Crane de caillou No doubt he was special Cesare being charismatic, ruthless and a bit eccentric. But explain how he was a military genius? He really doesn’t have many achievements to speak of. I think he was overrated at the time as his dad was pope and gave him endless resources, not to mention Alexander created the perfect PR machine, overhyping him and over-bloating his achievements on the battlefield as he always had a much larger force. He was able to afford 2000 Swiss mercenary and had the French giving him thousands of troops, vastly adding to the numerical advantage he already had with the papal army to go out and conquer the Romagna. Cesare was split 50/50, he was special; knew how to lead men but also was insane, and a malignant sociopath.

There's a chance his look might have been inspired off Jesus Christ. There was a theory about Pope Alexander VI (Rodrigo, Cesare's father) wanting Jesus' depiction to be based off Cesare, so he apparently comissioned paintings of Jesus where he'd look like Cesare and make sure that depiction is the popular one. At first glance they do look similar, but they do have a number of differences (Cesare having black hair instead of brown). That, alongside the fact that the popular western depiction of Jesus has been a thing before Cesare was ever born does disprove this theory.

They weren't Italians. Cesar was leading the soldiers of the kingdom Navarra (an European kingdom, nowadays part of Spain) against the rebels during a civil war. It's a complicated subject, as there were many alliances. Ezio didn't side with any of them, so it's understandable that they would attack him. So the red soldiers were Navarrese soldiers and and the ones with green/yellow clothes were Navarrese rebels, probably with the help of Castille or Aragon.

This Sequence was so rushed as hell, and is the only issue I have with AC2B. Ezio fast travels to different locations in pursuit of Cesare, then an underwhelming stage against his men. It would've been great if Cesare taunts Ezio, and the rest of the Brotherhood comes in to aid Ezio. It's a callback to the trailer too. Ezio tries to rush at Cesare, but the gate closes down separating them. Finally, Fabio Orsini arrests Cesare. It didn't make sense that Ezio could use the Apple with his comrades with him. They didn't even show what Ezio saw in the Apple, and how he figured out where Cesare is going and what Cesare meant. The next thing you know, you're in Viana for Sequence 9. Finally, Cesare's final battle was SO underwhelming. There are no chase sequence, parkour, basically everything you've learned in the game. It would've been great if Ezio literally chases Cesare on the walls, not just parkouring past the city then fight Cesare. Then, fighting Cesare itself was just button mashing and counterkills. Cesare's fate was fitting, but the entirety of Sequence 9 preceded by the boring Sequence 8 was so disappointing, that the infiltration of the Vatican was so, SO MUCH BETTER. I suppose they really were eager to kill off Kirsten Bell's character so they won't be giving her royalties, and it shows.
