got the side-eye for remembering an aunt's name, she was the ex-wife of one of my uncles. He was showing me pictures another relative gave him, and he had a 5x7 of a woman with sort of a bee-hive (1970's bouffant hairdo). I paused, as did he. He was only married to her for about 10 years, if that. I blurted, "Oh, that's aunt So-And-So!" He raised his brows and was about to exclaim something. He was surprised and caught off guard, I guess. But then he raised his eyes and looked directly at me, like he forgot he was talking to me. He squinted suspiciously and said slowly, "Yes. That's her." No smile. I think I wasn't supposed to remember who it was. (How could I forget this woman's blue or pink hair, and her cinched-waist dresses that looked similar to 1950's dresses?) I swear to God, growing up back home in the rural parts, it was frustrating that girls are supposed to be stupid (or perhaps they were supposed to be good at their studies but also know their places, and not be so clever). I was the weird one of the family, while my cousins and sister, adored by all, were proper girls, dresses and all, and none of them did anything scientific at all unless it was in the curriculum. My point in this long story is this: people with autism symptoms have trouble fitting in because they aren't like the rest. Some people never forget the weirdness of such a child. While one can get better at masking, or because perhaps someone helps them see a better way to fit in, it doesn't mean the core person isn't there. I, also, get really tired after a lot of interactions with people. It's the quiet life for me from here on out; the kids are all gone, and I'm down to one cat and my spouse.

I'm not sure how to comment here, but I would like to talk about my circumstances that have been my life and how I can get from where I am to where I am supposed to be,.!? For the past year I've followed Dr. Jordan Peterson and that has helped me to Internally articulate and act more according to what I feel is right and good and meaningful. I have 7 kids from 7yrold to 22yr old have a business that is getting further and further behind since my divorce 3 or 4 Year ago we were together from my age 18 and her 16 until I was 38 and I'm 43! My social life was completely centered around my family and I had other people that took care of my business and now Iits just me and I can't keep things organized.i used to think that I just put on a business face when I did and do business but looking back and now at the present I can see that the mask is something I keep on unless I feel safe and that's just with my kids. I haven't dated since being married and I now just spend my time with my 3 youngest son's and daughter and try to keep my business going but I feel like my kids are growing up and I'm just going to be alone. I'm not sure what to do I don't think medicine is a complete awnser and I don't have health insurance so there's that! Side note my 10 year old son had his first day of football practice which I'm really excited about for him but I m afraid to talk to anyone because it will just become obvious that I'm odd and we'll there's that! I was volunteering as a firefighter and I was able to make it through everything except the physical test at the end because I injured my shoulder,it's probably the biggest letdown for me that I can think of it makes me feel meaningless and I started because I love it and now,gone until I can fix my shoulder somehow? I could talk for hours more but I need to get my boys to sleep another day is coming is here! I've read a few comments and felt like maybe it would help to try to connect maybe something else is wrong with me? Is there ever any group meetings where there can be real time life contact via video and audio?

Autism has such stigma. A few years back, one of my autistic friends invited me to a group on Facebook called Slightly Autistic. At first I thought it was a joke, but I joined. I soon learned that I had a lot of the characteristics. I then realized a couple of my siblings also had these traits. I tried to speak to one of them and she blurted, "We're fine! We don't have any problems!" I said, "It isn't bad. I just think it's useful to know. To which my sister again blurted, "Well, it doesn't change anything!" I said, "NO, but it would have been helpful if I knew when I was younger, maybe?" And my sister gave me a Look, it's the one where she might think I'm being a little crazy or Making Stuff Up. It's so dumb that Autism has such a stigma. I think all people see is the bad parts of it, or the people with the most Autism are the ones that make the papers (mostly for bad reasons).

I’m an adult, 57 years old, and believe I have Asperger’s, but haven’t been diagnosed. When I was younger I was told I was too loud so many times that now I’m often told I’m too quiet. All of these points describe me perfectly, especially the idea of routines. If my morning routine is interrupted or changed, I panic and know I’ll have a difficult day. People I know really well, I usually get their jokes, but I struggle with jokes I’m not expecting. If I’m sure a joke is coming, I do pretty well, but still miss them fairly often. I have problems with social interaction until I’m really comfortable with the people involved. At work, when I work with a team for a long time, I start feeling comfortable. Change one person and it gets awkward. Sounds, touch, smell and food texture really overwhelm me.

The choice is yours to make. ---------------------------------------------------------------- If you would like more information or don't have a church to attend, we livestream our services and would love for you to join us. Excellent video! I have a 31 year old son with classic Asperger’s. Incidentally, he is a stickler for pointing out when someone gets tiny details wrong. He was diagnosed at age 6, & the early intervention helped make him the high functioning adult he is today. So when he was diagnosed, as a child HE initiated learning everything about it himself. That was almost his first fixation- learning about Hans Asperger, the Austrian doctor who discovered it. He pointed out to me AND the school psychologist we were mispronouncing it (funny coming from a 6 yr old!) -as Dr. Asperger was Austrian & spoke German, where all ‘G’’s are Hard G’s. He was always correcting adults on factual things…& he’d be correct. His bookcase in his room was like a reference library! One thing you didn’t mention about Asperger’s & what separates them from people on the rest of the spectrum, is they have ‘gifted’ or ‘genius’ IQ’s. Other degrees of Autism show lower IQ’s, even lower than average. Many of the great minds in history- you mentioned Tesla, but also Einstein, Thomas Edison, Ben Franklin & more than I can recall now, had brilliant minds, but very awkward socially & poor social skills (before practical intervention!). My son had a dream of becoming a science uni professor, but his social anxiety brought him down so he couldn’t handle the pressures of university, nearly put him over the edge. Family doesn’t understand- they say “but he’s so bright he should be doing something with that brilliant mind”. He also suffers from ADD, anxiety & depression so working as a manager in a restaurant is all he can handle. But because he can handle it he’s happy & has a GF now…so now, as long as he’s happy & has been able to hold down this job for 10 years now, I know he’s doing well. You sound like a very bright, well informed young man yourself.

My grandson at junior school was classed as disruptive. Once he went to High School he was diagnosed with asperger's and high functioning autism. He was brilliant at many subjects especially physics. He went on from high school to college and did so well he got a place at University where he qualified in Mechanical Engineering with first class honours. So proud of him . Just shows you don't judge a book by its cover. My late husband was also on the spectrum. Little eye contact but was intensely into photography, stamp collecting. Took me all over the UK to Air Shows. That was his main passion. Miss his little quirks and his humour. Asperger's is just a different way of wiring in the brain as I told my grandson when at an early age he wanted to know why he was different. Never ever see him as different. He is who he is.

He can tell you everything about the American Presidents. He doesn’t get elementary books. He wants books on countries or the USA. He loves reading about natural disasters. The list goes on. He has social issues, mainly at school. He is a very literal person. Definitely doesn’t understand sarcasm or humor. I’m a very animated person with a lot of humor and comedic sarcasm. I’m in my 50s and I’ve only started wondering in the past year or so about whether I’m on the spectrum. I was a weird child who always preferred playing by myself. My pediatrician told my mother I needed to go to preschool because I wasn’t developing any social skills, and he thought being around other children would help me develop social skills. In a way, it did, because I learned how to deal with other people, but I still preferred playing by myself. I’ve always thought of myself as an extreme introvert, but I never considered being on the spectrum until I started learning about Aspergergers. I do seem to fit most of the things you’re talking about here. I don’t do eye contact, I don’t do small talk, I don’t do people in general. Especially strangers. I do everything in the most routine way possible, with almost no variance in my schedule. Eat at this time. Watch TV only during these hours. Work at my computer during specific hours. No changes. Every shirt that I own has "Disney" on it - I feel uncomfortable wearing a non-Disney shirt. My interests are beyond obsessive. I own about 12,000 CDs and 2,000 LPs. If I like a singer, I own EVERY song that singer has ever recorded. My collection is also meticulously organized, sorted alphabetically by the artist’s name and then chronologically by year of release for each recording by that artist. I also spend up to a month each year at Walt Disney World. It feels like home to me, and I’d rather go back there again and again than go someplace new. It helps that our son lives in Orlando and works for Disney, of course, but we bought the Disney version of a timeshare so we could go there multiple times per year. But I’m not obsessed or anything! 😉 Anyway, I’m starting to understand more and more why I do the things I do. I’ve been wondering if there’s a reason to see a doctor or psychologist about this; I don’t feel like I need to be "fixed" or anything, but are there reasons why it’s good to have a diagnosis at my age? I honestly don’t know. My biggest issue right now is that I’m battling a neurological disease that causes me to need to sleep a lot - I mean, a LOT, like 16 hours a day some days - and I get very out-of-sorts when my routine is disturbed.

No one wanted to play with my son.. so I got a 4 foot pool when he was 9 years old. We had the first above ground pool, in the neighborhood. Suddenly, he had the boys in the neighborhood, wanting to be his friend. This is how my son, developed social skills and working out relationship issues. The doctor told me, he could turn out to be a social path, if he didn't develop socialization skills. He's doing very well now. He has his own trucking business, since he was 28 years old. I feel the object relationships so much! I had the hardest time throwing out toothbrushes and things for years, but then I found a hack that works pretty well: I use my poor object permanence to my advantage, and have a kind of "staging area" box into which I throw all the things I probably *should* get rid of but am not emotionally ready to part with yet. Every few months I'll go through the box and get rid of anything I've been able to move on from. It's comforting to know that if I can't move on from something, it's still there for me, but often when it's been in the closet for a few months I'm fine letting it go. It also helps me when I know I'm not just throwing something in the trash--so old toothbrushes become cleaning toothbrushes, old clothes get donated, etc. Then at least I'm not just discarding my buddy like they're complete trash--they get to go have more adventures somewhere else. ;)

I can however read people socially quite quickly because of having a traumatic childhood. You become quick at reading people's emotions when your personal safety has been at stake. I rock from one foot to another when I have stand in one place for long periods of time. I rock for to save my feet from being sore than to stimulate myself though. I quite have some elements of this, and I was always different than majority, as well as with my friends who display some of these characteristics. What it's important is that this is not a disorder, but rather a different brain function, which means you're not weird, not twisted, not dumb and that you're SPECIAL AND UNIQUE JUST THE WAY YOU'RE! DON'T BE ASHAMED OF WHAT YOU'RE, BUT SEE YOURSELF AS A GIFT TO THIS MONOTONIC WORLD! ❤️

I'm not sure if I have autism but I have a few of these things. I really love my routine. I have sensory issues. I sometimes can be loud. I don't always get jokes. I also get focused on one thing. It fluctuates but when I'm into something I am really into it. Thank you for going into these aspects of autism. I know I have ADHD so I am not sure what characteristics are that.

I'm a 70-year-old woman now, and it's really only been within the last several years that I've come to suspect why I'm so different from the other people around me. I'm completely socially clueless and always have been. Luckily, I found a career in medical transcription and worked at home having only minimal contact with other people. These day's, I can indulge in my preference to avoid socializing altogether and indulge in my consuming interests. It's such a relief. Eye contact is a big one. I can make eye contact briefly, but it's like restless legs; the longer I try to hold it, the more uncomfortable I become. My gaze slips away after a second or two no matter what.

My adopted Navajo family loves me and I them for this reason. They believe it rude to look someone in the eyes. It is a violation of personal space. They understand me and my connection to the spiritual world and call on me in times of need and I am honored to be a part of their world and culture and I NEVER have an opinion unless asked. They claim I speak their language but although I seem to understand the Dine' bizaad language, I do not and never have claimed to speak it. My closest Black friends are the same way although they don't realize it, that I am not opinionated. I listen and through that, gain their trust. You can't have a better friend than that of a Black person once you cross that boundary. Sorry. That's one of my things is talking in tangents.

I like this video and have done some research into autism, which helped somewhat, but your hands-on explanation is just great because it's not about diagnosis, it's about what it feels like, and hat makes it relatable. My 19 year old daughter is an aspie and with you saying about turning your obsession into a career, she’s totally obsessed with parrots. There’s nothing she doesn’t know about them 😊 she has her own blue and gold macaw and she’s currently in her 3rd year of college doing animal management, of which she’s attained a distinction in all of her previous exams and will be going to university in 2025 to study veterinary medicine and she aspires to become a specialised avian veterinary surgeon. To say I’m proud of her is an understatement. I’m watching your videos to learn more about Aspergers, so I can be more supportive of her. Thank you for doing these videos, as my daughter was diagnosed and we were just left to get on with it….no support from anyone!! ❤

As a child and teen-Asperger’s was not a diagnosis(I am older) and people thought I was SO disrespectful, and I was reprimanded repeatedly by teachers and authority figures for never making eye contact-to the point where as an older child I developed a major fear (that I have to this day) of not making eye contact due to still being reprimanded or yelled at. But if I feel comfortable around someone-I find myself avoiding eye contact if I am talking about something I am passionate or knowledgeable about. Otherwise, I am scared to not make intense eye contact as is also true for my 27 year old Aspie son who had similar experiences with teachers etc. Sone Aspies make too much eye contact because they have memorized the social strategy, but we get it wrong and get too intense, and then we get in trouble for screwing up the eye contact🙄. As far as stimming-I sway all the time. I also have super obsessive interests and always have. I also get freaked out by the disruption in routine as do all my kids, nephew and niece, sister, and parents. I am crap at social cues and understanding and avoid people if possible, but I have always had to be social due to my jobs and career. But it stresses me out because I have to obsess about how much I screwed up every interaction. I am so BAD with socializing, and my sensory issues make everything worse. too, OMG-I totally understand the voice volume since I got in trouble at work so many times- and this is true for physical gesture or action intensity. My coworkers said I TYPED too loudly. I cannot understand jokes most of the time. Thank you for posting this video-if I keep on commenting on everything you have said-I will sound like a parrot 🦜 -but yeah-everything you said is so spot on! Thanks so much for posting these videos👍💜

Thank you for your time and effort in this video to help others. I have a family member who has never been diagnosed clinically with Aspergers, but I suspected for many years that perhaps he does indeed have Aspergers. For many of his years as a child, I did not know why he had the behaviors he had, and it broke my heart. I had no idea how to help him, or even understand him. School was miserable for him, he had no friends and he seemed so lonely. For many years now, I have tried very hard to work within his behaviors to make a positive change and I believe I have helped him some. He accepts that Aspergers is probably part of who he is, and that in itself has helped him. Educating people on the various conditions that exist, weather it be Aspergers, Bi-Polar, BPD, or a number of others is so awesome and I commend you for your contribution. Keep goin strong! ....(By the way, to answer your question, I am on a computer)

When I make eye-contact too long - it makes me want to cry; it’s like I can feel all the pain, that person has inside of them. Which, ended up being a superpower, when I partook in cognitive behavioral therapy trainings and coached one of them, when we did the eye-gazing exercise; which, I was amazing at being able to evoke emotions out of those who had a wall up and wouldn’t crack (it’s all about doing shadow work) - because my crying was a form of empathy that would trigger them to go deeper in themselves.

I’m watching from Oklahoma. My husband is 37 and has Asperger’s and it’s extremely obvious. When he was a child people came in to observe him. Most the time he catches a hard time from people. They all think he hates them and it’s just simply not the case. He keeps to himself to avoid all the problems it’s brought him. When he was younger people would try to fight him over it. It breaks my heart. He’s incredibly gifted at playing bass. He’s so gifted and genius that he also catches a lot of jealousy from people. He does struggle with keeping eye contact even with me. He doesn’t rock back and forth, he’s obsessed with music and the bands that make the music and football. He knows a lot about most all players and where they went to college and such. He’s definitely got his order he does every single day. He’s very socially awkward and that’s what’s caused him so many fights and such. He gets upset and irritated fairly easily over the things others do. He’s got a very deep voice and is extremely loud. Haha the thing is he’s probably the funniest person I’ve ever met and jokes all the time. The best part of our marriage is that we joke with each other constantly. However he does get irritated at certain people and their jokes often. He doesn’t have social anxiety he does fine around others but he refuses to go out unless he has to. I don’t drive cause I don’t see well enough anymore so he has to drive me so it’s safe to say I hardly ever leave the house. Honestly when it comes to sensory issues he refuses to have any of his food on his plate to touch. Haha. Ps that wasn’t a terrible drumroll, well the first one was but the second one wasn’t. My husband and I play music together. I sing, play piano and drums and he does guitar, bass and writes the lyrics to our songs. Together we are a band and it’s the greatest thing ever! I love my autistic husband with all my heart and want to protect all people with autism. They are a gift to us.

What blows me away is how much of what you describe applies to me and my ADHD diagnosis - no wonder people so often struggle to figure out which diagnosis to apply. Listening to you speak is strangely calming - you speak at 100 miles and hour, shoving as many thoughts as possible into a limited time-slot and it sounds EXACTLY like my brain. Kind of feels like sympathetic resonance in the grey cells. 😁 Thanks a mil for the great content.

I've taught myself eye contact. As for social situations, because I have a horse who's been boarded at various barns, I've had no choice but to be around people and not look like I'm conceited. Instead, I find people who have great communication skills and watch them, and mimic them. I was happy he mentioned the rocking. I'll sit on my bed and rock all the time while just watching TV. When just sitting, like watching this video, I shake one or both of my legs. I have driven people nuts with this one if they are on a sofa with me or in the car, etc. I have a glider rocker I bought for when I watch TV in my office. I'm obsessed with learning everything about horses. I did the same with cats and have several award-winning books on the subject. I've started KZbin channels on both cats and horses. Drives people nuts!

Direct eye contact for me is a really intimate thing. I can do it really small bursts for people I don't know super well, but it is half a second, not much longer. I tend to look behind or beyond people when I speak to them to try and compensate. Edit: Also, I hate small talk. I wish I could grasp why it is people feel the need to speak when it doesn't have substance.

I’ve always been rather loud. Though, as I got older - I thought it was because I’ve been to too many heavy metal shows, without earplugs. Thankfully, it’s only Asperger’s (though, I’ve still learned my lesson, regarding wearing earplugs, at heavy shows). I am EXACTLY the same, regarding clothes. I always wear black, though, I don’t like t-shirts, they’re too tight around my neck; which, being into music/metal, gets frustrating - because I can’t wear various band shirts, who I love/want to support. I ALWAYS wear black, though, will wear a kimono-style wrap, over it - however, only specific type of patterns and colors. I only wear specific type of jewelry and only do my hair and make-up in specific ways. I typically will have a two handfuls of rings, ‘cause the weight on my fingers, supports me in focusing. I also, will carry a joint in my hand/mouth, if I’m not wearing rings, to support focusing. Also, people always think I’m being rude, because I tend to wear my sunglasses in doors, typically. No, light hurts my eyes and causes me to squint; then, the tension hurts my head. That’s why I typically only have candles and a small salt lamp, for light in my room. Also, I can handle loud - hello, metal-head.. However, I CANNOT handle higher-pitched singing. It drives me INSANE, unless it’s balanced out with more gruff vocals. The heavier, more cookie-monster sounding - the better. Interesting enough, the slower the song - the more anxious it makes me. For some reason, rock and metal seems to calm me down and supports me in focusing, when attempting to get physical chores done.

I was diagnosed with Asperger's about 10 years ago, and I can definitely relate to most of those things. Especially the social anxiety and sensory issues. I have unusual eating habits, by that I mean I am an extremely picky eater. I know I have obsessive interests and am always looking at the ground when I walk in public.
@dfuher968 Жыл бұрын
Absolutely, I check most of these boxes too. 1 of them being the sensory issues, like I can be going out of my mind due to the neighbor mowing the lawn, and the rest of my family barely noticed the lawnmover going. But I love u being an extremely picky eater, coz I am too! Far too often, ppl including many Aspies think of sensory issues being mostly about sound and light. But I have always been very picky with my food, so much that Ive been really mocked about it through my life, and especially as a child it was really difficult, coz no1 believed me, they always just assumed, it was some kid's idea, I just needed to eat my food and that was that. At least after the time, when I was about 4 and refusing to eat liver, my family stopped trying to make me eat something, I didnt want to. What convinced them was, that my mum tried to trick me by cutting the liver into little pieces and put them in a stew with similar looking pieces of meat, figuring I couldnt tell the difference between the meat and the liver, especially through the taste of the sauce. When I had finished eating, all of the little pieces of liver were lining the edge of my plate. But Ive found, that Im actually not more picky than the average person, its just that the things, I dislike, are quite common things, like butter, salat dressing, fat on meats and such. Plus, I dont just dislike those things, I get physically ill trying to eat them. If I get butter in my mouth, I immidiately feel like throwing up. As a kid, I stopped eating butter, as soon as I was old enough to refuse, but while my family accepted it, every1 else did not. I had to start claiming, I was allergic to butter for them to stop telling me, I was just imagining it, or claiming that they could just scrape most of the butter off the b-day bun and put plenty of jam on top, and I would never taste it.... absolutely I would taste it! Even as an adult, I still use the allergic excuse, coz if I tell any1, I really dont like butter, they will inveritably start arguing with me about, how Im wrong, ofc I like butter, coz every1 likes butter. So friggin annoying. I didnt get the Aspergers diagnosis, until I was in my early 40s, but it was such a relief. Suddenly, so many things just made sense.

Hey man, I really appreciate and get a lot from your videos. I've suffered with Asperger's all my life, of course, but it was only diagnosed relatively recently, and I'm 55. To say the least it hasn't been a fun life. And I'm speaking to you from Oklahoma, since you pinned a request for location. I also wanted to just say, that my obsessive interest is similar to yours, and I do have a strong side interest in a link conspiracy such as you our focused on, but my primary focus starts with what people call Bigfoot or Sasquatch, probably because I seen one twice, probably not the same one, and my mother saw one about 10 years before she passed and feared them for the rest of her life. I say primary focus because your branches out into, I guess what you would call every aspect of reality. As it really is a paradigm shift, the way you view the world. So if this can exist, cannot be part a public knowledge, the next question is what else exists. There's a great book called The Locals by Thom Powell that is particularly good, and highlights across over between your interests and mine. And this is also something that's been talked about more and more on social media as well. The best of the social media by the way, regarding the subject, is not the places that focus on research or pseudo research as far as I'm concerned, but the ones that are designed to create a safe space for people to share, what is often a very traumatic experience, and for others to listen that had similar experiences, and gain some therapeutic benefit, as well as people who simply want to understand the subject more. Anyway, I know this is an old video I'm commenting on, so I'm not sure if you'll take the opportunity to read it, but I thought I'd give you the shout anyway. Take care, what you do really matters, to me, and I'm sure many many others.

I completely get what your saying about the eye contact. It’s a very intimate act that makes a person feel vulnerable and exposed. Personally, I’ve noticed that it largely depends on whom I’m interacting with. If there’s trust, respect, and a sense of safety then eye contact is easy as long as I’m not in deep thought/discussion which then I need to stare off in order to be able to focus and articulate myself lol. As for stimmimg, I’m surprised you didn’t mention leg bouncing. Am I the only one that constantly bounces her foot/leg? It drives people nuts lol I always thought it was ADHD related 🤷🏼♀️
